People who get offended are missing the point of this video. Just like winning the lottery, most people who all of a sudden have lots of cash will usually spend it all on crap and end up broke again after only a short while. In this case back into the pockets of (predominantly white) stockbrokers, therefore, not seeing the irony of the situation. There are two lessons to retain from this clip: 1. Don't expect large handouts or anything similar as it is often easy come, easy go 2. In case you receive a very large sum of money, i.e. lottery, I would suggest hiring a proper financial advisor who will assist in what to do with the money (investments, trusts, etc..depending on the amount.) and keep some on the side for yourself. I'm sure there are loads who will scoff and this but it's important:

They could probably get further reparations from higher or lower tier government sources, along with from companies that exploited by making those that worked for their wage claim they were underpaid therefore it was a form of slayyvry. Under no circumstances would the benefits of free money last very long, nor would the money be used for long term investments in themselves Ie education and the living space around them. Once the reparations gate has been opened there will be no closing. Very similar to the various (and near endless) private, state, and federal level litigation against the tobacccco companies

so if people claim reparations do the children of those that already clsim do they also get to claim reparations after. then after do grandchildren of those who already claimed do they get to claim reparations and so on. If its a one time payment then those generations that came after will start complaining that they didnt get anything.
@adminbird7 ай бұрын
Some people might complain but that wouldn’t make sense. It’d be a one time payment, though I haven’t read the platform of those pushing for it that are in power. You may recall that every freed slave was promised 40 acres and a mule upon emancipation. That land, that mule, would be the beginning of generational wealth. Hell, 40 acres where I live would be worth several million dollars if not more. Many colonists were given massive tracts of land by the government, and I’m sure you can imagine how that sort of thing could snowball into massive wealth in a few generations. Same thing with the “free labor” of having slaves - labor is and always has been on the biggest costs associated with production. The wealth accumulated by not having to pay for it is astounding. Now, the argument someone could use is reparations for Jim Crow as well, which economically disadvantaged so many people. Black people denied the GI bill after serving in war would be another thing. Reparations for slavery only would be a bargain. One of the hardest things to figure out would be how much people get depending on their lineage. If you’re half Nigerian immigrant, half African American, one half of your ancestry was enslaved and the other wasn’t. Things like that would be messy
@cowboybrooklyn7 ай бұрын
Seems logical, given that if one bought a slave, that gave them rights to the offspring of said slave in perpetuity. If slavery wasn't a one time thing, why then should reparations be?

You already get reparations in the form of welfare, affirmative action, going to college for free, and now recently in big cities allowed the ability to just walk into a store and steal up to $100.00 or so and not get arrested.

Families of union soldiers who died in the Civil War should get reparations. Families of African warlords who sold off their slaves to Atlantic slave traders should pay for reparations. White people who didn’t own slaves (most of us) shouldn’t have our tax dollars used for something we didn’t do. How do you prove you are descended from a slave when most don’t know who their daddy is? Do black men who haven’t paid a dime in child support get their reparations garnished upon payout? Would reparations minus the amount of money paid in welfare for the family since the war was over be the payout. Oops. Now you all actually owe money. Thinking reparations could even come close to working is stupid.
@francisdoherty40663 ай бұрын
Their would lawsuits shortly after by people who blew through their payment with nothing to show blaming the government for not teaching them how to save or invest. Same with high end vehicle crashes and overdoses
@tachobrenner2 ай бұрын
Ain't like introducing more guns to africa and starting an arms race between tribes and enslaving people was justified. Those slaves built America on crap conditions and literally almost never got paid. If these people had gotten money, their descendants would have been better off because of their work. But what happened? Jim Crow laws, racism, redlining (not lending diverse neighborhoods money for them to buy houses), racism in housing and giving jobs and payment, underinvestment in public schools so that one teacher had to teach 35 students and there weren't a lot of extracurriculars, the war on drugs (just look at the difference between how crack and the opium crisis were handled, clearly that was a public health crisis). This crap has an effect on people. Some are gonna make it, but many others will be disadvantaged and that is why they don't. They were shot in the foot at the start of the race and are asked why the are lagging behind. Every recession sets them back as far as white people, if not even more due to a salary that leaves no money to save which many receive.
@bigearl386710 күн бұрын
Fun fact: On April 16, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Emancipation Act into law. This act emancipated enslaved people in Washington, D.C., effectively ending their legal bondage. However, to ease the pain of slaveowners, the act included a provision that compensated loyal slaveholders up to $300 for each enslaved person freed. Yes, you read that correctly: slaveowners received reparations. Enslaved African-Americans, on the other hand, received nothing for their generations of stolen bodies, separated families, and exploited labor. Their sole gain was their release from legal enslavement.
