Haha, got it! You sound very angry.. I'll make one thing clear, I enjoyed TPM when it came out. To this day I believe TPM could have been great if Lucas would have had some help with the story. Anyways, I read Coolmans message just fine.. I'm just shocked to see all this Mike Stoklasa hate; the man is hilarious and know's what he's doing. And they still didn't do that great, Quigon had to run away from Maul on Tatooine. They ended up getting stuck with a gungan sidekick, despite Quigon literally trying to get him to go away when they first meet. They almost get eaten by a giant fish too. And they just barely get the queen off of Naboo. Let's not even cover the fact that Quigon and Obi-wan are met with a total brick wall named the Jedi Council. They literally got nothing that they wanted on Coruscant.

yes they where. they have no character traits outside of being "stoic" and they have zero chemistry together. there's no reason to care about their relationship because never interact with eachother on a meaningful level. compare that with Luke and Obi Wan who actually do have moments of levity together and have more time to bond and learn from Obi Wan and since Luke was already missing a family by the point of Obi Wans death, its far more of a tragic death. Unlike Qui Gon who dies and pretty much never gets brought up in any meaningful way, while Obi Wan was impactful for the story through the whole original trilogy

except thats not true at all. Gandalf showed moments of weakness, moments when his emotions got the better of him and times where he realized he had to take a more gentle approach to problems and trust the hobbits and there are times, especially in the last two movies where Gandalf is shown wrong about what merry and pippin can do. Gandalf was always a complex character with a wide range of emotions, from righteous fury to humble jolliness. It doesn't matter what excuse you make, being a "paragon" doesn't absolve your characters from being dull and shallow.

@itsasecrettoeverybody 5 ай бұрын
@@joedatius if anything quin gon jinn is less of a paragon than Gandalf, he endured difficulties, like Gandalf, he was deceived, unlike Gandalf, he was killed and stayed dead, unlike Gandalf. The problem is that you can't see beyond the hero's journey. You don't see Gandalf to be as "boring" as quin gon jinn, because in the LOTR books the story is not from his perspective like in the prequels, if you read other stories from Tolkien that detail the story from Gandalf's perspective you will probably think the same about LOTR and Gandalf. The hero's journey in LOTR is a facade, Gandalf was always 10 steps ahead of Sauron. He is the paragon of the paragons and the eru's chosen one. He won even before the journey started. The characters in the prequels on the other hand, they all are set to fail. They are much more deep and interesting narrative wise than Gandalf. And I say that as a massive Tolkien fan. But quin gon jinn is the best character and the most tragic one. You are just an idiot that can't appreciate anything outside of the basic formula. I'm not saying doing the basic formula is bad, but just not doing it doesn't make something automatically bad. The prequels are a perfect tragedy, and his characters are perfect tragic heroes. The film making side of the things have it's problems, but it still is a great tragedy story.

Plinkett's silly point about the movie being empty without context would be a terrible precedent to implement. Films in a universe don't have to stand in isolation, just as much as episodes in a series don't have to stand in isolation, and scenes in a movie don't have to stand in isolation. What matters is that the audience understands. And they understood what was going on in Rogue One.

Also, you can make the exact same criticism of The Empire Strikes Back. Who the fuck is the ghost who turned up while Luke was freezing in the snow? People who've watched the previous movies know it's Obi-Wan but newcomers would be confused. If Stoklarsehole wants to complain about context, he should know that Empire Strikes Back needs A New Hope and Return of the Jedi because it wouldn't hold up on its own. It needs to context of A New Hope and the wrap up of the story in Return of the Jedi because it doesn't tell a complete story within its own movie. Imagine if nobody ever learned what happened after "I am your father".

I honestly think that Saw Gerra was set up pretty well. This is mostly because I have the benefit of knowing he was in the Clone Wars and how that affected his characterization. His backstory is that during the Clone Wars TV Series, Saw was part of a Republic-backed resistance movement on his homeworld on Onderon which due having join the Separatist willingly, made the prospect of a Republic campaign to retake it more difficult to pull off because they would come off as the aggressors. Saw's attitude in the film mostly comes from a combination of losing his sister during the Clone Wars and the fact the Republic he was supporting at first became the Empire leading to a situation of meet the new boss same as the old boss. Also I would point based on Mr. Plinket's claim about the premise without context, they were going to have the superweapon destroyed in the sequel. Plus the film itself establishes not everyone in the Rebellion believed the Empire had the Death Star thinking it was just a bluff to get the Rebels lured into a trap so obtaining the plans would prove they made it.

