I found this really interesting cellophane glitter material that I thought would generate a nice opal effect. Regular glitter didn't work, so I wanted to try it. After a few failures I figured out a way to achieve the desired effect. Materials used: Envirotex Lite epoxy resin, black mica powder, cellophane glitter, molds, mixing cups and a mixing stick.

This if for my fellow UK crafters: If like me you spent hours and hours searching the net for cello glitter with no avail I finally found some. After searching cello glitter, sello glitter, cellophane glitter, gilding glitter, random cut glitter, snow glitter, iridescent glitter Ice glitter... I finally found MYLAR glitter. :-) Yay, I am gonna love making these. Thanks for the tutorial.

Beautiful, thanks for the demonstration. I have a few of similar jewels from my grandmother, when she was a young woman, she used to do these, only with dry little flowers. Also, it wouldn't be probably difficult to add a little loop / ring or two to the back of the "stones" while pouring the second layer, to create a button or a bead. No drilling needed that way. Thanks once more.

love this video. you can find the cello iridescent tissue paper at most dollar tree stores and it comes n lots of colors. and i normally make my own mylar and glitter out of it by cutting it up very fine and its only a dollar and the other one in this video is like $4 at my local Michael's.

When working with epoxy resin which ET-Lite is basically, I've seen people use colored chalk powder mixed with the resin. I guess this would work with the Envio-Tex Lite. I've used Envio-Tex Lite for years with great results, but never colored it. Have to try that. Thanks for the video.

This is very close to the way real opal triplets are made. first, they cut a dome of clear quartz, then they cut a slice of opal, then they cut a background slice of black stone like black onyx. then they glue them together and polish them.

True. You want to mix thoroughly but not like you're whipping and egg. Also, as she mentioned in the video, make sure you scrape the sides and bottom super duper well, repeatedly, as you stir to make sure you mix it all in.

I had been searching all over for the cellophane glitter, no luck. But I came across chopped metal leaf. It has gold, bronz, copper colors. I am going to give this a try and hope I get similar results. It can be found in most craft stores. Yours are just so beautiful ! I have been watching almost all your video's, you are a great teacher. You never give up, try different things and you end up with amazing results. I have only done one batch of resin cabs, hope the next ones come out better.

Things to try for more realism: experiment with shredded gold leaf and silver leaf (avail from Michael's and Hobby Lobby) and mixing with colored iridescent glitter. Also try shredding colored iridescent mylar foil in a blender or coffee grinder to get irregular shapes and sizes. Finally, add a bit of black tint to the first pour to emulate that smoky look of black opal.

I just watched this for the first time tonight, It is Dec 1. 2018. I am glad I looked and saw your comment. I have a LOT of of the gold leaf and in fact I have it in a lot of different colors. Like Coppers and Gold mixed with Verdigres leaf...You can buy it now in craft stores already torn to bits and there is a lot in each container for about $10.00. I am a card maker, so I use it for that. Love your other ideas too!

I have a bunch of this cello glitter that I used to decorate some stocking holders I made last Christmas. The glitter shown in the video is from Michaels, I think I found pink and this bluish purple color, maybe green too there. At Hobby Lobby, in the party supply section, they sell it in different colors, its sold in clear bags and they have a lot more in them. Hope this helps!!! I'm going to go get started on some beautiful opalescent resin domes! Thanks for sharing your tutorial! :)

I have also waited about 2 hours after adding cellophane and added glitter to make the same effect, then to smooth it just add a thin layer of clear resin when it a dries also known as doming with a clear layer and it has a beautiful effect.

When buying the cellophane sheets at the dollar tree or wherever, use a cross cutting shredder machine to achieve the chunky pieces. To have easy release from the mold, use a bit of pam spray or just buy the mold release spray at your closest craft supply.

I know this video is pretty old now, but I just learned that resin is a thing? Wow, I'm behind the times! So I started looking for videos and found this one. Love these fauxpals! I love the real thing, but they are way too tiny and don't usually have enough "flash," so to be able to make your own flashy fauxpals is a great idea! And you can make GINORMOUS one! Also..."this camera sucks. Piece o' crap." Nice honest personality. Also good to show the mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn!

Make sure you stir EXTREMELY well, way more than you think. Try stirring for three full minutes. Also, you want the same amount of both parts, resin and hardener. Measure to be sure you have the same exact amount. Also, don't fuss with it while it's drying. If you move it around or anything while it's drying/hardening/curing then you're going to get a lot of air inside and that will make it cloudy.
