Since childhhod I was always curious about odd countries like Paraguay. I finally went there a few years ago, and I enjoyef it. It feels like a step back in time. By the way, the on arrival tourist visa costs $150 in cash, and is valid for ten years. Be sure to bring crisp, new, unblemished $20, 50 or 100 bills to pay for the visa. They will push any note that is even slightly folded right back at you. They pushed several back at me until I finally produced peefectly umnlemished notes 😊. Get fresh cash at your bank before you travel and place them inside a book or something that will keep them pristine. I'm currently living in Brazil, but would consider Paraguay in the future.

Interesting... I am Swiss, economist, living in Paraguay for 10 years... Finka, own water, own food... big house near Asuncion, Capital City... Good life, but no more cheap. Poverty very well visible. Education very low and if, only very specified, not general. Absolute need to speak/read spanish. Absolutely needed is enough money... very little possibility to earn enough.

Yes, that's right. Paraguay has become expensive. Rents, land and energy costs are very, very cheap compared to other countries. Food very expensive considering the minimum wage. Import products are even more expensive. If you want a western lifestyle, you pay the same or more than in Europe. Overall, however, it is significantly cheaper than in the USA or Europe due to the low housing costs, low taxes, and ridiculously cheap housing costs such as energy. Doctor visits are also very cheap. No insurance for anything. Live with family, 3 children in Villarrica. 250 dollars, large house with garden and terrace. 50 euros energy costs. 3 Aires in operation. Car, Moto, Food, Clothing, Colegio Fees: $1600 per month. In Germany we needed 1000 dollars more.

@@Colette_45 What do you mean by "western lifestyle"? Minimum wage sucks everywhere, including Europe. Also if Germanistan doesn't fix their energy issues they won't be able to afford their living standards anymore. That, if kebabs don't stab everyone first.

Yes, it's cheap living in Paraguay but you get what you pay for. If a person ends up with cancer in that country it's pretty much a death sentence. My girlfriend lives there and it was found she has cancer and I wasn't going to let her get treated in Asuncion for any amount of money. There is only one country in south America that has advanced cancer treatment and that's Ecuador. Even some Americans go there to be treated because it's one tenth of the cost in the USA and the results are positive. Another problem in Asuncion is when it's hot the power goes out so even if you could afford the electric bills you still won't have air conditioning on the hot summer days when the power could go out for days at a time. Same goes for internet when it storms the internet goes out so again you get what you pay for. Cell phone coverage is good while it's working but during the worse storms that sometimes goes out in different sections of Asuncion. I don't know how it is in the countryside. Since I have a heart condition I would never go to live in Paraguay.

Yes. That's correct. But: Paraguay is developing very quickly in all areas. It offers good opportunities to position yourself here for the future. In 10 years, many things will be much further. This shows the current development. The health sector is also improving.

@@Colette_45Never going to happen in that country. The voters in Paraguay have to ability of critical thinking. They'll vote for another dictator before they vote for someone like the new president of Argentina. Ecuador is so far ahead of Paraguay even today that it makes Paraguay look silly.

A few important items you did not discuss that most westerners take for granted. Water: Is the water system drinkable (probably not) and if not how bad is it in terms of showing, cooking, brushing teeth? I've lived places where showering OK, but cooking and brushing teeth will make you sick, and I also lived places where all three are OK, just in moderation? Is there any kind of sewage system or is everything just flushed into the streams and rivers, in which case better to live upstream in whatever town you are in? Do they use cisterns and water catchment system, or draw water from a well and pump or is it all supplied by the town system Hot water: Do they use gas tanks to create hot water, electric on demand (which often does not wk right), or just not common at all? Passive solar (a water tank out in the sun all day) In the Dom Rep I took my HOT shower at 4pm because then the roof tank was always hot?

The capital city of Paraguay, Asunción, is one of the most incredible places. Besides, from my experience, I could discover different countries that offer unique options through multiple citizenships and residencies. Paraguay is one of those countries.

I did it, I am in Villarrica been to Piribebuy, expat Canadian hit me up mate for a cup of tea and biscuits! I am renting an apt. for $248 Canadian dollars it is a brand new building with only 4 apt. units. two stories, low rise.

The weather is great, do you like sunny days between 22C to 32C. The rain usually comes in the late evenings not all days. Internet is great and so is electricity. I am a Canadian expat living in Villarrica.

@@CarlitoVillarricaI am German and also live in Villarrica. The summers are brutal and unbearable without air conditioning. 40 degrees and high humidity. It can get cold in winter. 15 degrees a day, but also 30. Depends on the wind direction. Outside the months from December to March I find it pleasant. We spend some of our summers in Brazil, Matinhos or Florianópolis. To escape the heat.

Depends on what you value but: Montevideo, Uruguay - decent income tax, nice weather all year round (a bit like Los Angeles or The Canary Islands) Asuncion, Paraguay - low income tax, very hot about half the year, lower average salary Basically go to Uruguay if you can afford it. Go to Paraguay if you want to save on money. Uruguay = Portugal Paraguay = Bulgaria I live in Bulgaria, fantastic place :) I would pick Uruguay if I didn't care about income tax rate. I work online so I like places with low income tax rates.

I'm an American citizen with USA passport. My wife is an Iranian, living in Turkey for the past 7 years, with Iranian passport. I understand Paraguay does not give visa to Iranians but since she is my wife and I can easily travel to Paraguay, can I bring her as dependent and apply for residency once we get there?

You can get to Asuncion from Villarrica in a really nice air condition bus for dirt cheap in Canadian dollars and get the app. Bolt for taxis in Villarrica to get anywhere for about $3.00 Canadian dollars and for $20 Canadian dollars you can tour the town like 6 times lol!

Recently there is even Bolt in Villarrica. I don't use it because I have a car and a moto, but my daughter uses it and it works great.
