Crazy how much form can vary even after reaching such a high level of strength. Jared's looks the best by far in every movement, ROM, mobility, everything looks amazing

I doubt he does them that strict all the time. in order to do them with that dead ass form and bringing the bar all the way down to your nipples you have to drop the weight considerably. it will give you a good burn but don't expect to put much muscle on your back unless your are going heavy at least half of the time. look at dr mikes back. its huge, and he probably did loose ass pulldowns for most of his lifting career before jared over corrected him, assuming it wasn't staged which it probably was.

Mikes explanation of his calf training philosophy in the first 5 minutes is exactly what John Meadows talks about. If you want to bring your calf’s up , do them first, do them as soon as you are recovered again and emphasize the stretch with high reps.

I like to do them in a separate session at home, away from any squats or deadlifts, and no walking home from the gym. No excuses, just pure calf hell. Please kill me.

Hey Dr Mike. Fantastic video as usual! I wanted to ask if you had plans on maybe breaking down the changes made to your lat pulldowns to get the most out of the exercise. I noticed that your body had less motion as a whole, but I think there would be great benefit in breaking it down further in detail. I feel like the lat pulldown is not only one of the most common back exercises, but probably one of the exercises done less of it's full potential. Thanks!

Usually when I watch you guys Im amazed at how much weight you can move. I did 7 pull ups yesterday with 80 lbs strapped to me and I weigh 180 lbs(my PR is 9 reps). As a natural lifter that really makes me feel better about myself hah.

There always seems to be one thing that jumps out at me in every one of your videos, and in this one it's the idea and excellent analysis that lat pulldowns can function as "down sets" after pullups, since you can't lower your own body weight without cutting off a limb, which might ultimately increase, rather than decrease, the difficulty of either exercise.

Doing pulldowns like Jared has been a game changer for me. Flexing abs & not arching back or leaning back at all. Feel it 100% in lats. Nick walker does them same way.

I think about doing a pull up during a lat pull down and it stops the momentum swing to start the pull and i have a better mind/muscle conection. And during a pull up i think about doing a lat pull down and pulling from the elbows to engage the lats and not pulling from the wrist and engaging alot of bicep. Works great for me

To the pro on pull-downs! Love what you did to the Doc's technique! On yours, is there a reason you relax all the way through your Traps every time? I always thought about keeping the scapula down and not going through having to retract every rep?

Rule of thumb: even if you're the biggest guy in the gym and Jared does lat pulldowns, you watch Jared do lat pulldowns. You stop your set to watch Jared do lat pulldowns. You abandon your crush to watch Jared do his lat pulldowns.

I finish leg days with 1 set of 50 reps each: seated calf raise, standing calf raise, and tib raise with tib trainer. I do the 3 exercises based off KOTG and the high reps and stretch focus from John Meadows.

I'd be up for some 'calves from hell' training. Usually just some heavy weighted eccentrics + 1-2 second contraction will give me DOMS for a day or two, but I think if I stick with it longer eventually I might need a few more tricks. I remember reading somewhere that calves + plantaris are bigger than some other nearby muscle groups (hamstrings...). Can't neglect them!

My calves have always been in proportion but I will say that high reps with not much rest makes total sense. I use to do boxing training 4 times a week for about a year and half. That meant 4 rounds of 3 minutes of jumping rope with a 1 minute rest between rounds. I dropped over 30 lbs but my calves increased by just over a 1/2 inch and I’ve never lost the size. That was over a decade ago.

Lots of type II fibers in the calves. Much moreso than other any other muscle. Jumping rope is great.

I have good calves naturally, but they don't recover fast. Two times I was unable to walk for almost a week. If I sat down, I wouldnt be able to stand back up and had to walk on my toes for a few meters until i could flex my ankles again. I will never forget that enlightening experience.

Its Monday and Im currently walking to the gym with sore calves that I trained on Friday. Throughout the week I aim for 12-15 sets of high reps, making sure I stretch+contract for 3s, stretching between sets. Its painful but after a while you find it arousing and the results speak for themselves.
