[Tidbits & Clarifications] - Some people are confused about Rose's Bankai. It's an illusionary type, however, it seems that those illusions can affect reality as long as you believe it so. - The Battle of Renji vs Mask is nod to when Renji said the he was simply a dog barking at the stars back in the Soul Society Arc. - The aspect about Renji not knowing his Zanpaktou's True name is something we experienced in part with Yumichikia, If you recall Yumichika intentionally calls his Zanpaktou a wrong name which results in a half-released shikai. We also learned when Renji fought Byakuya that his Bankai was still immature so it was bound to improve at some point. - Renji's original Bankai name was "Hihio Zabimaru" which translates to Baboon King Snake Tail, referencing only the Baboon as the King whereas the True Name "Sōō Zabimaru" means Two Kings Snake Tail. - Many question "Why aren't the Vizards using their mask", the answer is honestly quite simple, if you think about it in most of the fights they haven't needed them. For example, Shinji was easily winning until he was straight up blindsided/caught of guard, same thing happens here, Kensei has 0 issue until Mask get a random power up, then it's too late to pull out the Hollow Mask. Same with Rose, he was winning the a sudden change of events turn the table. - Ichibei reveals here that his name given by the Soul King is Manako Osho which means "The Monk who speaks the True Name" He's also the one who created the name Bankai and Shikai, this is important because names in Bleach mean a lot, to use one's power often requires a name. So Renji's question "What are you" is very fitting - As many may comment judging by Yhwach's words, James is the real sternritter. This was confirmed by Kubo in his Klub Outside QnA's, Mask De Masculine is simply a being that's made from James ideal of a Hero, which is why no matter how often he went down James could simply bring him back, James is the Fan and as long as Fans Exist, the Hero can never fade. - Soken Ishida is interesting, he seems important enough that someone like Jugram Haschwalth knows him by name, it makes you wonder what was his position back when Shinigami and Quincy were at war. - [Sidenote: The beginning of Mask v Renji is slightly different in the manga, it's has more moments of Renji overpowering Mask.]

Rose's bankai is basically the opposite of Aizen's. His music creates illusions that physically injure those who hear them. Also, this doesn't really come through as clearly, but James was the actual Sternritter, with Mask being his idealized version of a "superstar" brought to life by his powers.

Renji Bankai breakdown. So Zabimaru(Snake Tail) is based on the Nue, which is a Japanese youkai that's kinda like a chimera which is kinda multiple animals such as Snake, Monkey, Dog and TIGER. Kinda ironic that Renji reffered to himself as a dog Barking at the stars and moon and Byakuya calls him that too in Soul Society arc. And he also has a Tiger fit now 😂. (in this case Zabimaru takes after the monkey and snake parts). It's Shikai has the body of the snake(allowing it to stretch and move like a snake) and the teeth of the monkey. When the body(snake) is destroyed, the monkey can be used in a different way via Higa Zekkou(Bite of The Broken Baboon's Fang). In his old Bankai, Hihiou Zabimaru(Baboon King Snake Tail), it was basically a larger version of his Shikai(snake body/monkey teeth). But now the snake body can come apart at will and pull itself back together via Renji's Reiatsu. The monkey can now also attack in a different way, using that same Reiatsu, Hikotsu Taihou(Baboon Bone Cannon). His new Bankai, Souou Zabimaru(Twin Kings Snake Tail), is interesting though. Both the monkey and snake are now working alongside Renji's body, instead of being fused together. Now the snake and the monkey can use their abilities to their full potential. Renji acts as the body(which would be the tiger part of the Nue), the snake(Orochi) acts as the teeth, and the monkey(Hihiou) acts as the arm. The snake gets it's own special Reiatsu-infused attack via Zaga Teppou(Snake Fang Iron Gun), and the monkey presumably gets one via Hikotsu Taihou. So basically, Renji acts as the glue to the two parts. Otherwise they would intertwine and get in the way of each other's true potential. His Shikai was supposed to be snake dominate(unless it's destroyed), and the Bankai was supposed to be both of them sharing dominance. But due to Zabimaru feeling that Renji was not worthy enough, his Bankai became monkey dominate instead.

Wow! This episode was action packed. Renji dropped in like a badass and looked sick, also hearing Rukia say how James is no match for what he is now was awesome. I always wanted to see the panel of Renji calling himself a villain and So-Oh Zabimaru be animated. I need more ASAP!

The music that played at Renji was actually an old Bleach OST from their 2nd movie Diamond Dust Rebellion. It is nice that they're bringing back some songs that you won't instantly realize it was an old Bleach OST just remix.

Rose and Kensei really were unlucky, it was almost like fighting Majin Buu there ! I think most of the other Sternritter would have been a better match to their Bankai...At least we got to see them in action ! Also that real version of Renji's Bankai really seems improved by the animation ! Pretty glorious display of power !!

I'm late to say this but I sorta defend the Vizards (in this case, Kensei and Rose) losing situation because Kubo was writing a theme of "Hero vs Villains" around Mask de Masculine. It depicts Mask as the "hero" who overpowers the soul reaper "villains" and exploits their weaknesses. James is the traditional supporting character of giving the main character, Mask, the power up (the whole premise of their Shrift). Kensei and Rose were given the basic villain role of being more powerful than the mc and explaining their powers due to confidence, respectively. Yes, Bleach is a series where many explain their powers to their enemies but in the case of this fight, the soul reapers were seen as villains especially for Rose and Renji. Its not until Renji goes into Bankai and breaks Mask's arm where the theme of hero vs villain is thrown out of the window, as stated by Mask when he said he didn't care about heroes and villains and just wanted to kill Renji. It's still stupid Rose got the short end of the stick but it works well with the theme Kubo wanted to write about.

I know Rose gets shit for saying his ability (a common trope in Shounen series) but at the same time, he definitely thought James was dead. Mask wouldn't have ruptured his eardrums had James actually died. It's a shame we don't see Rose's 3rd program though. The assumption is it would have actually killed Mask, since Ein Heldenleben translates to "A Hero's Life".
