In Part 2 we hear from the Dog Nutritionist and his opinion of a Prescription Diet for kidney patients. It's very revealing to see how little he knows of actual nutrition! Nothing is more critical for a kidney patient than a diet designed to manage the workload on the kidneys.
below is a link to an explanation of a kidney diet!

Fantastic video! Cam scares me. It’s infuriating to hear the advice he gives and I wonder how many pets will die due to his ignorance and negligence. I was someone who believed Hill’s was garbage food and fed my dog expensive food from a ‘bouquet’ pet shop. My dog also has many allergies. Thanks to your video’s and also Dr Rae’s videos, I have been educated. For the last three weeks my dog has been eating Hill’s Lamb and Rice and is not allergic to it. His coat has become very shiny, his eyes are bright and he’s acting like a puppy. Needless to say I’m a big Hill’s fan. My cat is also on the Hill’s Rx biome digestive care and it works great for her. I like that it’s appropriate for seniors. Previously she’d been on Royal Canin GI food, which she did fine on, but when I emailed the company to ask for the nutrient profile I was shocked at how high the calcium and phosphorus were. Hill’s for the win! I couldn’t help but laugh when you called Cam a horse’s ass, I quite agree! 😂 Looking forward to part 3.

Generally no, especially vitamins and minerals which should be balanced in the diet. Perhaps Omega 3 fatty acids? Regulation laxness is a problem too.

Late Night with The Pet Food Puzzle Guy. I think this is your best video. Not nearly as acerbic as I was expecting. Entertaining, humorous and informative. I believe they have coal mines in England, not caves. LOL

Though I understand the reason why by-products or animal fats might not be specified (to lower costs and allow rotation based on availability), as a consumer Id prefer them to be NAMED rather than clumped together under the general term of “animal fat” or “by-product” because I feel like it allows for more transparency to the consumer.

Exactly. Which is why I feed mostly homemade. To be fair, as Puzzle Guy says, the lower the percents of calcium, phosphorus and sodium, the higher the quality of the protein sources. I am constantly looking for better wet cat food. You have to contact most of the companies to get the information. It should not be so difficult to feed pets quality food.

@@NikkiGiovanelli In Europe, any ingredient that is more than 1% has to have the percentage listed. Not sure if "by-products" have to be named, if more than 1%. Not great, but it is a step in the right direction.

Nikki, the industry keeps the ingredient definitions vague so manufacturers can get away with using low quality ingredients. It’s all on purpose and has nothing to do with nutrition.

You go Glenn, give it to him! The problem is that there are so many of those "pet nutrionists" out there and so few of you that pet parents fall into the trap, as I did before I found your channel! Just the other day, someone, who had recently lost her dog who used to eat commercial dog food, told me that pet food manufacturers intentionnally put "poisoned" ingredients in pet foods to purposely make our pets sick so that we need to go to the vets often and give them all of our money so that they can get richer! So, this person has now decided to feed their new dog table scraps! My reply to her questionable reasoning was "good luck to your new dog"! Poor dog, I just fell sick to my stomach! Thank you Glenn for your honesty and telling it like it is!

It's horrible. Imagine a pet owner just had their dog diagnosed with kidney disease, they're already having million thoughts on their minds, some of which may be guilt and blaming themselves that they could've done something differently to avoid the disease and then this random "dog nutritionist" tells them that this vet prescribed diet is doing nothing but worsening their dog's health. At this point this is disgusting and dangerous.

I will have to ask my Vet about Hill's J/D diet. We are a small out of the way place I doubt the hill's rep is here often. Also large animals are the majority of their patients.

To me if you measure your experience in a profession with hours its not a great marketing tool. Just my opinion 🤷

Well, not claiming to be the sharpest tool in the shed but when you spend 8 hours a day in over 100 vet clinics with many many different doctors and teams, you kind of pick up on what works and what’s BS. And if you’re rubbing elbows and being taught by some of the best minds in the field, I think some rubbed off. It’s kinda like why I trust an older more experienced general practitioner over a young specialist just with book knowledge. But like you just my opinion

Another cool buzz word in the dog food world is “Human Grade Chicken”. Let do a dog taste test consisting of one bowl with “human grade” chicken and other bowl with by-products containing liver, heart, and gizzards. I think I know what my dog will eat first. People need to stop with their emotion and use facts. Same in politics.
@PetFoodPuzzleGuy
@PetFoodPuzzleGuy 6 ай бұрын
It’s a sad fact that foods claiming human grade have some of the worst nutrient levels and foods with feed quality have excellent ingredients with great nutrient profiles. Just because the FDA has no jurisdiction over feed ingredients doesn’t mean it’s all garbage… and the nutrients are the proof. Show me the minerals and I’ll know the quality. It’s all emotion these days. And pet food marketers and politicians know it.

I understand your point about by-products and I also understand Cam’s point about by-products -- I just wish all companies named the by-products used. (Also, maybe don’t throw religions out there like you did with Jehovahs witnesses. You’re on a global platform.)
