Removing a Stuck Brake Drum on a 78 Chevy K20

Took a lot of convincing to get this brake drum off. The old Chevy K20 truck has been sitting for over 15 years and it surely shows. It didn't get its name Rusty for nothing! We trying beating it, cutting it and many other was to eventually get this off, found that a pry bar and a hammer worked best to work around the edges. Everything with the brakes will be rebuilt on this vehicle so I wasn't concerned with damaging anything.

Thanks for the video. I have a 1976 F250 4x4 Highboy with the same problem. The self adjusters were rusted solid and the shoes are rusted solid to the drum. I’ve unbolted the wheel cylinders and cut the retainer pins and I still haven’t been able to get mine off. I’m going to have a neighbor bring over his torch and cut them off. The truck has been sitting in a field in northern Minnesota since 1989. Good news is it actually runs.

Hey you should have un tighten the brake ten at the bottom plus it take 2 buts,50 lbs,the 175 lbs on the 2nd one

You did not have to cut that high dollar hub.The brakes were just to tight. And yes remove the music.

We couldn’t loosen the brakes, it was rusted and seized up after sitting in mud for the past 25 years

If there had been enough space to pull that axle out I would have called BS and stopped watching. There is NEVER enough room.

Jesus do we really need to watch you unscrew rings the whole time. Helpful video but definitely too much unnecessary running footage that could be clipped. I fell I could have my part off by the time this video is over haha.

Thanks for your opinion, I’ll keep that in mind for the next video. I fought that thing forever lol the truck was sitting in a field for years and was all rusted up

Your first step is to back the self adjuster off all of the way and your drum will come right off. You could have saved yourself a lot off time and money if you had done it right. Making videos when you don't know what you are doing doesn't help anyone.

I couldn’t get it to budge, I even tried backing it off after I got it off of the truck and couldn’t get it to spin. I think it was just so rusted up that it wasn’t spinning.
