Thank. you for servicing your Hornbyy wind-ups , and running them ! I especially like the frog-less switches and your station. The figures on the platform were in correct proportion to the trains. When I was young the only figures I had were 2 ga. size which I used with my Lionel "0" ga.

Thanks, I recently acquired a genuine O-Gauge Tinplate Hornby Station. It's well worn with some damage and a bit of restoration is needed but I'll probably leave it ""as is" and retain the character. cheers Paul

Nice little layout, seems just right for these charming old trains. Started acquiring some Hornby O tinplate myself, and they never stop making me smile. The clockwork motors are powerful little units, surprises me how fast they'll go and how much they'll pull.

Really not my type of thing. But these are very nice little bits of mechanical engineering. 👌🏻 Simple, brutal but effective. They certainly get up and go, and the sound they make is both horrific and endearing. 😊

hi there stumbled on you by chance, that O gauge really sticks to the track well!!!, i have a Hornby OO up my loft all boxed up from when i was a lad!!!! if i remember it never stayed on the track as well as your O gauge, Its wet my appetite to get it set up, but first i have to finish my 5" gauge live steam loco i'm scratch building for a first attempt. regards mr f

Thanks for your comment. It was fun to run my O Gauge collection gain, I spent hours getting the tinplate track perfectly aligned and only selecting track sections which were in the best condition. I also slightly banked the curves although this is hard to detect when watching the video. I also have a Hornby Dublo collection and I plan to set a up a layout for running soon. Watch out for the Dublo video :-))

Cant not love the ole clockworks, if they wernt popular we wouldnt have what we have today Listening to the old sets go round is my 'white noise' machine, TTS and all that jazz is great but i think the old ones sound a lot more "real" on the tracks ✌

I have a layout with 2ft radius track screwed down and slightly banked with cardboard so can have more goods wagons (added washers as Hornby didn't!) to run smoothly. The points are badly designed as well even for the 1930's but a little soldering helps. Apart from these minor items, the set is a joy.
@SteamerEdge
@SteamerEdge Жыл бұрын
Yes the the tinplate track and the points are very simply designed and pretty basic but, for me, that is part of its charm. When I built this layout I actually spent hours getting the tinplate track perfectly aligned and only selecting track sections which were in the best condition. I also slightly banked the curves although this is hard to detect when watching the video. Cheers Paul

Thank you I really enjoyed watching the train set, How many laps can it do on a single wind with carriages please? Thank you again. :)
@SteamerEdge
@SteamerEdge 11 ай бұрын
Thanks. After winding a Loco to about 70 % of wind capacity, I get four complete laps on that track on a wind when the Loco is coupled to two carriages, without the carriages about 5 - 6 laps. An interesting thing is the fact that these Clockwork motors gradually start to perform better after multiple runs. I always store the Locos in a Display case with the motors fully unwound. The motors generally do not initially perform well after a period of dormancy. Cheers Paul

Love these trains, is there any way to slow them down a little so the speed is also to scale.
@SteamerEdge
@SteamerEdge Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest, speed control is not really an option with a Clockwork Motor. But, in my opinion this is part of the charm of these old clockwork trains. cheers Paul

Is there an automatic brake by the station? It looks like they come to a screeching halt at the same point each time?
@SteamerEdge
@SteamerEdge 2 жыл бұрын
It is a manually operated Hornby Brake Rail, which I can be seen manipulating at 04:21 in the video. The intention and use of this rail is a bit of a mystery to me. I have found very little information on it in the literature.I think the Brake Rail was intended to be used to hold the wound Loco to be released when ready to roll rather than to stop the moving Loco. If this Brake is used while the Loco is moving fast almost certain damage would occur. Thanks for your interest cheers Paul

Hi Thomas, thanks for your interest, I had a look at your videos, WOW, your antique Marklin layout is fantastic and comprehensive, it must be a very valuable collection. Marklin made superb quality trains I think they were in the game well before Hornby and were definitely on another level of quality in the early to mid 1920's. Hornby caught up on quality manufacture a bit later though. Your videos are also very well presented and edited. Subscribed to your channel cheers Paul

@@SteamerEdge thank you very much, Paul. Welcome to my Channel. I made much things by hand, some things are new, much is old, its a mix. Hornby has a great quality. And the clockwork machines runs much longer than the märklin ones. Märklin made some machines in the end of 1920, witch hat two speed, throttling, but it doesnt works really good. One man who works for Märklin, later made Buco, build for Buco a machine in 1946 with two speed, fast, and slow and also, really good, an idle. Greetings Thom and also subscribe you!
