Hello everyone hope you will enjoy this short where i talk about Rhaenrya and Daenerys Targaryen and how the Targaryen revolutionaries are represented in their respective TV shows made by HBO.
Sorry if this video is a little lacking in editing compared to the others i was very busy this week and could not focus on it as much as i wanted to... That said i am very excited to say that my next video will be about Aemond Targaryen and i can't wait to start working on it.

At least Dany tried, I'll give her that. Tried to make amends every now and then, but Rhaenyra, thanks to her father just letting her get away with things without consequence, just let's go of tradition, culture and duty for her personal desires. Wasn't till the end she tried to make compromise between Duty and Desire, so I'll give her some credit there...

Were you not paying attention how Rhaenyra proposed marriage between her son and Alicent’s daughter to unite them? And how she thank Alicent for her loyalty to her father? And lastly, how she refused to go to war even when her counsel is pushing her to? 👀

@@raf3765 Keep in mind, Jaecerys is a bastard so, his claim is already, well... precarious, to say the least. And it was a last ditch effort to increase whatever lack of claim she had left. Danaerys tried in Mereen. She still made horrible mistakes like crucifying the slavers without trial. However, the clip that was shown where Danaerys at least listened to the argument of opening up the the fighting pits shows that she was willing to make some compromises as she realized that the people she was going to be ruling all have different motivations for their lives.

I don't think it's fair to criticize danys essos arc because they buthured it by over simplifying it and removing key moments about it like how dany actually rules as a queen and how she's trying to make peaceful change and compromise with the masters , her problem isn't that she's trying to force change ( there isn't really any other way to abolish slavery without force ) her problem is she's compromising with people who refuse to compromise and refuse to Let go of there evil practice in the name of self preservation , the show fucked up her arc her problem wasn't that she was to aggressive but that she wasn't aggressive enough she needed to put her foot down or the master's will walk all over her and the slaves.

İ agree with some of this. Yes the showrunners dumbed down Daenerys' arc and political decisions in the show. But they did the same for Rhaenyra. This is why in the begining of the video i said i would only be focusing on the show versions of these two characters. This being said i think that Daenerys' mistake was not that she didn't use enough force but that she didn't understand the history and culture of Meereen and why slavery came to exist in the first place. Like what is going to happen after she and her dragons leave. Will the future rulers of Meereen try to reestablish slavery again? What's stopping them from doing it? What kind of political system will she establish? The show did not care to answer these questions unfortunately... But at least they showed that she had a better understanding of things than Rhaenyra.

@@smokingmirror8482 that again goes back to the show butchering her Marren arc because the books have her navigate through all of this like how she plants tree to grow food , hosting cort with nobles and commoners , creating a system that discourages slavery they removed all of this and just had her standing or sitting around occasionally holding court or threatening to kill the masters danys tv self was just butchered is the explanation essentially.

@@thatoneblackdude3333 you should read "Untangling the Meereenese Knot", published in 2013. They're a series of essays on Dany's Meereen plot and her last chapter in ADWD. One of the main points of the essays is that Dany *actually* succeded in Meereen, politically-wise. She achieved peace, even at a significant personal cost (marrting Hizdar, chaining Rhaegal and Viserion). But that's not enough. Her entire mind is set on ruling Westeros: Dany doesn't *want* to plant trees in Essos, she stayed in Meereen because she was tired and wanted a rest from fighting in Astapor and Yunkai. Her failure is that she wanted to rule but had no true desire to stay, build something bigger (in her final ADWD chapter she reminds herself that she is a dragon and 'dragons plant no trees'). It's no so much that the masters did not want to compromise, but that she is not willing to stay there long enough to impart real change. What will happen in Meereen when she leaves? Most likely they will end up like Astapor and Yunkai, or they will be completely destroyed. That being said, I think both Rhaenyra and Daenerys ultimately fail because you cannot make a revolution for one. Rhaenyra does not believe women shoud have the same rights as their male sibilings: she believes *she* should have precedence over her half-brothers (on the show, when Rhaenys talks to a young Rhaenyra and says the lords of westeros will never recognise a ruling queen, she answers "no, they didn't chose you"). Same thing happens to Dany, she doesn't set up to free people across Essos, in fact she's pretty much OK with slavery (she's surrounded by slaves at Illyrio's place, the dothraki also keep slaves) up until she cannot buy Unsullied. Why should she have to make such sacrifices in the name of duty towards Meereen, the city she decided to rule, or Essos, the only continent she truly knows?

