A bit of a ramble this one. Third year is over, results day has come and I go over my open day presentation and my 'story' of how I ended up studying physics.

this is so very helpful. I'm a 34 year old American who came to the UK to study astrophysics and some days are great and some days are scary. this degree definitely fuels my fight or flight reactions. i've considered quitting so many times and so often think im crazy for studying this. i'm on my foundation year and really appreciate your videos. COVID has also made this year so hard and so isolating... but i feel like i'm on such a similar journey as you and so glad to see your videos. so thank you.

Hey! Covid has made things so much harder. I'm sorry you're experiencing such isolation on your foundation year. Nothing quite like physics for pushing you outside your comfort zone too. I hope things improve in 2021 and I'm glad you're having great days too. If you've got any question I think there's an email address on my contact page so feel free to drop me a line!

Congratulations. I'm from Portugal (30 years old) and I am currently studying at University in London as a student/part-time worker. I also had a diploma from Portugal but it wasn't a proper university degree. I hope I get where you are now and I dream one day to start my Phd too! I am very happy you did it ;) Thanks for showing us its possible.

Love this video! Thanks for sharing, Hannah. I previously shared the gist of my mature student journey on 1 of your videos. I'm now in 3rd Year of my undergraduate degree and already considering doing a PhD in my subject in a few years time. I plan on applying for teacher training when I start 4th Year in September 2021. I've loved the university experience but I, too, am looking forward to graduating. Wishing you all the very best for 4th Year!

Loved this Hannah! Congrats on finishing third year and also for changing your mindset towards grades over the past few years. I know how difficult that is!! Smashed it 💪🏻

Hi Hannah, I have always had a pre- conceived idea that I can't do maths! I'm a mature student (36) and 2 years ago quit my job and went back to uni full time to study Psychology with Foundation. I received an E or F in maths when I was 15! Sat it again 3 years ago and failed again (didn't put enough time in to it as was also doing an access to science course)! But managed to pass my maths module (alternative to GCSE) in Foundation Year! I put in many hours - never thought I could do it! Now I'm looking at retaking my GCSE next year! Thank you for the videos - very inspiring and you have given me maths confidence !!!

Thanks for being so honest with your grades from your foundation year! I’m actually struggling now as a foundation student in science after working in corporate jobs for 6 years. It’s not easy being a mature student. I think in the first year of my studies, I’m learning how to learn. And it’s really important. I’ve not been learning much in my working life. All these are challenging but interesting to me :) btw that mug you have reminds me of my diary I kept since 15 where I wrote down the major I wanted to study and I’m pursuing it now. Thanks for creating videos like this. It motivates me to keep it going :)

Thanks Gisellle! You're totally right about learning how to learn - it's a bit of a shock to the system. Good luck with the foundation year - hope you smash it!

@@HannahColemanV Yes it definitely came as a shock to me. Hopefully, I will get used to it soon. I'm really glad to hear from you. Needed that motivation. Also, all the best for your final year!

Great video, Hannah! So personal and so motivating. I caught myself making various facial expression, form being sad, surprised to happy and smiling, while watching your video ) Watched it to the end! I am also enjoying every year of my physics degree. Looking back after finishing my third year I too wonder how was I able to make it this far in the degree. And yet I stil feel I'm not doing my best to get better at learning. Industry job or Master's Degree is the big question for me too. Let's see what the next year will bring! All the best to you! I hope to see more vids form you ;)

I’m thinking about doing a foundation year in physics and astronomy as well and your videos have really helped so thank you. Also YESS I recently just read Bill Bryson’s a short history of nearly everything and absolutely fell in love with the book and physics.

I just finished the FY at leicester. Did great! But was wondering if there is any prep or something that I could do over the summer to help me in first year. Thanks
@HannahColemanV4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Congratulations! I would say make the most of the summer and relax so you're fresh for first year. But if you want to do some prep then going over your FY maths will always be useful.
