Peter, I can’t remember how I stumbled across an image of your twin trunk maple, but it happen about 1990ish. That tree has been the absolute source of inspiration for me and my journey in bonsai. I bought Bonsai Master Class not long after discovering the tree and have been following you and learning from you ever since. I can’t thank you enough for your wisdom and inspiration! I am also so thankful that you are using social media to teach others for free. I hope to make a trip across The Pond and visit your wonderful place. Thank you So Much!

Even though the work on that tree set my teeth on edge,(tree root dentistry) it's so amazing to watch the tree's character emerge.Bonsai has always fascinated me but being a scaredy cat pruner, I have never attempted any of it over the decades I have gardened. Thank you for all the detail you show, Mr Chan.I could watch all night and sometimes do.Stay well.Kaye in Australia.

For the thick roots, why break your back. Get a reciprocating saw to remove the big roots. Disposable blades that you just get rid of and the job is done and the extra blades are cheap.

Hitting the ax head with a hardened steel hammer could cause a chip to break off the hammer and possibly embed itself in your lip, er my lip, as that hammer did to me many years ago! Use a small sledge instead. You may want to wear a face shield or googles, at least.
