so glad i could see the comparison, i think ill definitely go for the premier when i get one, the versatility of the open crown is so appealing plus the thicker more sturdy build to it. Ive got a alubra campdraft on the way in bluegrass green so id love a premier strat to go along with it

Great job on the videos. I've recently become interested in fedoras and your videos have been a spectacular help in identifying what's right for me. This a silver belly Stratoliner would be great to add contrast to the darker colors I wear in the fall. I am on the JJ Hat Center site and looking at the Stratoliner Premuim, where the photo shows an open crown. If I order online can the crown be shaped to a pinch front prior to being shipped out?

Yes .u check a box on the site. " Open crown' or "pinch front" those r the two standard options u can check when ordering.

Hey hey Kevin. Thanks for your channel and all the advice. I have the regular strat, one in felt and one in straw. They fit bigger than my Open Road which is a 7 3/8 and totally the perfect size👌. I pad the band of the 7 3/8 strat’s quite a bit and feel could go a size down with those to 7 1/4. Just wondering how the Premier strat fits compared to the regular strat? Does the thicker felt effect the fit a little? Fancy picking one up and have to order online due to location. Thanks for any input! Hard to answer this I’m sure without trying the hats on. Appreciated.

No difference in the fit between the models, but Stetson tends to be erratic w sizing, two hats of exactly the same model can fit the same, or one can fit looser, I’m general, they fit around true to size, but inconsistent many stetsons fit extra loose, others fit fine, it’s hard to predict. Sometimes a softer hat like a fedora can be more flexible than a harder,stuffer hat,like a western..because the softer hat will just flex more, it will appear to fit looser… but to a answer your question, no. Not really, but sometimes hats just run loose for no reason at all..

Hello kevin! The whippet is still not available..but the stratoliner premier looks awesome! Is it possible to get it in teardrop+ big band instead of that thin band?

Of course, the felt season starts in mid September, nobody gets felt shipments now, they only ship straws.. the Whippet never arrived last fall, we only got a small percentage of what we ordered, most likely they were shorthanded due to covid, you can easily get a wider band put on a Strat,it’s a common modification. U need to make sure the hat is in stock, then call the shop 800 622 1911 ask for Van, the hatmaker. 11:15 am - 5:00pm , during work hours. and tell him u want a wide band for the whippet, u can buy the hat and the band change itself, on the phone from him. U can discuss the color, width.. or tell him u want it to be the same bow and band as a whippet, and he’ll copy one exactly.

There is no Stetson hat called a Duotoni, I even tried google. Not a single mention of Duotoni or even Duotone . I can't help u without more information

Kevin.. i picked up the Stratoliner Hemp and wondering if any amount of stiffener will shape the brim or is it a flip only brim? I really like the shape of the brim just a tad lower in the front than natural vs all the way flipped down. Thx as always..luv the vids man

That's something u do without spray or steam, or anything. You just train the brim to snap flatter, it's not easy, but u can just start trying to be d it flatter by manipulating the brim w your hands.. there's a way to make that brim look flatter. Try snapping the front down, the regular way.. then w your hands on each side of the brim, firmly bend it upwards, evenly,like the whole front of the brim is one, flat plane. Grab that brim,(while snapped down) and try to shift it upwards and flatten it firmly,w your hands flat on each side..

U can also try putting weights on the front of the brim, something small enough to fit inside the scoop of the brim,on the whole front of it. Without the weight touching the bound edge,only the hemp part of the brim, not the edge. As heavy as u can..pile em up Put the weights on it while brim is snapped up.add as much weight as u can..keep a bandana or hanky between the hat and weights..let the front of the brim flatten like that overnight..

Digging the premier!! I tried on the Regular Stratoliner and I felt it was to low in the crown for me. Will these be on your website? Curious of the color options.

Also what is the crown height on the Premier? The regular Stratoliner has a 4 1/2'' Crown.

@@bartthatcher5799 it's much higher, kind if a high crown, but can be lowered to any height u want. I don't believe in measuring crowns on dress hats, until very recently, dress hat crown heights weren't ever listed anywhere. Where do u measure? The highest point? Lowest point? It varies the crown is shaped like an arc. Plus, after steaming it in shape, I can give u any height u want.. so it's irelevant But in general the premier is high, don't get it if u like a low crown...it's generally better shaped high, or western,or with a teardrop.. if u like a low crown,the SE is made for that..

I like to have my hats sit closer to the top of my ears for some reason. When I make my mind up I'll be in touch. Thanks again.

I have, maybe, a stupid question. How often can I reshape my Strat? After wearing, I push the crease out and store it in it's box.

If u have a crease steamed it it, don't pop it out... but If u purchased it open crown,and it's not steamed at all..? then u can open it up for storage, the way you're doing. The answer to your question is.."as little as possible" I don't think u should mess with it unless u see a problem that bothers u.. otherwise, just use packing tape to remove lint, and brush it counterclockwise occasionally.. Steam it as infrequently as possible, just do it if it looks under the weather.. It's like shining your shoes..do it when it needs it. Very infrequently..

Are the premiers any better in the rain then a special edition? My special edition tapered and shrank a bit after half an hour in a moderately heavy rain

Generally they are much thicker, almost twice as thick, and the felt is better, but that's the first time I've heard that.. usually it'll take heat, like a hot room to actually shrink felt.. That's very unusual. did u buy it at JJ's? I'd say the felt is rain proof. More typical are wavy Brims on a Premier..never,ever heard a single case of shrinking

They are rain proof but can get wavy in the brim after a hard rain..I don't remember that ever happening. But the SE can get a bit wavy in the brim at worst.maybe take a photo, send it to Stetson/Hatco see what they say ?

ottoman1755 yes, if u feel like shape by it yourself, or we can steam in a Center crease, to set the height, and from there u could change it to pinch front, teardrop, open road or porkpie, using the center crease as a jumping off point, shaped this way, the only thing u can’t really do is open crown, if u feel u might go open crown too, then forget the center crease and order it open. it is a high hat though, so getting a nice teardrop will tame that high crown,if that bothers u..

I can't see it well enough. Clips are quick. Flat, wide brim with a pencil curl,like a Stetson Boss Raw, new model. I forget the name, it's Stetson. Something w the word Amish in it, it'll come to me, lead singer us wearing our Stetson Tycoon,( basically a Stetson Shasta 10x)

I pamper my Pure Stratoliner in the color Alabaster I was gifted from wifey for Father's day 2022. It has it's own homemade silk bag that it gets stored in while I'm out dining at a restaurant. I would never set my hat down Anywhere. I want to keep in as clean & protected as possible. I would never set in any table unprotected. I'm anal like that. I waited too long to get one, mama taught me to take care of my things when I was child. Angel from The Bay

Yes, don’t get it wet either. Those hats are 100% unavailable . So hold on to it, good job . Although u should know, most stains can be buffed out with the proper sanding block in case u ever need it done
