I spent literal hours explaining to my friends why reverse grip sucks,and they replied "It actually depends on the user,if their skills are good they can fight normally,and i think reverse grip is much better than all the other "styles" because it can block a lot more." Even at moments where I see something from actual history depicting reverse grip techniques (outside of shorter bladed weapons like daggers), I notice that it would be doable or preferable with a normal grip anyways. So essentially, try actual reverse grip techniques then see if they work just as well with a normal grip.

I actually looked up the history of reverse grip and I actually found out reverse grip was actually more used by assassins to kill enemies and hide the blades but not strictly sword combat but a katana may not work for it but a certain sword might one that is at least built for backhand and part of that study was actually done by somebody who studied light saber forms from Star Wars like star killer or Asoka

I feel like reverse grip is only viable for very niche situations, like using daggers as an emergency ice pick or putting more thrusting power behind your sword while holding someone in specific ways. It could also only be used by weapons designed to be used that way. But at that point, it isn't reverse grip

Reverse grip is for knives. Even then the only benefits you get is harder, better , faster, stronger stabbing and grappling. Even with those two benefits, it still decreases your range.

If reverse grip had to be used I'd imagine it's strength being full body rotation attacks, and aggressive/defensive regrouping. This the only way I'd personally see it being somewhat viable.

Reverse grip is a *very* situational thing, for almost strictly knives and daggers.

The only practical reverse grip I have ever seen was with someone who is a trained boxer and was out number. It kept people away until cops showed up since they had extra movement to avoid the fist and the knife.
