Review of the Stetson Stratoliner Premier, purchased from JJ Hat Center NYC

This is a brief review of a couple hats I purchased from JJ Hat Center in NYC. I don't mention it in the video, but I purchased these online after watching a ton of Kevin's videos. My experience with ordering both was excellent. Their online salesperson is Benji and he's been very timely and helpful in our communication. I highly recommend them if you're looking for a hat.
As I say in the video, there just aren't enough different views of products that fit into niche interests. This is my contribution to the hat lover community.
I also use barefoot shows and may do some reviews on those if people express some interest.

I have a bunch of dress hats from JJ Hat Center NY. Simply the best hat shop. Thanks to their advice and support even online buying a hat from them is a fun experience.

Kevin at Hats and Guitars mis THE man when it comes to learning real stuff about all aspects of the hat trade. He loves the hats and loves sharing what he knows and showing how he can give new life to a good hat that has seen trials and tribulations in its life. Very good video.

Komme aus Germany, hätte eine Woche Urlaub in New York ,habe auch das JJ Hat Center besucht ud mir einen Hat gekauft. JJ Hat Center ist absolut Spitze, würde auch als German Urlauber sehr, sehr gut beraten !! Sehr zu empfehlen für Hat Liebhaber. ✔✔

Great idea for trimming those ribbon ends. I've avoided hats with thin ribbons because of the issue you described. 👍👍. Kevin @ JJ Hat's is amazing.

Rather than trimming the ends, u can use two tack stitches and just tack them down to the side of the crown, that’s something we do a lot for folks.

Kevin is legend and so humble. Bucket list stuff is visiting JJ Hat Center and have Kevin (if he’s available) fit me in a hat of his choosing.

The crushable or rollable concept of the Stratoliner started as a way for the traveler to look good on arrival in the earlier days of rough airline travel.

Thanks for the time you spent with this video. Good job on the flange adjustment. It took me a while, but I've become a fan of the upturned fedora brim, too. Too much flange is no bueno. I'm a Kevin fan, as well. I've bought a lot of Stratoliners from various vendors (JJ, Delmonico, and Stetson), but have been drawn to buying Stetston Temples for a while to fill out all of the possible colors that are available. (The light grey is my favorite.) I recently bought a black Stetson Metropolitan (which is basically a Temple in beaver felt) with a generous discount at JJ's because I wanted to see the difference between rabbit and beaver felt hats. The color options for Stetson beaver fedoras are limited, as you probably know. While I notice an improved thickness/quality difference between the rabbit and beaver felt, I'm not sold on whether the price difference is worth it. Anyway, thanks for your video. And too bad your wife doesn't like your hats. I'm not totally bald, but my thinning hair isn't my best attribute, so I wear hats all the time, even when I'm at home like Kevin does. I don't have anyone to complain. But you're lucky you have someone who does.

Interesting, I'm torn between the Temple and the Metropolitan. I've read that the Temple's brim has a tendency to curl badly. 🤔🤔

How did you flatten the flange on the fawn hat? Also is it fur or wool?

Both of the hats in this video are rabbit fur felt of differing thickness. It's not fully flattened, though that could be done. I softened it up with steam, from a kettle, turned the hat upside down and used the edge of the counter as a straight edge. I applied just a bit of pressure and let it cool. Once the felt cools the stiffener in the material hardens up again and will hold that shape. I went bit by bit around the brim till I was happy with it. Look up Kevin from JJ Hat Center here on KZfaq and he's got a ton of videos about how to manipulate your hat.