I cannot avoid to think that Rhaenyra to some extent is just dumb. I mean sure, she is REALLY entilted, but her children is just a plain DUMB thing. Was it that hard to send someone to Lys, get her a boy-toy from there and have him doing her children? Or at least a man with black hair and long nose? They could say that they have Rhaenys looks and have plausible deniability.

The Dragon does what it wants 🤷‍♂️ Rhaenyra has every right to sleep with whom she wants and bear his children. She was forced to marry a sword swallower because her father was pissy about his brother getting jiggy with his niece. The Dance/Death of the Dragons happened because the Targaryen’s ignored their own tradition in favor of lesser beings. If Viserys simply ignored the opinions of leeches and ignored his personal feelings he’d have either A. Never announced a new heir because he’s young (at least in the books) and just let Daemon be his heir Or B. Marry Rhaenyra to Daemon and their Son Aegon… would be the undisputed heir… which ends up happening anyways 🤦‍♂️

what Dany should have done in slavers bay, was take all the slavers hostage, and interview them, and interview their slaves. Find out which old slaver family is the most amenable to ending slavery, or atleast cutting back significantly on the brutality. Killing a few of their biggest rivals, and establishing them as a new puppet monarchy.

People say Rhaenrya would be a bad ruler because she lies about her children. How does that reveal her competemce as a ruler? Plus Rhaenrya wouldn't rule alone. She like every other King would have a council of advisors to council her. And we know that in the show Rhaenyra listens to council. From what we have seen so far in the show, I don't see how you can come to the conclusion that Rhaenyra would make a bad Queen. She sat for years on her Father's council. She knows the politics of Westeros, she knows the economics. From what we have seen in the show, she would make a good monarch. You just don't like her personality and morality.
@smokingmirror8482
@smokingmirror8482 Жыл бұрын
The fact that she chose to have bastards in the first place kind of makes her look like an idiot. And the fact that she refuses to admit to it even tho everybody can see it makes her look even more so. The problem with Raenyra is that she ran away from King' Landing in the worst moment possible. She left just as harwin did which made them look even more sus and allowed Alicent and Otto to have full control over King's Landing. Also her sitting in the small council does not mean she would make a good ruler or that she knows westeros well. Viserys sat in the small council often yet his politcal skills did not improve because of it. Ned Stark sat in the small council yet he never fully understood the politics of the Red Keep and failed to see how things turned against him. İ don't think it is fair for you to accuse me of disliking Rhaenyra because of her personality and morality considering the fact that she is very similiar to Daenerys and Daemon two characters i like quite a bit and i used to like Rhaenyra for a similiar reason when she stabbed the hell out of that boar in episode 3. To be she lost her fire after that. What i don't like about Rhaenyra are her decisions... she just isn't very good at making and one of the main themes of the book for her is that she nherited her father's indecisiveness something we see in the council in episode 10 and that i hope the show will change in season 2. Because words cannot express how much i loved the war in Rhaenyra's eyes at the end of the season. İf she wants to be a good Queen she rly needs to learn to be more decisive.

08:13 No it doesn't if the Targaryens rulled as Valyria did in the Freehold where people like Maegor and Visenya were the norm rather then the exception. The problems with the Targaryens is that they tried to play nice with cultures they conquered thinking everyone could be friends. Well no that's not how life works. Not in planetos and not in the real world. If you brutally conquer someone then try and be friends with by pretending the bad stuff you did didn't happen... at somepoint someone will make attempt on your life or your power to try and take back there freedom. Just look Alexander's the empire. He committed extreme brutally when as he conquered his way across the former persian empire and India. Then he tried to make make subjects and his own people all be friends. The end goal was to make everyone one people. That ended in him more than likely being poisoned and his empire being carved up then forcibly hellenized by his generals that were affectively racist rigid class systems.
