Here's a quick way that I've found to easily remove red loc-tite. CRC Brakleen has something in it that eats it away making bolts easy to remove. Get CRC Brakleen Here: amzn.to/3Coh1LP
New Orange Loc-Tite: amzn.to/3zB6rz8

Chlorinated are not necessarily toxic, some are some aren't, its a big category. But many(again not all) chlorine containing molecules are bad for the ozone layer to varying degrees which is why products tend to advertise non-chlorinated. They sure do work the best for certain applications though.

Acetone did not work for me even after an overnight soak. Steel bolt into a threaded Aluminum rod. About to try brake cleaner but I’m not too hopeful. LOCTITE website states 250°C (550°F) heat needed for red, as there’s very little surface area for the solvent to reach the cured LOCTITE. If heat is what it takes, then I’m using a heat gun on HIGH (and not an open flame).

I have a problem with a screw in a plastic-disc which I secured with this blue middle-hard locktight. Now I have to remove the screw but it sits in there like glued for eternity. I cant grap the bottom because its too flat and so if I turn the screw the bottom turns with it. Any Idea? I cant use much heat eighter, cause it will melt the plastic-part the screw sits in.

I have a Heritage Rough Rider and one of my dad's friend happens to have the most experience with handling firearms so I took to him to ask for assistance in applying Loctite to the little screws the hold together my handgun. However, he is growing advance in age and he didn't have his glasses so he applied the Loctite to the spring which houses the locking mechanism which locks the rod which holds the cylinder in place because it looked like an "oddly loose screw ya got here." I want to purchase another cylinder but I cannot until the Loctite is removed somehow and I don't want to pay my local gunsmith $60 to fix it when I could potentially remedy the spring in question myself. My question: Would that the CRC Brekleen be able to work in the spring, if you have any knowledge in the realm of firearms? Thank you.

@@justin1563 No, the whole reason brakekleen exists is to rinse all residues from the surface of a brake, soap does not. Any oil with prevent locktite from properly activating and adhering brakleen is the perfect thing to use before threadlockers just give it a few minutes to evaporate.

Brakleen evaporates extremely quickly so leaving it to soak is about useless... spray it heavy wait just a few minutes until its about evaporated then spray again tap lightly with a hammer to cause vibrations so that product works its self in deeper into the threads then remove fastener takes 5 to 10 minutes total soaking is a waste of time

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner doesn't work. I already had some CRC non-chlorinated, in the green can, so sprayed a good amount on threads from both ends about 12 times over a three hour stretch. The part is still solid. So I'll try the chlorinated tomorrow. And people should wear safety glasses, but not plastic reading glasses. Thanks Adrian, good to know how to avoid using heat. .......The auto parts store didn't have any chlorinated, and said it's being phased out of production. So online they found KANO Aerokroil in an orange spray can. Expensive at $22. I'm not sure if it worked. I applied it 6 times, letting it soak different lengths of time from many hours to one hour. 4 times, while trying to turn the threaded part, I applied about 120° F from a heat gun on low. It finally came loose for some turning distance, so I applied maybe 160° F and the part turned off fairly easy. The Areokroil night be the reason the red Locktite turned to a brittle plastic that was easy to remove. Again, I'm not sure if the heat neutralized the Locktite or the Areokroil or both.

Does it clean the red Loctite off the bolt?

When I used it it didn't clean it right off, but it made it super soft. You could wipe it off with a shop rag.

I was hopeful this would work for sight removal on a Bul Armory 1911. Nope. The search goes on.

@@mariasantana6861 how would that damage the finishing on the barrel? Most of the gun can handle heat like a torch for a short amount of time. It's not suggested but when you have a small torch flame it works perfect
