A LOOK at My First Stetson- Stratoliner

JJ hat center is having an early Black Friday. 20% off the entire store. Talk about Super generous. It started on I believe Wednesday and will continue until many of the styles and sizes are going to be depleted. (sorry this sale is currently over, but they do continue to have great sales from time to time)
This is a Stetson Stratoliner in the color Caribou (Grey) with a slightly darker grey satin western band / ribbon. This version is the SE (Special Edition). I thought the SE meant different ribbon colors, but maybe the grey is a little darker than the version that in on the Stetson website.
Size is a 7 5/8 and its a little bit bigger than the wool Fedoras Ive received from Goorin. But boy is it a stunning hat and I'm glad that I picked it up on a deal and will have many years of good times under it.

I recently bought a whippet in Caribou and love the color. I really wanted the stratoliner like yours but they didn't have any in caribou. The hat looks good on you, enjoy!

I've many hats over the years, those Stetson's are a class act. Very well made and when you get your size close they're not kidding Stetson fits.

Stetson is a major step up from the Goorin hat. While I like to wear my hat a bit larger wear it comes barely over my ears, that hat on you looks like a perfect fit as most wear their hats. I sport a 14” beard and compete in beard growing contests, and I love the look of a fedora with the beard. It work great in any competition to complete the look with the beard. The Stratoliner is the absolute perfect hat for you, and for me. I have the exact same hat in Caribou with a cream band and edge trim; I paid a little extra and had them put on a 1.5 grosgrain band in cream so it looks much more like your Goorin hat. Yours looks great, and thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing all of that. Yeah, beards and hats go together like cake and ice cream for a birthday. Both were more popular a 100 years ago and both are cool face accessories. I know a lot of guys that can only dream of a 14” beard. 👌🏼ROCK ON!

Thanks Albert. I’m pretty sure you will be happy with your Strata-liner. I think a Stetson is the perfect quality. Cheaper hats are just cheaper looking. If there is any type of video you want to see, I could make a video on it or point you to the info. Just let me know.

I watched a lot of KZfaq videos on it and wanted it there’s the Premier one too (thicker) I almost was going for that too but the crease is never the same

it was always between the stratoliner or the open road. O.R. is one step more different if you’re not use to a hat. One thing I did hear about the open road is that it has a shallower crown. it’ll probably be the next hat I look at though. just got a new hat accessory. I’m going to be making a short video.

@@teakey if you buy the royal deluxe it is softer and easier to fit with the shorter crown. JJ health center has a video about this issue. If you get the 6X open road that is stiffer you simply steam the center dent so that it’s softer and you can pull it down further on your head.

panama brad thanks my man. saw a beautiful already hand shaped tear drop Premier in a light brown on Ebay but it slipped pass me by the next bid up but the price got up there. Amazon has what looks to be a great price on the premier whether it’s legitimate.

They use different Hat Cones for different Models for Stetson Hats. Stratoliners have 3 different Models in fur felt. They also make them in Milan Hats.

Somehow I never saw this until now. I believe I know why the “wrong hat” arrived in the box. Different stores are using different terms. Delmonico and others apply the term “special edition” only to the two-toned Stratoliner. Order the “special edition” from them, and you will receive a two-toned hat-the ribbon and trim being a different color than the rest of the hat. But JJ Hat Center applies the term “special edition” to both the two-tone and the mono-tone Stratoliners. If you order from JJ, you need to specify that you want the version with two tones. I have one of each, both from JJ Hat Center, both magnificent hats. It has an amazing ability to dress both up and down, depending on what you are wearing.

Unsolved mysteries have been solved. Yeah you could be right there. you would think if they actually did have two choices they would have a little drop-down box. I was fairly certain there was just the one choice of special and I think they had a picture showing a two-tone at the time. as I remember it was still a pretty good deal. This was a couple years ago now though. I do love this hat. it fit a little loose at the time I bought it but I think my head got fatter and now all my other hats are a little tight and this one is just right.

Looks great, almost bought a Stratoliner in Italy, but ended up buying another Panizza, I definitely will be getting one of these at some point, nice to see what type of box JJ hats sends. Hope your happy with this one or you think you will return it as they sent the wrong one?

Jabba the Hat I think there are two different grey versions. Can’t really say which one is better than the other but this one is more expensive supposedly and more rare. I’m super happy with it wish it was a little tighter on my head out of the box but I’ve got to find my sizing kit I have somewhere.

is Stetson SE is a fur hat, not a wool hat. As I recall it is mostly a rabbit fur and then a little of something else.

The bow always tells u where the back of your hat is because when it is off it should be resting on its crown not on the brim

This hat is the Stetson Stratoliner I think Stetson is pretty good quality. It is like a rabbit fur felt.

I just purchased a Stetson whippet in caribu from Muldoons. It's on it's way. I'm curious as to why the hat was only 90$ from muldoons when it was priced at 200$ on the Stetson website?? Anyone?

Are older ones worth anything,? My grandfather left me his stratoliners and 5 that say Dobs fifth avenue New York. Idk anything about hats. Lol.

Sure. I would say they’re worth at least as much as the new ones. the new ones have gone up in price slowly over the years with inflation. Of course they’re at least a couple hundred dollars I would say if it’s in good shape you could get some money out of it, or keep it because it was your grandfathers. anything that is old and in great shape is more rare. Rare= more valuable.

@@teakey Lol yeah I'm keeping them. I just seen new ones are like 300 bucks. 100-300. I was wondering cause mine are gathering mad dust sitting on the book shelf. Lol. I should prolly get them cleaned and find hat boxes. Those old dobbs hat boxes are pritty cool. But if they were 20$ hats, I wasnt going to invest the money into thee project. Thanks man.

it’s a gray but I think it’s called Caribou? something special was about this one from JJ‘s hat center (online) regarding the trim. also this one might be called a special.

Stetson stratoliner fedora hat is a crossover of a dress hat and cowboy hat is a dress hat is a 1940s style call the whippet the ready made hats are made with thinner materials the all felts hats are the cheapest, poorly made, fit badly? they will shrink, when wet, no leather hat band with no liner? the better made hats are rabbit felts the all time best hats come from the 1940s rare all beaver felts, leather hat band, satin liner sell for a high price if you can find one? Whippet style all beaver is the best sellers of all time the mostly come in white or gray black and browns are hard to come by crossover hats are the best because you ware distressed out fits and look, ok? wheelchair larry
