The Hog Pan is a solid piece of equipment. Doc said that the cost of the aluminum he uses for it and other parts continues to go up. He doesn't want to keep raising the price on it to his customers. To still offer a similar concept as the Hog Pan, he designed the Con Box conversion kit for the Flow Pan. The good news is that it is a big difference in overall weight between the two pans but the Flow Pan with Con Box conversion kit is just as solid.

Wandering Buffalos Prospecting I am 71 years old and have no problem shaking it 3/4 full of material in the water. It is cool watching the water come up from the bottom of the Hog Pan and fluidize. And in spite of the slots in the bottom, it does not lose any gold in the process. I am awed at the amount of really fine gold it recovers. I honestly do not know what kind of "Doc" Steven Vetter (his real name) is, but he is one sharp cookie. I am going to say possibly a PhD in mechanical engineering, but I don't know for sure. He does not brag about his background, but his results speak for themselves. I suspect he is very much a private person. He delivers a solid, honest, fairly priced, no bullshit product, and that is very rare in this day and age.

Its definitely a great point to have it assembled how you plan to use it before you go out in the field. I dropped a few bolts and wingnuts just standing there and had to find them, lol. Thanks for your comment!!!

Seriously, I will say the man knows his stuff and has willingly shared information not only on his products, but for generally educating all prospectors and miners. He is one of the sharpest people in the field.

Thanks Chris - ECP - Prospector2107. After we release the field testing video we are going to put out one controlled testing video with flow pan & the con box. The plan is to put a specific amount of gold and see how much of a loss as well as see how much it takes a full bucket of material down between the two. We want to see the difference in gold loss and if the conversion is really needed. Like most prospecting equipment, conversions and other types of equipment are not needed by everyone but still may have their place for some prospectors and miners. We will put the screws to the Flow Pan and Con Box in the controlled testing videos for sure.

As Doc has explained in his recent video, rising prices of aluminum stock plus welding and labor means Doc can no longer make a profit on the Hog Pan without raising the price, which he does not want to do. Therefore, he is discontinuing the Hog Pan, so if you want one, buy it now! I think the Flow Pan with Con Box will do pretty much what the Hog Pan does. Frankly, the Hog Pan is great in the field with no screws or parts to get lost. It does come with a mat but, I do much better without the mat and get more material before having to empty it. I have a Flow Pan and just ordered the Con Box conversion but I will never give up my Hog Pan.

Bob Dip great question. We will try it out as you can buy solid sides for the flow pan for $29. After the field test we are also doing a controlled test with a gram of gold for the flow pan vs flow pan with con box. We will do a 3rd way to compare by closing off the sides to the flow pan itself without the con box to see what's really needed or works the best, the same or not at all. Thanks for the comment!

I have the Hog pan but the flow sides would make clearing a 5 gallon bucket faster
