This happened to be a Dewalt pressure washer. I'm guessing others are similar, as it is a very common pump used on many different pressure washers.

This video helped so much. I have a honda gx390 with general pump ez4040 and it was acting up so in a hurry a bought another pump. The original pump would not come off. I sprayed lots of penetrating oil and pryed it but nothing. put the bolts in the two holes and piece of metal between them and the engine and finally it popped free. Took two hours! I sanded all the rust off of the shaft and smeared a bunch of neverseze on it and put new pump on.

I spray herbicide, just last week, water got inside the motor and well from there it goes to the pump as well. Right now I’m stuck in this stage. I drain the pump oil and was able to see the motor key and spray w-40 from there. Hopefully tomorrow I can come out smooth. Th sis for video again

I've got a 3 GPM CAT pump that is seized on the shaft. I don't really need it since I've got a much better wash rig; I thought as a side project I'd "just pull that old pump off and put a new one on there" That was 2 years ago and the pump still hasn't budged. No set screw, put penetrant on the shaft where it comes out of the engine, put 2 bolts in the threaded holes and tightened them down 1/4 turn each until they were about as tight as I wanted to get them. I then put a puller on the end of the shaft and hooked it around the edge of the pump house and tightened it down to about as tight as I wanted to get it. I even heated the shaft and tapped on the pump with a hammer to try to break the rust loose. No luck after trying for the fourth time in 2 years. I think someone might have used lock tight on the thing. I'm thinking of cutting the pump body in half with my reciprocating saw and cutting a grove in the seized part of the shaft to split it and peel it off.

Any luck with it? I've got an Udor on my GX390 that I can't get off. Just bought the pressure washer, tore most of it apart to clean/paint/tune up and reinstall it on the cart. Noticed an oil leak at the gearbox where it attaches to the output shaft, cleaned it up and it's confirmed to be leaking from there. So, bad seal I'm sure. But, days and days of penetrating oil still won't allow it to budge even using large pry bars.
@Scott.Farkus2 жыл бұрын
@@billyo31989 Left it with penetrating oil on it for a week, then put 1/4" pieces of flat bar between the pump and the bolts, tightened the bolts down about a 1/4 turn each swapping sides as I went. Finally ended up breaking out a big chunk of the pump body on one side. Pump never budged. It spun a bearing on one of the 3 pistons that produce the pressure, it may have seized it's self to the shaft. Either that or CAT has a secret method of removing their pumps. I'm either going to search for a "How to remove 25 year old pump" video or chuck up a metal cutting blade in the old reciprocating saw.
@billyo319892 жыл бұрын
@@Scott.Farkus damn, that stinks. I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I'm kind of worried to use this commercially if I don't have the ability to swap pumps out on the fly--I've got an extra Canpump as a spare. Which is just an expensive paperweight until I can separate the two from each other 🙄 good luck with your endeavor!
@Scott.Farkus2 жыл бұрын
@@billyo31989 I'll just cut the pump off and throw a new one on there, keep it in the garage to wash the driveway without having to pull out my wash trailer. BTW, if you can get the old pump off, put some anti-seize on the shaft before you put the new one on, that way it'll come back off easily if you ever need to remove it.

@@gusDSM1 I took a closer look at my pump and realized it is not cost effective to rebuild the pump. I would need 3 seal kits including seal retainers ( kit 166), 3 ceramic plungers and their nuts, 8 head bolts, and 2 valves. The previous owner took the pump apart and misplaced quite a few pieces. Anyway I gave up on the idea of rebuild the pump. Thank for your reply by the way.

Thank you for making this video. I have exactly this problem. I just took the four main bolts out, the pump swivels. I have stuck a big screw driver in and tap it with a hammer. And finally for once in my life, I quit while I was ahead. I had no idea about the set screw or the potential shaft issues. So, I will go back out and see what I can do now!

I tried all of this and was too worried about prying against the motor or threading a bolt into the engine casing. Couldn’t get a piece of steel in to block the hole. My pump had threaded holes all over the place. On the flange and on the pump crankcase too. I attached a loop of chain with bolts symmetrically on the pump and used a slide hammer to gently tap it off. Lots of penetrating oil before and throughout. The vibration helps the penetrating oil. Hopefully this helps someone if the procedure in this video doesn’t work.

What if the screw on the shaft brakes and you can't get it out?
@samishsawworks58709 ай бұрын
Are you talking about the set screw? Is it broken or is the Allen head on it stripped out? If the allen head is just stripped you could try and use an "easy out" to get it or if it were me, I'd just drill the set screw out with a drill bit then drill and tap the hole for the next size up and use a new screw upon reassembly. If I remember correctly, the set screw tightens down on the key stock not the shaft (It's been a long time), but I think you could run it with no set screw without issue if you drilled it out, but didn't have a tap for a new screw.

What size was the set screw?
@samishsawworks58703 жыл бұрын
I don't recall what Allen size or thread pitch, I should have thought to include that info. I'm almost positive it was a metric Allen that's needed. Dewalt part number is 5140098-16 I believe, but I can't find much info.

You're taking about the set screw in the shaft correct? Not to sound too "simple" about it, but did you pull/roll the engine through its full cycle while looking with a flashlight through that access hole or somewhere there abouts? If there's not one there I'm not sure what to say. I've only experienced them with a set screw in the shaft.
