Raced against John in the very first series of Superteen in 1991. Top lad. Fast forward and when he broke his leg and was in hospital in Ireland, I forwarded him my copy of the 1991 British Gp program as we were all doing a demo race at the event and it was a great piece of motorcycling memorabilia. My prized possession. Then after I posted it they moved him. I thought it was lost forever. Just wanted to thank him for all the entertainment he'd given over the years. Then I went to a talk in my town with him and Whit. Had a photo op and asked if he got it. His reply "Bloody hell! I did get one of those... thanks very much!" Never had a bigger smile on my face. Legend and gentlemen.

As an American, who has grown accustomed to the over-the-top personalities of professional athletes here in the states, the humbleness of Mr. McGuinness is refreshing and admirable. Please continue to ride safely, sir, and inspire others in motorsports.

Ask the average Brit who John McGuiness is and they wouldn't know! Motorcycling is very much a niche here. I think that helps John get on with his life and not get mobbed everywhere.

The most down to earth professional rider I’ve ever known. Humble, honest, hugely experienced and unlike some, has his head screwed on and feet firmly planted. Fame has not ruined John and he really hasn’t deserved the terrible run of luck post 2016, particularly that horrible injury. A bloke’s bloke who loves his bikes and club racing. Similar in some ways to the late, great Joey Dunlop. I wish him well for the future and it would be great to see John get another TT win 👍

Well, the 2022 TT just wrapped up and John was there in the top 10. As a 72 year-old sportbike rider, I can totally agree with his desire to keep racing, however there must come a time for him when he has to consider the danger of racing in the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world. I hope he does retire at this point because I get heart palpations when he climbs on a bike at the TT. He's a treasure of a human being we don't want to lose.

I'd love to see John on the top step at the TT again but today's young Turks are also athletes as well as great riders. John is a great rider and doesn't need anything in that regard but in my humble view in order to beat the likes of Hickman, Harrison & Dunlop he needs to become an athlete. Although still a youngster at the time Dunlop took a new approach to his fitness a few years ago and it paid huge dividends. One of the best performance increases to be had is improving power to weight ratio. There are still wins to be had if John was to do the same.

Well all I can say is if you don't appreciate this guy for who he is and what he's done there something wrong with you! I think it would be great that in a couple of years time there could be a series for the over the 50s in the bsb paddock, maybe a one make series. I'm sure there's plenty of the elder statesman who could put on a good show for us.

What is a shame is that if you ask the average Brit who he is, they wouldn't have a clue! Deserves more recognition than alot of our other top sportsman because of the amount of TT wins and more importantly the levels of danger are greater than any other sport.

I think the huge problem is that retail motorcycles aren’t particularly profitable. Most manufacturers already fund MotoGP. Road racing simply doesn’t raise their sales by the amount it’d cost to properly sponsor a team.

It annoyed me at around 15 minute mark that John had to defend himself there from those ridiculous things that tiny minority were saying! I've seen it first hand with all the social media sites last year with rossi complaining saying he's finished he won't/can't win to pack it in and then those exact same people in tears that it was his last year and how they going to miss him! Enjoy and appreciate who's riding and going out there we'll never see the likes of mcpint rossi etc again don't say something then flipflop the next day, if you love bikes and racers that race give them the support and appreciate while they here and still doing it! I can't wait to see John at NW200 this year hope to shake his hand be a shite day when he retires hope its not for many years!

John, you May miss it, but can you say that it was ever fun? I raced RDs here in the US,amateur for eight years, nothing much Compared to your level, small potatoes, very small..BUT-I won 6 championships, two time national champion, ancient history, my point is, it was never fun, never. I was stressed days before every race, triple checking everything because I was my own mechanic,,I was not afraid of crashing or getting hurt, my biggest fear was of not winning, especially after I had won the first championship. I don’t know if it’s common with guys at the top, but if you look at videos of X Formula One racers before a race. They’re not smiling and back slapping and whooping it up. They all have that 1000 yard stare. Especially guys like Ayrton Senna. And Nigel Mansell. Those guys never looked like they were having fun just before a race. So John, was it ever fun for you? Or was it constant self induced stress and pressure???
