Review: the Schüler Reform pistol - a 4-barrel German "revolver"

Here's an interesting old interpretation on revolvers. Rather than using a rotating cylinder, the hand raises a stacked barrel assembly, advancing through four rounds of 25acp. Information about these is pretty spotty. About all I know is that they were made for a few years in the 1910s.

The sights are only supposed to be used for the first and second shot. Every subsequent shot should be aimed with the most recently cleared barrel, thus keeping the sight picture closer to the active barrel. Ok, so I don't actually know this to be the case, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

As each barrel is cleared, you could sight through the one right above the hammer spur. Very cool gun.

Don't use superglue on that screw, use Threadlock. If you superglue it, you will have serious difficulties getting that screw out later. Threadlock is designed to hold but be removable.

These are cool pistols and filled an interesting niche. The first time I ever saw one was in High School (1970's) while visiting a friends house. They had it hanging on their wall in a frame. I asked them if they would sell it but it turns out it was used by their grandmother for self-protection as a young single woman and she carried it in her garter along her thigh! The more i looked at it, the more I realized this was a perfect pistol for a garter carry. It was very THIN. It was very LIGHT. And it was simple to operate. She would likely pull it out to show she meant business, fire it if they didn't believe her and then run like hell after you emptied the thing - reloads not being an essential part of the story! I wanted one ever since but they have always collectible and $$$. The early models have a scalloped side and a larger safety lever. Hopefully I will find one someday that I can pickup for a good deal also! Thanks for the video - just love that shell case deflecting hammer! is there a pin hole in the adjacent (being fired) lower barrel that allows gas to enter and propel the empty case out? Seems like a pretty strong ejection :- )

Its a Belly gun, not meant for long range shooting. This gun would be 3 to 5 yards so just point and shoot. Interesting design though.

I had no idea such an unusual revolver existed, the way it moves up rather than around like most revolvers is very cool :)

That is a very interesting firearm. If I was alive 100 years ago, I would consider that a rather good pistol to carry. Looks like you can use the exposed barrels as an aiming device when you get into the 3rd round or so.

I really like your videos about neat, rare and interesting guns. Hell, even your beretta 92 is kinda odd (I know, it's only an early model, but still, I'm much more used to the 92fs). Also your pronunciation of "breveté" is pretty much spot on, and I should know, I'm french. Sometimes I wish someone would make a FPS set in the 1920s-30s and hire you as a consultant, because I just want to frag other people with dardicks, dreyses and lancaster smgs. Mayeb call it postmodern warfare or something.

Pretty cool. I could be wrong, but it seems like it would be a fairly simple task for a good gunsmith to fix the single action mechanism. I doubt that there is too much going on in there. I wouldn't mess with it myself either though probably.

I would redesign the Schuler brevete pistol so instead of having a rising block, it has a rising/graduating firing pin instead and preferably double action trigger mechanism.

I have one of these although from what you've said it's nowhere near original condition. My father got it from his father who supposedly got it from a pawn shop in Colorado. He had this Reform pistol along with a Sharps 4 barreled pistol with a revolving hammer. It has what appears to be brass plating and has pearl stocks. It looks like a piece a real Jim Dandy kind of guy might carry while gambling. I was told by a dealer at a gun show that the word on the left side of the pistol was the French word meaning pistol.

Nothing revolving here, so I believe the proper terminology for this pistol would be a battery gun. That seems to fit it better than calling that a magazine, since the rounds actually fire from that part of the pistol.
@TrevourAJones
@TrevourAJones 11 жыл бұрын
I just find them through googling image terms like; weird revolvers, high capacity revolvers, multi-shot revolvers, unique revolvers and such. When you find a picture of a gun you like, click on it to go to the website and search for it's name. Once you have it's name, its a lot easier to research it.

There was one sold on Gunbroker about a year ago as an antique and believe it or not it was fully functional and it didn't go for much more $300 I was not intrested in it because I already own 2, 25auto revolvers there velodog type style but there definitely more practical options for a real deep hidden concealment than this thing they both have the folding trigger mechanism that was very much the main design for these things.. I am really amazed that they are going for that much.. I think I should have bid on it now🤣 😂hearing this... I also had seen the Baur 4shot 25acp little flip over cartridge pistol recently going on Gunbroker aswell not really sure what it had gone for but it was on there recently as well.. and who said that the 25auto and 32auto cartridges wouldn't be good little revolver rounds cause their only semi rimmed?? 😉😉
