Found you guys a few months ago and have watched every episode. I had quiet an extensive collection before finding you but it has increased even larger. Thanks for that. You hear the sarcasm. LOL. My new favorites these days are Angels Envy Rye, High West American Prairie and Redbreast 12. Sorry Daniel, I just don't like Scotch. Even Monkey shoulder. I really like how you guys have dry week, you are unpretentious and just appreciate whiskey and life. It is very refreshing to see these days. I have a great idea for dry week. My boys (7 and 10) and I have been doing Root Beer tasting. We do it in the style of Daniel and Rex. We look at the amount of foam, we smell and then taste. We then give our opinions and have fun and laugh while doing it. It's been fun doing with them and believe or not there are a lot of subtle nuances we taste. Keep up the good work.

I've had Kaliber. As non-alcoholic beers go, it's pretty good. As BEERS go, it's pretty bad. I mean, I'd drink it before Coors or Red Dog (do they even make that anymore?)... but it would be low down on my list of choices were I given my druthers.

Tea/ coffee cigar and snack pairing! Maybe try to pair things that taste like the sort of notes you get from whisky and see if you can recreate the experience (doomed to fall short but it passes the time!)

At that point I would just quit drinking before I went the "Non-Alcoholic" route. I'd rather just have something normal like coffee, tea, or juice instead of something fake that'll just disappoint me.

could you water down new make to 0% and then age it and it be non alcoholic? would it "age" in a barrel with 0% alcohol?
@MajimeTV4 жыл бұрын
I use Arkay products at my job. I’m a barmaid at a full nude strip club and alcoholic beverages are prohibited, so we use these for those that like the taste. You’re supposed to add a splash of their “Alcohol-free finisher” which contains a bit of water and stir with a stirrer for the full flavor and alcoholic smell

Non-alcoholic whiskey or beer or decaffeinated coffee are things I will never understand. Have you guys ever thought of doing an episode or two on all the different red wines of varying types that are extra aged in Bourbon barrels? And even some that aren't, there's one called Hopes End that is insanely good.

Could you make non-alcoholic whiskey by distilling the finished product to a higher proof and using the non alcoholic stuff left behind?
@Quintinohthree4 жыл бұрын
A large part of the flavor of whiskey is given by volatile organics, which co-distill. You'd have to fractionally distill and take out the ethanol fraction, but there is a good chance you'll destroy the flavor with the heat. Vacuum distilling would be ideal to keep temperatutes down.

Right, I tried something similar. In sweden we have a long tradition of drinking distilled spirits as well. But instead of aging in oak barrels, people added spices and created Akvavit. The name comes from Aqua vitae, latin for water of life. But anyway, someone tried to market alcohol-free Akvavit. It was just spice flavoured water.
@doc81254 жыл бұрын
At least with norwegian Akevit, they are sometimes aged in oak barrels in addition to being spiced. And its a potato based at least in norway
@ChristianMadsen874 жыл бұрын
@@doc8125 there are some oak aged in sweden too. But not very long time. One of my favourite from norway is Linie Akvavit. It travels across the equator and back in barrels.

About Non-alcoholic beers: I've tried about a dozen different offerings (most of them German). As far as non-alcohlic beers go, Clausthaler alkoholfrei and Krombacher alkoholfrei are ok and probably available outside Germany. The industry is currently trying to convince us Germans that alcohol free wheat beer is an isotonic beverage, to be had after climbing, cycling or even football. So most breweries offer a non-alcoholic variant. However, I'd personally go for Kehrwieder - that stuff is amazing and the 'überNormalNull' (something like 'above altitude'? Probably completely off) is the best alcohol free beer I've ever had and one the few that are, in my mind, better than cheap alcoholic beers from other brands. Don't know if it is available.
@markvironda5 жыл бұрын

Best non-alcoholic beer for me is Bavaria. If you guys can find that, you should include it in your non-alc. beers episode!

The cayenne comments confused me, because cayenne hits more front of the tongue for me versus a habanero or strong jalapeno hitting the back of my throat. The rule I've always known is the hotter the pepper, the further back in your mouth and throat you will feel the burn.
@karl_alan5 жыл бұрын
Wonder if you could make a good, non-alcoholic whiskey by taking something like a pear cider for scotch, or a merrichino cherry spiked cider (with a little peanut butter mixed in) for bourbon, or pickle juice and anise for rye; and then barrel aging for months or years...

After the Flood, God saw Noah acting pretty foolish as a result of a few too many skins of new wine, and so he spent a few years developing a really great non-alcoholic beverage. This divinely inspired drink is called in the Hebrew מים, and it restores spent strength, gives life to the dying, and has nothing in it that tastes like the burn after you throw up. This elixir of life, this heavenly boon to those suffering during dry week, is in English called "water". It's good stuff.

That would actually be a great product to try to make. If you used peated malt and maybe a bit of honey and orange peel and ginger with a touch of maybe allspice and black pepper. Then soak that with some charred oak cubes you should have a nice little whiskey or whiskey sour type drink. the ginger makes it burn your sinuses, the pepper makes it numb your tongue, the allspice gives it a depth of scent. the honey and orange give it body and the peat makes it tastes "scotchy" I'm thinking like non-alcoholic Laphroaig. You won't notice the alcohol missing if you're getting gang-banged by peat smoke. Also the genius part is that it never had alcohol to begin with- so it's not "non-alcoholic whiskey" it's just a beverage that happens to taste like whiskey and you can give it away, ship it anywhere, sell it to kids....
@Shadx275 жыл бұрын
Though only thing I can think of for this is a stand in when doing filming. Can't have actors drunk, but actors need to react to the drink. Does this make you cough, or shake, or etc like you just had a strong drink (even though it is not nearly as good).
@migueltodd85393 жыл бұрын

You guys didn't even try mixing it. If someone has at least one tastebud they could probably tell it's not whisky drinking it straight. I'd be interested to know if it adds any "whiskeyness" to coke, coffee, old fashioned, etc. Do an episode to find the best non-alcoholic beverage (that you think might be alcoholic.

My Wife and Mother-in-Law buy this crap by the case. Step Father is having health and dementia issues. Gets pretty mean on the real stuff. Even so I am totally NOT cool with this. We took his license, she's taking his dignity, I want absolutely nothing to do with taking his drink. Now the final insult... my Wife said It's now going for $50 per bottle. Hell, if only I were smart enough to invent a new molecule.... Only mine would skip the tongue and go straight for the wallet. I'd call it the leach molecule. Funny story, in-laws just moved into a new house on our property, got new appliances. F-I-Law was shocked at how well the new appliances performed. I asked him why, and he said this is the first freezer he ever had that was cold enough to freeze his whiskey. Maybe the dementia is worse than I thought.
@Solar7505 жыл бұрын
I love that the creator thought his kid was drunk because he just wanted the "taste of alcohol". I may or may not have consumed as a minor, and no one was doing it for the taste. It was done to get drunk!!! Oh the lengths we'll go to ignore the truth and pretend our kids aren't responsible for their decisions.
