Great video! I was wondering if you know how to remove the engine fan? I've got a bad alternator and I'm stuck on getting the fan out without spilling coolant everywhere.

Thank you. This is great. My car started makind some grinding noises when the engines runs so I can now replace a few parts and see if it goes away. Looking at parts it seems like just replacing the pulley on the tensioner and leaving the old tensioner in place is an option. Can you say why you chose to replace the entire assembly?
@512TXSDIY

Hey Christian! It’s been a while since I did this video but it was likely because it all came together as a kit. Belt, tensioner and pulleys. It is usually cheaper when you buy the kit.

Hey 512TXS.. I hear a belt chirping noise only on a cold start/goes away after a few minutes, trying to diagnose the issue.. what necessitated the repair in this video?
@512TXSDIY
@512TXSDIY 2 жыл бұрын
That chirp is the start of a bad drive belt (i.e., serpentine belt) in my opinion. Physically look at it to see if there is wear and of course replace if needed. This is a pretty easy DIY as well if you decide to do the pulleys, belt tensioner, etc. - they sell whole kits.

I have some notes from a mechanic about what happened with my car, but they're trying to charge almost $4K to fix it. Doesn't seem right. Another mechanic told me he could fix it way cheaper but he needed a special tool to do the below job that he doesn't have. I'm trying to figure out what tool he would need. - the serpentine belt came off and broke sensors /wires under the pulley - the serpentine belt is wedged/stuck between the pulley and front timing cover - need special tools to get the pulley off to get from the timing cover - has to replace: power steering pump, sensors, belt What pulley do you think the mechanic is referring to? What special do you think is needed for this job that a non-benz mechanic wouldn't have?
@512TXSDIY
@512TXSDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. I am not sure what special tool they are referring to. The only "special tool" I can think of is the reverse Torx bit, which isn't common. I had to get mine on line.

It looks so simple and easy to access not sure why the Mercedes Benz dealership charging me 700$ to replace the belt and the belt tensioner 🙄.... I understand it's the DEALERSHIP but that's the only ones I let TOUCH my car 🤣 Prices been reasonable , but this one the first time I felt like this was a ridiculously high amount, like look how simple that looks to change and it's not like it's hard to get to which means less labor 👍 So not sure where the 700$ come from 🙄

Thank you for the comment Mrs. Rose. There are good dealers out there for sure but some simply overcharge. I do know they normally have higher operating expenses and as a result, must charge more to cover the shop. I’m happy out got fixed for you though. Great cars! If you’re buying OEM parts, that could add to the costs as well. $1,200 is crazy but it’s a luxury tax I guess. You can certainly save some money if you do it yourself. I don’t mind aftermarket parts. Except electronically components... then I’d get oem. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe if you haven’t also.
