I am amazed at how well the plastidip worked. I didn't even know about the Buck Rogers figures or the gray head issue. If I see any of these figures available I won't pass them up.

The Buck Rogers range are lovely figures and well worth picking up

He looks great! Zombie buck terrified me as a kid.😊
@imarmodels9 ай бұрын
He seems to have suffered the most in the 12 inch range and CHiPs in the 8 inch

I always wanted a Wilman Deering figure😉👍
@imarmodels7 ай бұрын
Sadly they didn't do a 12" Wilma figure, just the small 3 3/4 inch figure

Great video, thanks! I'm blown away by how well the plastidip works on the head. I've always been put off buying the 12" Mego figures as so many of them have the problem with their heads, but I'm definitely going to have a go at restoring them now. More Mego restoration videos would be great!
@imarmodels2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it opens up buying a lot of figures I would have written off as ruined

video was a big help. my kirk and spock ears are clear or it didn't get there but otherwise better than before 😁
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if there was something blocking the dye on the ears? Finger grease etc?

I have all of the Buck Rogers figures, and Buck Rogers is the only one with a gray head. My 12" Star Trek, Moonraker, and Black Hole figures all have gray heads.
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
It's weird which figures go grey, the CHiPs figures, ST, Moonraker are all notorious but it does seem to only be Buck in that range

Try using Oxy clean on you clothing to remove stains. Just put it in with the detergent when you wash them.

Awesome results, would love to see more mego restorations

Thanks, I hopefully will have a CHiPs Restoration next if the figure ever turns up

@@imarmodels The gray happens more to the Ponch and Jon figures than to the Sarge figure. He was released a little later, and Mego may have used a different plastic.
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
@@seventiesfan717 the Sarge seemed to never make it to our toyshops so don't know if he was short boxed or just they didn't sell well so shops didn't restock the line when he came out?

That looks great. I will have to try on the black hole figures.

@@imarmodels yea i love watching videos on mego i got my first ever one two weeks back which is the wolfman from this year hope to get some vintage ones at some point
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
The new Mego figures are great, I have quite a few videos covering them. The bodies are not as well produced as vintage type 2 Megos but for the price can't be beat.

@@imarmodels the Buck's head is in pretty good nick on mine , it's the just clothes are pretty stained , so I'll have to get the vanish on it ;)
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
@@paulsillence4182 yeah Vanish works well. The belt seems to mildly discolour the tunic but no where near as bad as it could have been. Once his tights are laddered then I don't think there's any fix for that though.
@realcoolvintagetoys47863 жыл бұрын
Great video. I used the same method to repair my 12" Star Trek dolls! Here's the real question, though - who came up with this idea first? And how??
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
I think it must have been someone carrying an old grey Mego head whilst working at the plastidip factory and had just cleaned their car tyres. They remembered the head, pulled it out but their hands were slippy with tyre wet so the head went flying into a vat of plastidip and the rest was history... possibly :)
@realcoolvintagetoys47863 жыл бұрын
@@imarmodels I don't know, man. That explanation seems really obvious...
@VintageToyRush3 жыл бұрын
Never knew about this technique - The Gaming Toy Boy sent me your way!!! I'm going to try this on some Moonraker figures. Do you know if it'll revert to grey again and how long this would last?
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks to the Gaming Toy Boy :) I have heard that it sometimes starts to fade after a year so will keep an eye on them but even if it does then doing the dip once a year is a small price to pay to have Mego's looking pristine again :)

Anyone know if the other colors of Plasti Dip can help tint skin tones? I am trying to get a very light green and a very light blue skin tone and the dyes I have tried are too dark.

Any tips on removing the gray from Mego's female 12 inch figures like Kate McRae from THE BLACK HOLE? That figure has rooted hair. I would assume the plasti dip would ruin the hair on the figure.
@imarmodels3 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. Dipping would knacker the hair deffo. You could try carefully dabbing the plastidip on but it's not good at staying where you want it. I know Ilia goes grey but no hair there, does Kate go grey? Trying to think if I've seen a rooted head go grey. Good question :)
@Edgeofnight80s3 жыл бұрын
@@imarmodels Yes unfortunately my Kate figure has been facial gray for a while now. Not as vivid as the male figures but just enough to make her a zombie in training. I figured the hair part would be tough. I guess I could try to seal the hair off some way by pulling it back and taping a cover over it. But like you say the red goo goes everywhere.
@bartley3742 Жыл бұрын
@@Edgeofnight80s Did you ever try this? I'm needing to do an Invisible Girl figure. I'm spooked about the hair.
@Edgeofnight80s Жыл бұрын
@@bartley3742 I have only done it on the male figures with painted hair. It works fairly well if applied more than once. I have not yet tried it on the female figures with rooted hair.
@guitarman9182 Жыл бұрын
Does it matter what color plasti dip you use?
@imarmodels Жыл бұрын
Yeah the colour transfers so if you used blue dip it would stain the face blue
