I changed the BMS on mine and it's working perfectly.

The good thing qbout the seperate active balancer from what ive seen is that they jave a lot more ability to balance cells when they are way outta balance but then people say its best to unhook them once they have the cells top balanced. I got a couple of the jkbms with 2 amp balancers but ive not been home yet to mess with them. Cant wait for my home time again

Those balance cable connectors with the 'locking clasp', are HY2.0 connectors. I had fun trying to track them down (ie identify them according to their physical appearance)

this leaves me feeling justified for only building 12v batteries with prismatic cells and a high quality BMS. it ends up costing more for the wire, charger, and inverter, but at any time I can swap out one of the batteries without affecting the system as a whole

Those are probably good batteries once you put a good bms on them. I have been building 2 batteries in the last couple weeks. One battery is 24 leaf modules that ive put a couple 5 amp balancers on and just got the jkbms with active balancers but haven't put them on the leaf cells yet but thats next. I also just got 16 of the eve grade a cells from 18650 battery store. I put a 300 amp dally on those cells. I might switch out the dally with a couple jkbms tho cause the dally dont do much balance and i didnt know that when i bought it

I have 3 of these GP batteries and had nothing but problems with them. Long story short... Each of the 3.2V packs of 20 IFR32650 cells had 2 empty fake cells. These fake cells had a green insulator while all the real cells were white. Once I replaced those and a few other bad cells, I was able to draw the full capacity. I also replace the cheap, unprogrammable BMS with 100A JBD's with BT.

I think I saw your story on Will’s forum. I need to see if some of my packs have the same problem. I did capacity test more than one battery to 100ah, but they could have been multiple batches. Did yours have the BH shrink wrap on the cells?
@VetSemperFi
@VetSemperFi Жыл бұрын
@@BeeneEnergy Yes, both the white and green fake cells are BH. It's a lot of work involving blood, sweat, and dollars to repair these packs. The replacement cells were about $20 each, the spot weld metal is thin and very sharp and you'll need new insulating paper, shrink wrap, spot welder, and welding strap. I only did it because it's in my electronic skill wheelhouse, I'm retired and just needed to know WTF happened. I suggest just replacing the cells with 4 good prismatic cells.

I appreciate the update videos! Mines still working fine. JBD with Bluetooth from Battery Hookup, paired with the Heltec style balancer and a cold temp relay attached to balancer. Use my battery to power my diesel heater for winter camping. Didn’t want the balancer destroying cells below freezing. I’ve seen other BMS’s that actually have a switch for the secondary balancer and can be controlled in the app. That would be nice. Here’s that BMS. Super overkill for this battery. Maybe they will make a 100 amp version. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpmlZaudxsi8ZmQ.html

Sooooo what you're saying is having a multi-volt battery (24v in the scissor lift, but swap a few connections and have 48v to feed an inverter) is a bad idea... at least with lithium? Back when I worked for an electric forklift company we had a monster 72v shop lift that we had taps coming off the battery for 24v, 36v, and 48v. Whenever we had a lift without a battery or with a dead battery we would just pull the beast up next to it and plug in a jumper cable. It worked great, but pretty rare to pull much out of it, so balancing the cells wasn't really an issue.

Love those kinds of stories, it's the kind of thing I would do! And yeah just jumping something off isn't going to change the state of charge enough to matter. I'm sure it was resolved during the next equalization charge on the lift.

How does the Delta inverter work for critical loads when the grid is down?
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy Жыл бұрын
If there's enough sun available it'll run them on the separate critical loads output. Overload and it'll try to start up again. In normal operation the grid flows through to the critical loads panel.

Hey got 1 last question I want to take a 100ah Lithium battery and have its own solar charge controller and have it put wattage into my lead acid bank at night only with like a night turn on sensor. If using 12v 100ah Lithium can I buy 500w to 800w inverter and just turn down the voltage coming out they have screw inside for that. To bring down to charge controller safe voltage to pull from Lithium at night to keep batteries good until sun comes up? This is for my RV setup I have 1200watts solar on the roof and 660ah usable gold cart batteries

I wouldn't use an inverter to charge another battery. If anything use a DC to DC converter or regulator I'd think.

hi!thanks for your video . from what i understand earlier in your video that you did connect 4 of these battery in series with one 16s BMS and still was having problems? just curious cause i do have 4 of them series and also experiencing issue in a 48v configuration. they don't charge totally at the top so i was using them at 80% of capacity without any problems.
@BeeneEnergy

Yes I have trouble with one or more cells packs sagging under load or spiking when charging. This was probably due to that cell being overly discharged while under management of the old bms.
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy Жыл бұрын
On the original bms you’re lucky to get 13.8v into each battery. So take that times four and 55v or so is where I’d expect it to max out. No balancing being done so it will only get worse with time!
@imag555
@imag555 Жыл бұрын
@@BeeneEnergy so with balanced cells to start with it shouldn't be an issue?
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy Жыл бұрын
@@imag555 The problem is cells don’t stay balanced. There will always be some difference which is why any good bms will top balance every time the battery is charged.

The seller sent me an add on balancing board for each battery. Any experience with them?
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy 8 ай бұрын
Yeah the balancers he sent out worked ok. Didn’t fix the fact the BMS’s would still fail. In my experience especially if they were in a 48v configuration. I suspect the mosfets aren’t really good to 60v.
@tsp2jxd

I have to disagree on this one. These batteries are not worth the time, money and total frustration. Get a server rack battery in 48v or buy better 12v batteries. I have 4 Weize 12v batteries in series and they seem to work ok. I have 4s balancer on them that does well but very limited use so far. I may get to the point that you are. If you had to do it again for a 48v system, I suspect you would get a server rack battery instead? Keep the videos coming. Anything with bullets in them is cool. 😎

Yep for anything new and all my recommendations are to get a battery that is the voltage you need it to be. Inevitably people will have a use case for 12v batteries in series but as we’ve seen it can be quite problematic.
