Fifty years ago today, just after midnight, at 1:30 in the morning on June 28, 1969, New York City police officers raided a gay- and trans-friendly bar called the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. As the police began dragging some of the patrons out, the community fought back, sparking three days of rioting. Their historic resistance launched the modern-day LGBTQ movement and became known as the Stonewall uprising. We hear the leaders of the Stonewall uprising in their own words, in a radio documentary produced by Dave Isay in 1989 called “Remembering Stonewall.”

I'm not surprised that many of the comments here are anti-LGBTQ. And it's the same 3 people posting multiple comments. I do wonder though, why so many "straight" people, usually men, are so hung up on what other people do in their private lives? Maybe y'all could do with some counseling to figure out WHY you are so fixated on this.

That's what religious indoctrination, school and the military does to you. Good thing it changed so much in the last 50 years. I only wish LGBT wouldn't now try to overreach and try to make my Asassins Creed full of gay lesbian people. I want my games to look a bit more realistic if they play in thenpast, even if they are a fantasy.

@Marshall Kinnaird Our "civilization" is being destroyed in the WH. No one asks or tells you to like something. But to accept the rights of all, would be an American thing. If America still exists. I don't like the millions of hypocritical christians, but they, too, have a right to exist. Your Freedom of Religion should never affect My Freedom From Your Religion

i was watching a video of a gay wedding in Egypt. two men one in a white dress with a semi beard & facial makeup the other in a tuxedo, it was in the house & behind a fenced in backyard. i can see people walking by pointing laughing & shaking their heads but they weren't violent, cursing or yelling at the gay couple or the attendees (about 50 ppl). however they made a big mistake by coming out the house & dancing in the middle of the street. it took about 15 mins and the neighbourhood's patients ran out, the couple & others were beat up not badly no one died, walking away from the scuffle, it broke up fast & lasted 5 mins. when the police came i was shocked, they arrested the couple for public disturbance.

Back then everything bad was just labelled "communist" by the American right. Just as they now label anything they don't like "socialism". Mitch McConnell even called statehood for DC and Puerto Rico "socialism".

God bless our pioneers; they are the stone wall of our culture, our identity, we are more woke thanks to technology, we are no longer blindsided by society. We have so much to be proud of, PRIDE is something we need to wear In our identity with confidence. We have come a long way lest not forget about Hitler and how we, my people, my community, my identity were treated “medical experiments”. More then ever lest not stand divided “LGBTQ+” but United together, strong building each other up for who we are a rainbow of hope in the sky. -Jose Estrada. 💪🌈💪

I am proud of the men & women who stood up for themselves. But I have to question the courage or the lack of courage to stand up for the black community. But this goes beyond black and white. Where is the courage to stand up for us all, as the so called politicians & law enforcement. Continue to wreak havoc on us all. This is why I state over and over that non violence is not a true moral character. When the oppressors use it chart Blanche. And have successfully used it to oppress the many. We must do violence upon the tyrants. And we must have courage to view all humans as one race. We must force the right to feel the devastation that they enforce on us all. Stonewall is a prime example of how righteous violence, can change the mindset, and behavior of those who would be master's and dictators. For SUCH have been the monsterous criminals in our mist.
