Awesome song. It's ironic and scary to me that this song is still relevant today. KC sings even better than he did on the studio version. I need to see REO live again soon!!

Yeah they shut down class in the middle of the and brought TVs into all the senior classrooms at my high school and I watched that same helicopter lift off the Embassy roof that he mentioned at the beginning of this song. I had already. I had already enlisted. we were just waiting for my 18th birthday to happen.

Interesting how he says this song was inspired by the last helicopters lifting off from the embassy in Saigon marking the end of the Vietnam War. How does that work? The song was originally recorded and released in 1972. The events he's speaking of didn't happen until 1975. What? Is he psychic? Or just spouting BS?

Listen to the version on REO live with Gary on guitar and Greg Philbin on Bass...those two made the guys on those instruments here sound like beginners.

That because Cronin had nothing to do with writing this song. This song is ALL RICHRATH and not the same with out him. Cronin may have wrote some of the wimp rock that got them over the top but remember something, with Richrath REO ROCKED! Has REO had one big hit in all the years since Richrath departed? NO!
@zfromthez12 жыл бұрын
@personalguntrainer He doesn't say this song was inspired by the last helicopters leaving Nam. Rather he says he came to the conclusion that war doesn't work, yet here we are again.

GARY RICHRATH WROTE THIS SONG. "We" didn't write it, Kevin... What's wrong with an intro that says, "Our friend Gary Richrath wrote this song, etc."
@MsHatesHaters8 жыл бұрын
I have not heard this song in so long, EXCELLENT JOB bringing it home boys. Our blacks are dying, our cops are dying. I'm a freak and I'm dying. Look at these happy concert-goers not so long ago who have no idea that day where our Golden Country would be today. We are going into another civil war. TO ALL THIS UGLINESS WE MUST PUT AN END!!!!! Love and peace to you all.

This 100% a richrath song. I don't understand why Kevin is trying to claim credit for a song he didn't write.

Kirk La Du Kevin is a total douche bag! REO is NOT anywhere near the group they "USED TO BE" ... Now they are a cover band of the real REO
@robertbishop53577 жыл бұрын
so true. if you look up the lyrics the only song writer listed is Gary. he was soooo talented and I think incredibly underrated.

So sad that Cronin felt the (possibly justifiable) need to explain this song before they played it. Have we become such a brainwashed collection of manipulated fools that he needed to apologize before we heard this great early 70s protest song.

Dave is a good guitar player but, I don't like his interpretation of the solo for this song. Richrath played it a lot better in my opinion.

a bit weak boys. I'm sure he's a good guitarist, and does not have to be Gary. But there's a lack of feel on that guitar playing. Just pounding out chords. I guess that's why Gary will always be a standout, and always was. But good job keeping the music going - can't hate on anyone who wants to play.

@2222554 That is simply because north american culture suffers from narcissism!!! and can not see beyond their country and those who designed the cover art does not know that the South also exists...
