Well look. When you work at a place, you have to get ready, which is a chore in itself, then you either have to drive, walk, or take public trans/cab. Those cost time and money. So at minimum, you're probably looking at least an extra hour of time in addition to your work. And most people want at least 2 hours between waking up, and leaving for work. And most employers don't pay you for lunch, but still insist you take it, and make you stay late to make up the time. So now your 8 hour day is a 10-12 hour day, and you had to spend money to even get there. Then you have to deal with co-workers, a/c that you can't control, you can't eat, drink or smoke when you want, and you end up spending all your time either working, getting ready for work, or recovering from work. So why the hell would anyone wanna go thru that if they don't have to? Especially for minimum wage.

They shouldn't. Any job that doesnt need a building but has one any way is a way for that company to use the building as a tax write off. They also write off the huge insurance costs of having a building full of workers. Im sure theres others like upkeep on the buildings and the grounds they write off too. Thats why so many places have people in cubes with a computer they could easily use at home instead.

As a former call center rep, this is 💯 I lasted 18 months. I don't know how people retire from it. Minimum wage + commissions = toxic work environment. Customers calling in angry and you have to take their disrespect on one side and then supervisors giving you stress for not upselling enough (because they get a bonus if their team meets certain %)...your peers steal your sale order if a customer calls back and you are only allowed two 10 min "bio breaks" and a 30 min lunch -that is scheduled in an 8 hour day. If I could have worked from home that would have been a HUGE benefit. Please be at least civil to the person you're addressing on the phone at a call center...it does nothing to unleash rage on the first person you get, they may even be less helpful because that is the only defense they have against abusive caller just ask directly for a supervisor.

I'm amazed that businesses haven't been leading that charge already. Thousands, if not millions of work hours are lost each year just to traffic, not to mention sick days, have-to-wait-for-the-repair-person days, etc. It goes to show how paranoid the business owners are in this country, afraid that every employee will just nap through their shifts if they're not supervised the whole time.

The mayor of NYC didn't even originally say "get back to the office" he said "get back to work", like working from home was somehow not work. Of COURSE NYC wants people back in the office buildings. Best way to sell the concept of remote work is to tell the finance department that the remote work will ultimately reduce overheads such as rent for office space, commercial lease, utility expenses such as electricity and water as well as printing expenses (with their associated support contracts). Therefore, there will be plenty of money left over to award hard working staff bonus and better pay rates. Since, that would mean finance would also get better pay rates and bonuses by extension. Win-Win for everyone as staff morale gets a boost and a happy staff is a productive staff. So more work gets done over all.

I live in Ottawa. One of the funniest stories I heard during the protest came from a local reporter who was going around asking where people were from. He spotted a man holding a confederate flag and approached him with the question. The man replied “I’m from Gatineau”, which is just across the river in Quebec. He asked “Then why are you carrying a confederate flag?”. His response was “It’s the only flag I got.” I’m guessing that he grew up watching The Dukes of ‘azzard.

FYI: Corporations complained here about people not coming in to work because of Covid risk. Low pay, no sick leave, no to poor health insurance. So our government, instead of raising minimum wage, supporting worker rights and health care, had DHS announce in Jan. that hospitals and health providers would no longer be required to report Covid cases as of Feb 2. Also, set up home instant testing which isn't reliable and isn't reported. So by the end of the month, reported cases go down significantly, funny how that works when they're not reported any more, and corporations end working from home safely. Welcome to the corporate state with a bought government.

@@RubbishFPS One Republican politician stated in a tweet that she wanted to pass a law to give the protesters temporary sanctuary or something, thinking they had no rights at all. I replied back: "Great idea! Make it permanent. You don't need to send them back to us."

@@myridean2k4 Meanwhile those same Republicans are lambasting sanctuary cities for people from other countries who are in actual danger. It sure would be nice if they found another trick other than blatant hypocrisy, wouldn't it?

@@danielgehring7437 Hypocrisy comes with /most/ politicians when they flip flop. Sometimes for the better while some do not. I think something I've missed so much from Jon Stewart's Daily Show was the great work from their researchers on calling politicians out on that, sometimes using footage at least a decade old. Priceless! :D

2:52 My favorite type of comedy involves inside jokes between employees no one has ever heard of before. Just remember: It doesn’t need to be funny if it’s homogenized and safe for *everyone*

Because attempting to give a personalized face to the 'generic employee' of your joke is... a bad thing? It's the creation of a character, nothing wrong with that.

And Hawaii SHOULDN’T drop their mask mandate considering how consolidated their populations are. If shit starts spreading on one island, shit will go south quick there

I'm glad common sense has prevailed there, esp. because it is a tourism hub, and leisure and domestic travel is starting to take off big time again. So, not only is Hawai'i at risk from intrastate transmission, but also all the out-of-state idiots who will flock there and bring the virus with them. I hope our shit mayor in NYC at least keeps the mandate on public transit. To life that would be disastrous with so much population density

I haven't worked from home, but I can definitely say I'd much rather do that if my job allowed for it. Same for school.
