The purpose of schoolteaching is not actually to teach lgbtq history, political history science math or anything else. The only function of a schoolteacher is to make himself redundant. His purpose is solely to teach children not his subject, but *how to learn* his subject, so that by the time children leave school they can learn stuff for themselves, and make decisions about things like gay rights for themselves.

This is such a beautiful and important video. The lived experiences of those who lived through the uprising and the AIDS epidemic are wisdoms that younger LGBTQ+ generations need to digest, uphold, and protect. Immense kudos to NYU for not only keeping this history alive, but not being intimidated to highlight it.

Under the LGBTQ+ CULT, being GAY is a choice, just like the WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH believed. The Trans-Supremacists have stated clearly that if you are a MAN who only wants to have sex with MEN, or a PERSON WHO MENSTRUATES who only wants to have sex with PEOPLE WHO MENSTRUATE (WOMEN have been erased by the TRANS-GESTAPO) it's not because you're gay, it's because you're a GENITAL FETISHIST. Under the LGBTQ+ CULT, little boys who like other boys aren't GAY, they are a MISTAKE. They are LITTLE GIRLS trapped in LITTLE BOYS' BODIES, and the Trans-Supremacists will seek out your GAY CHILDREN, pump them full of toxic puberty blockers, mutilate their genitals, and sterilize them until they have converted them into STRAIGHT TRANS-KIDS.

The sad irony of this comment is that around the time that it was posted a Stonewall VET was assaulted at a pride event. His sign was stolen and he was knocked to the ground by a bunch of 'trans kids'. THIS is the respect the elders are being shown by the new emboldened youth. Assaulting the very people that fought for the right to be Gay Lesbian Bisexual Trans Queer and more!!! The current LGBTQIA+ Community should be ashamed of themselves and I pray that the TRUTH WILL OUT in the end 😢

lol. Did you even watch the video? None of these people "lived through the uprising." Most were nowhere near the event. Only one guy might have been there, although he seems vague on exactly where he was, and there's no mention of him in David Carter's extensive historical treatment of the riot.

What a wonderful account of those who were part of the Stonewall Uprising.I attended the Gay Pride Parade in 1999 on the 30th anniversary of the uprising. and watched the parade standing in front of the Stonewall. I was glad to see the bar restored and made sure I went inside to have a drink. I felt the aura of the history that occurred within those walls in 2009. I;m glad that it's now a National Monument. The same think should happen in San Francisco at the site of Harvey Milk's csmera shop in the Castro. i'm glad to see that there are young people ready to take up the struggle for the trans persons and others who are discriminated against. Go Pride !

At best, only 1 of the people in this video "were part of the Stonewall uprising." And it's not even clear where he was or what he was doing.

Having autism and being gay are the same for me. I can stop being gay as much as I can stop being autistic. We’ve come a long way since stonewall, but we must continue the fight. This documentary was absolutely encouraging!

I think when general, not LGBT people think of LGBT people, they think of drag queens and pride parades, and gay couples. But what they never hear about, what I never heard about until recently, is that the path to where we are today was paved in blood. It was paved in suffering, and pain, and homelessness, and social ostricisation, and anger and fear. And I think we need to talk more about what the community had to go through to get here for people to truly understand the weight of what sexual identity and gender identity truly means, why it's important, and therefore drive home why these human rights need to be protected.

I'm glad we got to hear from some brown and black people towards the end, but it would have been nice to hear a first-hand account from a black or brown person. Before you discredit my valid concern as merely a complaint, compare how much time each white person got to speak with how much time each brown and black person got to speak.

We're talking about the Stonewall Riots, which was fought prominently by trans people and gays of color. Take your misogynistic, transphobic, white-supremacist a$$ and try to sling your revisionist $hit somewhere else.

I came out as bisexual at age 31 before I had a feeling I was but I didn't want to admit it. I was worried about the reaction i,d get living in the south. I came up to mn in 2008 to be with my current relationship. In 2011 I finally got to say I'm bisexual and feel comfortable with it.

Though very informative,. I was surprised that the match that started the movement was not mentioned at all. The fact is that Judy Garland had just died, and the gay community was trying to comfort each other, and the cops rated Stonewall nightclub.... And it was a matter of STOP F'n with us.

A 28-minute "Stonewall documentary" which presents a few people, all but two of whom were not anywhere near Stonewall, and in which the discussion of the riot ends after 4 minutes.

I am trying to learn more about stonewall and lgbt history because it’s not something that’s ever taught In schools or anywhere. Im also here after the overturning of roe v wade because there are fears that they’ll go after lgbt rights next.

I attended NYU in 1971. I took German for my language. The professor, whose name slips my mind, held a Xmas party at his apartment near campus. German majors & other professors where there. Some freshmen were asked to pick records for a turntable in the next room. Between the records were a few gay porno mags.. I dropped out the next semester. My own sexuality was just one of various factors. I soon learned that some professors found new posts elsewhere. This I learn, meeting a professor at a gay bar. He was then teaching for City of New York University at Queens College. About this same time, there was a major construction for Gothe House at NYU. When I applied to return to NYU a decade later, I was asked why I left. I admitted to my sexual confusion at that time & that I was gay. The interviewer said it would be best not to discuss that topic on campus.
