a k98 restoration and conservation video . This k98 restoration and conservation video(is a Dot) is sendend by a customer, and he ask me to do a complete restoration and conservation of this k98.
He dont want to preserve patina of this k98, he want that like brand new. So dont write anything about patina losting, i do what he asked me.
During this video, i scrub the k98 with a brass bullet, and i do a complete rebluing of every single small part (and a part of barrel). This k98 restoration and conservation video, give a chance to use some skill for re-new the wood and metal.
For any question write me a dm on instagram.

Well when some parts are broken or need replacing how else are you gonna restore it without after market stuff? I'd say that kinda stuff doesn't matter at all for a restore as long the gun is repaired and once again able to be fired.

I was very happy to see proper hollow ground screwdrivers used throughout the build. It may seem small to others, but to me that is an essential bit that "gunsmiths" get but most "restorers" do not. I was happy to see you had the right tools for the right job. (& yes you did a better job on this than I ever could have) #Cheers

Really enjoyed the video. I could very much relate to it. About 10 years ago, I picked up a pretty ugly Mauser K98k made in Brno, Czechoslovakia for $200. I am a Slovak American, so I was excited to find a K98k made in my family's country of origin even if the gun wasn't the best looking. The price was certainly decent. Also, Brno Mausers are reputed to be excellent. However, I quickly discovered that the stock had been covered in thick, uneven polyurethane. Not only that, but all the metal parts had been painted black and the paint was starting to chip off. What the heck, I decided to strip everything with a strong paint stripper. It turns out that the ugly polyurethane and icky black paint had actually protected the firearm. The bluing was at least 70-80% intact and the stock was in pretty decent condition too. I used cold bluing like in the video to bring the metal parts back to about 95%. As far as the stock, I used boiled linseed oil. I applied the oil by rubbing it in with 400 grit sandpaper. The 400-grit sandpaper doesn't really hurt the finish, however, the little bit of very fine grit that comes off the stock helps to fill in slight imperfections in the stock as the linseed oil dries. The stock is laminated, so the grit helped fill in the fine cracks between the various layers of lamination. I do have to say though that I went overboard on the number of linseed oil coats. Yes, I did nine (I have never been accused of moderation). So, finishing the stock took a while because you have to wait a few days between coats. But it does have a very nice smooth finish, even if a bit unmilitary. In the end I am very proud of quite a nice-looking firearm. It also has a great bore and is very accurate. I just wanted to end by talking a little bit about the gun itself. Clearly, the receiver and barrel were used in the war. Under the barrel there is a German army stamp. The stock also has a German army marking. However, the top of the receiver has been scrubbed and has the Czechoslovak rampant lion stamps on them, as does the barrel. No doubt this was done post war. The trigger guard and magazine base plate are all stamped metal and have the very large "winter" trigger guard. After the war, the Brno factory had lots of parts and access to war time Mausers, so they mixed and matched to reassemble firearms for export to get some cash flowing into the economy. Because of this none of my serial numbers match. When the factory ran out of wartime parts, they made their own, like the stamped oversized winter trigger guard. Again, thanks much for the video. Got me to remember the fun I had restoring mine.

Nice work. Laminated stocks are difficult to correct if there's damage - you did it well, and the metalwork was a good as anyone else could restore given its condition. Good to see you use the takedown disc on the stock for it's original purpose. I don't think you needed to use the WD40 and tweezers though, but it makes for a more entertaining vid!

When steaming out deep dents I've scored the dent with a new single edged razor blade (with the grain). The steam goes into the score marks (about 1/16" apart) and does a great job of raising it out.
