Thanks for this! Months have gone by thinking it was hydraulics. It was this. Clutch was hard as hell to press and never disengaged. My new pressure plate apparently went into another bmw at the mechanic shop..and his old one went in mine...and they did not know to reset the adjuster. Yow. Thanks again.

Top-Tip - If you use bolts instead of nuts you can pop the bolt through the hole using the bolt-head as "the nut" instead of having to faff about trying to keep nuts in place. :-) Same way, just saves some faff.

That is a cool trick. I literally just installed a new LuK SAC on a 03' Saturn Ion today. I was not familiar with the SACs and everything I read said you needed some $2000 machine to remove or reset it. In my case probably best I went with new as the pressure plate friction surface was wrapped pretty bad but good to know this can be done with out a special tool or an arbor press.

What are the torque specs for the flywheel to crank? Pressure plate to flywheel?
@JP_Stone
@JP_Stone 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeremylakenes6859 May vary from make and model but for the 03' Saturn with the Luk SAC I recently did it was 18 lb ft ( 24 N.M.) that is the factory spec anyhow I wanna say I torqued them down to like 24 lb ft the key is making sure even pressure during install you have to torque the bolts criss cross and start with like 8 lb ft then go around at like 12 lb ft and then final torque to the final spec.

@@jeremylakenes6859 it was 18 lb ft pressure plate to flywheel and flywheel to crank is 39 lb ft I just double checked the factory spec for the 03' Saturn

if you could help me! why the diaphragm of the luk sac clutch mechanism (automatic adjustment) remains blocked and does not go up. I used the cross tool to mount it. what is the mistake the mechanic made?

Est ce qu'il faut comprimer les ressort du mécanisme même si on monte un kit neuf ? ou bien dans le kit neuf c'est déjà armé ?

Hi, great video thanks, I don’t have a steel work bench but perhaps I could use a flywheel as my flat surface and mount it on a workmate bench to achieve a the same result, what do you think, Kind regards, Chris.

I am crying foul. I have this clutch plate. I Even have the OEM locking ring which I have utilized also. But after studying these videos where you and others have attempted to reset this self adjusting clutch plate... This actually doesn't really reset this pressure plate back to the factory new state! If you look at a virgin new plate you will notice the three spring loaded PINS on the outer perimeter are standing up. or in New Position! But on a released or even attempted Reset p.plate as in your video those pins are still fully bottomed out! Not Retracted or reset! Those PINS are hard attached to the p.plate friction surface portion of the plate. ie.. if the friction surface moves in or out the pins move in or out... You can visually compare yourself but you have not really reset the plate. There is something else besides the plastic spring loaded ring that is NOT being moved back to "NEW" Position! Albet nobody has mentioned or noticed this. But as I said if you go look at all images of a new set and notice the PINS you will see that they are fully retracted when new and Not after any of the Reset methods on KZfaq etc... Just FYI because I tried this also and its is not... Just to be perfectly clear when I say PINS I am not talking about the slotted spring loaded plastic slides you are moving back with a screwdriver or what ever... The PINS i am refering to are on the very outer edge / bolt flange area of the p.plate.

I will take a look at those pins when I get back into town but the procedure has worked for thousands of people including me I think the pins you are referring to are wear indicators and may look different if you reset a new clutch that's what I'm guessing as I recall they might not be pins at all just rivets on that clutch I'll take a look and get back to you Thanks Ben

Also as you reinstall the new clutch on to the pressure plate you must be very careful and torque it evenly and watch to make sure that the adjustment is not sliding back up
@sledgebeast
@sledgebeast 3 жыл бұрын
Nope! What I am refering to are not fixed Rivits! If you take the time to go and look at images of this EXACT Clutch Plate you will see these are in a different position when the clutch is Brand New/Uninstalled! vs Your attempt to try and reset this EXACT PLATE! The 3 Pins Do infact move position! Please take the time to look and research what I have pointed out! BTW there are tons of images of this exact clutch new on Rockauto, Amazon, Ebay, Etc that show and Backup what I am pointing too! If you'd take the time to look closely!
@sledgebeast
@sledgebeast 3 жыл бұрын
If you look at a side view image of one of these Clutch Plates New You will see that is not a Rivit but a moving Pin in direct relation to the friction area that is Standing a Half Inch above the surface of the Pressure Plate Housing... These and their Spring Metal are what Actually Extends or Adjusts The plate, Not just the Plastic Ramped Ring your are moving...There is a Rivit near each of these moving pins that hold the spring metal leaf that connects to that PIn. & That very same PIn on your supposed Reset plate is still completely Dropped. Indicating the Friction Surface part of the pplate has NOT been Retracted by doing what your doing!

@@bettergolf123 So I just went out to my shop and since I have the Flywheel off I laid it on my workbench and stacked the clutch and the pressure plate that I have "reset" and carefully bolted it down. The Pins do rise some, about half of their full travel, as the unit was bolted together. What I still think seems weird is a used unmounted "reset" plate the Pins remain bottomed out, But a New just out of the box plate those very same pins are standing fully retracted. So it seems that a "reset" plate is not equal to a virgin out of the box plate based on the pins position no matter how far you pull that adjuster ring back to OEM. My Plate is only one year old and not burnt up. There's no way there is a 1/4 inch loss on this plate. The surface is likely very much the same thickness it was when It was taken out of the box. Now my Disc does have some wear due to oil getting past my Flywheel Bolts. Which is the reason I had to take it back down.
Comfortable 🤣 #comedy #funny
