It would be more help to a novice if you could have shown process for removing wheels and method of attaching wheel linkage.

Where did you get the replacement wheels? I'd be willing to give this a go.

I acquired those replacement wheels from another Hornby Clockwork collector many years ago. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, these replacement wheel castings are not available for sale anywhere.

It is possible to obtain ready machined wheels from Larry Peacock on a website called toys of the past. There seem to be some omissions from this video if it is meant to be instructional such as if drilling for the crankpins, the centres of the crankpin holes from the axle need to be consistent to ensure smooth running. This can be achieved via a jig composed of a plate with a pin to fit the axle hole and a hole the same size as the crankpin. Clamp the plate with the pin in the axle hole and the hole over the crank boss then drill and voila, they are all the same throw. The next item is wheel quartering. The angular displacement of the crankpins around the axle needs to be consistent on both axles or the coupling rods will bind. This is best carried out with a jig. Usually cranks are set at 90 degrees to each other with the right hand leading. I would suggest looking at the North West Short Lines jig to give you the idea. I believe that North West Short Lines may even sell one for 0 scale but it costs a major wedge so it would be best to make one's own provided that one has the machines or dexterity and patience to fashion one oneself in which case you probably don't need to read this.

Thanks, that's good to know. The videos on my channel are not meant to be instructional. Each video is intentionally short and is designed to be an interesting video diary of what I get up to in my workshop. I welcome intelligent comments from like minded viewers.

Can someone tell me how the crank pins are removed? Are they push fit as well as the wheels?

Hi , very much enjoyed your video , could you please tell me where to get a set of wheel castings like the one used in the video ..many thanks Steven.

+Steven Fairhurst - these castings came from Blackgates Engineering in the U.K. They have wheel castings in all sizes. Google them and you can download the catalogue in .pdf format from their website. They also do international orders.

Hi, just got off the phone to Blackgates, they say they do not do the castings , just for larger/live steam , could there be another blackgate engineering that you bought from? , many thanks .Steven

+Steven Fairhurst - Chris Bourne, supplied these wheel castings and I thought he got them from Blackgates. Chris travels between South Africa and the UK fairly regularly. You can email Chris at chrisandvalbourne@gmail.com and he will be able to tell you where you can get them. I have mentioned to Chris that you may be contacting him.

Er - what holds the new wheels on the axles if they are just a push fit - superglue?

I also used Locktite 603 to secure the wheels to the axles, not shown in the video.
