People who watch this channel obviously don't have the destroy sh*t gene. I watch because I like to see things restored and treated properly. But when you think about it, they had to put a vast amount of miles on this bike to wear it out this much. It's a sign that it was ridden hard, which is better than staying at home or keeping the bike in a shed gathering dust! Bikes are serviceable, better to use and abuse them than to baby them

Some people buy overpriced expensive shit like carbon bicycles without understanding they will also be a pain in the ass that needs way more maintenance. Bicycles are just like cars, the more expensive, the more expensive is to keep it going, and you see all the time poor people saving money to buy a second hand luxury car because they dont understand what a bottomless money pit they are getting into

I ride this model of Propel and can say, even with good dry climate, and regular maintenance, guiding the cables through the frame is a pain in the butt. Good on you for treating the Propel properly, it's a solid and fast frame but needs a lot of love and patience.

Your customer definitely brought the bike to the right place. It’s now probably in better condition than when it came out the factory. Looks to me like they oiled the chain when it was dirty. Big mistake as this just attracts more dirt particles and accelerates wear and tear. I only know this because I’ve done this myself. 😂 Great vid as always.

Just a tip with the carbon fiber bikes spraying the degreaser directly into the frame depending on what is in it can be a very bad thing as if its strong enough it will eat through the glue/epoxy holding all the different layers together, Great restoration!

I overhauled my own 2017 Giant Propel a few months back. I can attest, as a newly qualified mechanic, that it took me about 10 days to sort it out. Replacing the cables was an absolute pig of a job, and I don't mind admitting that it became so frustrating at one point that I almost took a hammer to the frame.😂 I'm still not 100% satisfied with the gears, but I can't afford to spend more on it right now, so it'll have to do.

@antunmcmagnais8856
@antunmcmagnais8856 3 ай бұрын
@yonglingng5640 I suspect two issues, both of which would mean buying even more new components. Firstly, the rear derailleur cage might be slightly bent, and secondly, the outer front chain ring appears to have a slight kink at one particular point as it revolves. Basically, I had quite a nasty crash when my rear cassette failed, and despite replacing the freehub and cassette, they're still not working as well as I'd like.

New subscriber here... I restore old bikes as a hobby and have learned a few things thanks to your generosity. I'm awaiting delivery of my ultrasonic cleaner, having seen the miracles it performs in your videos. Silly question... What do you put into your "Soapy Water" when you wash the parts that have been degreased? I'm guessing you live in a soft water area as I can never get that lovely soft foamy lok in my bowl...

I always enjoy your videos with a cup of coffee! That bike definitely was ran into the ground. But you guys worked your magic on it, and brought it back to life! Better than new even.

Superb work. What an epic. Internal cable routing looks so unappealing from a mechanic's point of view!

I've worked on one before, just a little more cumbersome than the average bike with regular internal routing, if anything.

Makes me wonder about the design and quality of components in modern bikes. On this bike the headset bearings were shot, the bottom bracket had already been replaced and it appears to be a pain to thread cables through the frame. On my 2005 Tarmac Pro all I've replaced is consumables. The headset and group set including the bottom bracket are all original and in perfect working order after 20 years. Still, it was great to see you do a first class service.

With so much being worn out on this bike, it's amazing that the wheels and the bottom bracket were still ok. Maybe the bottom bracket was changed at a previous time?

Gosh. We should all watch this and make a note to self about regular maintenance and servicing. Some of the points of failure would have been dangerous and a video like this necessary for us all. I have my bike stripped back annually and take off and clean the chain and cassette every couple of weeks. You get used to it. Very well presented video also. Suspect the customer had a massive shock and beaming smile.

If I'd had to repair this bike I'd have fitted a bell, a dork disc and a nice set of spoke reflectors as an extra for the owner, with complements.