The biggest crack in the RLM veneer came with their Force Awakens review, I think. The vast majority probably came to their video expecting a break from the shill media gushing over that abominable film only to have Plinkett bitch about the prequels for 80% of the review, and then to provide the softest criticism imaginable while heaping a lot of undeserved praise. When superior film analysts rightly raked the film over the coals, and the nostalgia goggles lost their power, RLM was caught with their pants down. I find Mike, Jay, and Rich to be highly entertaining and often enjoyable content creators, but like anybody, bias can hamper the intellect. I do think they hit a few key points of the prequel's problems that other reviewers missed, but overall many of the points they make in those reviews demonstrate a very limited analytical acumen.

Galen Erso did _not_ set up the exhaust port as the flaw in the Death Star. He was in charge of designing the central reactor, not a tiny little external vent pipe. The weakness he created was a subtle instability in the reactor, arranging it so that a small energy overload would set up a chain reaction that would cause the whole thing to explode. That was all he dared do. All he was capable of doing. He could only hope that someone would be able to figure out _how_ to exploit it. And that was genius on the part of the writers. They actually managed to set up the core premise of R1 in a way that did not conflict with the original _Star Wars_ . When the rebels got their hands on the plans and said they "hoped to find a weakness", they were telling the truth. While they had some general idea what the flaw was, assuming the intelligence they got was accurate, they still had no idea if it was possible for them to actually take advantage of it. In fact, it is likely that there were several ways to instigate the chain reaction, but most of them would involve being _inside_ the station at the time. The rebellion were just lucky to find one direct path into the reactor from the outside, and luckier still that some engineer had decided that it was not necessary to fully shield such an insignificant and obscure portal against external attack.

Maul has his teeth gritted, brow furrowed and is silently furious throughout the fight, as is expected from a Sith. Qui-Gon is stoic, focused, but most of all calm and controlled, which makes sense for a Jedi Master. Obi-Wan, at least for the first part of the fight, is determined, yet also nervous, cautiously pressing on the attack until spurred on by the death of Qui-Gon, which makes sense for any young, fledgling type of character.

I never watched the original video of this goon, but showing that scene from A New Hope made me realize something. Everyone talks shit about the Stormtroopers aim (which they were told to do), but the heroes missed EVERYTHING without being told to. when the trooper blew up the wall Han took like 5 shots and only hit 1. And when they are fighting by the trash compactor I don't think a single stormtrooper died

The number one thing that made Darth Maul a total bad ass was that he was perfectly willing to take on two Jedi by himself. He didn't even pause or blink. He stalks towards them without any hesitation. All, and this is a martial artist of 35 years talking, ALL of him is completely confident in his ability to defeat them BOTH. Had he not been taunting Obi-Wan and just finished it, the prequels would have had a very different ending.

It's refreshing to find someone who's willing and able to call out those know-nothing know-it-alls over at Red Letter Media. As a fan of the prequels myself, I wouldn’t deny that they have some legitimate flaws or that there are people who can or have criticized these movies in a relatively fair, objective manner, but RLM are not among those people. While they may have made a few decent criticisms against those movies, they often just nitpicked and exaggerated any potential flaws they could find, many of which were usually little more than insignificant details. I would even argue that in some cases, they went so far as to actually manufacture flaws and tried creating problems where none even were. They also went beyond simply criticizing the movies and did a number of what could be considered personal attacks against Lucas himself. When showing footage from the Phantom Menace’s behind the scenes, their Plinkett character made several unsupported assumptions that seem to deliberately paint Lucas in a negative light, like seeing looks of “terror” and “mistrust” in the movie staff whenever Lucas was present. He later makes only partial retractions of these statements likely to shield against potential criticism while still ultimately planting these initial impressions of Lucas in the minds of many viewers. Besides their prequel reviews, the people behind RLM have displayed a rather shallow and narrow understanding of Star Wars in general and the stories Lucas wanted to tell. In their review of the Last Jedi, they argued that Star Wars doesn't lend itself to anything more than the original trilogy and or the Empire vs Rebels conflict. They’ve even compared the idea of having other stories within Star Wars to making an expanded universe out of Back to the Future, which is a considerably different franchise and universe. Yet they were still audacious enough to act like they understood Star Wars better than the very man who created it.

I'm glad that Plinkett, and Prequel Hate in general, is fading more and more into obscurity. I think that after the the bullying he incited against Ahmed Best and Jake Lloyd, he legit deserves to lose his channel. Even Simon Pegg, who also had a really annoying additude against the Prequels, but at least he did have the maturity to apologize to Ahmed Best when he realised it went too far.
