The Mustang II was not a muscle car. But it wasn't total trash, either, like everybody loves to say these days. They sold like hotcakes because they were inexpensive, decent on gas, "sporty," and just admit it, they were pretty nice looking. Yeah, the build quality was crap like all cars of that era, and it was a sin to call it a Mustang, but they were ok little cars. Not digging the orange on that King Cobra, though.

I think the design was decently retro for the times. I think where they messed up was making it so unfriendly to V8s (engine compartment was cramped) and the wheel wells were too small for decent sized wheels and tires.

Those Mustang IIs were gawd awful cars. Yes they did serve to save the Mustang name and we should all be thankful. But they're simply Pintos. Ugh, what an awful era in car manufacturing. When they brought out the Fox platform in '79 it was like going from day old mashed potatoes to fillet mignon hot off the grille.

Joe ; I've always been pro Ford. But I like my Roadrunners. What's interesting is, Chevrolet (for the 1st time) didn't follow Ford's "Better Idea" and "soup up" the Vega and put Camaro/ Z-28 decals on the thing. The 1979 fox body Mustang just didn't do it for me. I thought it looked like Fred Flintstone's car. I thought @ the time Ford would come to it's senses and redesign the Mustang. After 6 agonizing years, I bought a brand new 1985 Mustang GT. I thought 210hp, with thee last carburetor was at it's peak. But in Nov. 2008, with the same allure as the 85 GT Mustang, I bought a New GT500. Problem is, it cost nearly 4x's what I paid for the 85 GT. The Camaro was the better looking car right through the 80's. John

@@cobracharmer6178 The basic '79 design lasted until 1993. People loved it. I'm actually a Camaro guy (I'm right now in discussion with a dealer to buy a new 2019 2SS 6 speed) but the 80s Mustangs seemed to strike a chord in America that maybe the Camaros didn't as much.

My understanding is they share a steering knuckle and a few miscellaneous interior bits with the Pinto, but not much else.

@@joe6096 ; The fox Mustang didn't last 15yrs because people loved them or the Mustang was gorgeous. It's because Ford diverted and invested billions of $$$$ in buying and reviving European auto makers. Same goes for the T-Bird.1989-1999? I thought that was the ugliest design ever. In the fall of 1984, I actually test drove a new Camaro IROC. At $16k, it was a little pricey.(married with children) In the spring of 85, I bit the bullet and bought a new Mustang GT with a 5spd. 3 options. am/fm radio and A/C. Can't remember the 3rd. Price was a little over $11k. Spring of 85, I went with my good friend to order his 85 IROC. It came in just a little over $16K. It was gorgeous! Red with T-Tops. He still owns it today. John

The 79 looked better than the Mustang II but the 79 -81s were pretty pretty lame. The 82 GT and the return of the convertible in 83 was the beginning of the Fox Mustang's great era, imo.

My distant cousin Terry O had an Orange 1978 Mustang King Cobra. He lived in southeast Minnesota and that car changed hands multiple times. I rode in it once. Terry O told me that he only found two articles mentioning orange 78 King Cobras.
@MustangsTrainsMowers4 жыл бұрын
One article said that only one 78 King Cobra was made in orange. Another article said that there was two. In 1993 or 1994 someone I think it was in Kentucky listed an orange 78 King Cobra and I called to ask a few questions. The seller said it had been in the southeast US for a long time.

Considering the mustang2 a muscle car is worse than considering a mach e a mustang , I get it , it did its job for those few painful years, but my goodness they were terrible.
@cobracharmer61784 жыл бұрын
Steve Hall ; The Mustang II's primary target were women. To THEM, anything over 20hp was considered muscle. Because it was more muscle than their boyfriends/husbands had! LOL :0

Does the museum staff do burnouts in all of these cars or just the Camaro pace car?
@BubbaSmurft4 жыл бұрын
That was a Yenko NOT the "pace car".
@toronado4554 жыл бұрын
@@BubbaSmurft Oh! LOL OK I should have gone back and watched that again before I made that comment. It's just that she says "once the cars receive their annual maintenance, they are taken outside and driven around to make sure they run properly" at which point the guy does a burnout. So the way they edited this it makes it seem like they routinely do burnouts with the museum cars. LOL
