The show Rick and Morty is one heck of a ride. The characters are tossed between an infinite number of realities, planets and dimensions which is enough to give you whiplash from the comfort your living room, or more realistically the bed you haven’t left in days. Because the characters jump between parallel universes, fans of the show have developed multiple theories about hidden plotlines that the Adult Swim writers created, but are hidden to the commoners eye. One theory that is the crown jewel of Reddit is that EVIL MORTY is actually Rick’s ORIGINAL Morty. Though it may seem far fetched, fans say there in plenty of evidence that supports this claim. They posit that the photos of Rick holding Morty don’t make sense because Rick was gone for the first twenty years of Morty’s life, that Evil Morty has a vendetta against Rick that seems personal, and that in the opening scene of the series we are actually seeing Rick trying to get rid of the original evil Morty. Though there are an infinite number of hidden plotlines that could be playing out in this complicated universe, we have reason to believe in the show we are following the Rickest Rick, but maybe not the Mortyiest Morty.

Doofus rick is actually acting, he canonically is part of a cult of rejected ricks that conspire agaisnt tge citadel to summon a evil god rick. Rick ptime is the rickest rick. Doofus jerry is the jerriest jerry due to recent evidence that power really shows he would be corrupted FAST.

When ricks wife died he went to an alternate reality where his wife was still alive, leaving the original beth and her family behind. That memory of morty as a child is in the other reality but then came back to c-137 to continue his life. Evil morty is the morty that he left in the reality where his wife survived

Rick left Beth when she was little and only came into her life again a year before the series started. So which baby Morty is Rick holding in the memory images? Why was Rick crying when he saw that picture of baby Morty?

@@antonackermann9620 It's entirely possible he came to visit and see Morty without Beth knowing. The guy has a portal gun. I always took that picture in Birdperson's house as evidence that Rick did just that, that he never truly abandoned his daughter. He was watching over her. Given that Rick and Birdperson are considered terrorists by the galactic government, it makes sense that he would disappear to keep her safe.

One problem with this is that Rick can't have a Morty from the same universe as him, considering the fact that his Beth (and Diane) were killed by another Rick, meaning Morty was never born.

Rick also says that he will explain when Morty is older meaning that he doesn't want Morty to realise his potential or become too cocky. Perhaps this is why he constantly belittles Morty and never praises him despite him having a capacity to learn complex things for example how to disarm a neutrino bomb. I think this theory may have even happened before due to Rick saying a cocky Morty isn't good for anyone or something similar at least, I don't know why he would say it unless he knew that the Morty controlling the Rick was doing so unless he did and could foresee the fact that Morty being in power would ruin the council of Ricks or so he could show up and say I told you so.

@@Thiccjimbobway OH this made me remember something Ok since our Rick (C-137) comes from a universe where Beth and his wife died, that means that the universe that the show starts on in episode WOULDN'T BE Earth C-137, and henceforth our Morty wouldn't be from Earth C-137, and just believes he is due to him hearing Rick that he's "Earth Rick C-137". Either that OR our Morty IS from Earth C-137, and Rick is considered to be "Earth Rick C-137" because he mainly resides there... But I don't think that that second part makes sense. So I think that Morty is NOT from Earth C-137, but instead just THINKS that he is. Unless this was confirmed in the show or something IDK. But your comment made me remember that, sorry if this comment is hard to follow- I'm not really proofreading as I go.

Mr. Q evil morty used slow rick to get into the citadel then abandoned him like rick abandoned morty. in order to become a part of the citadel they had to come in pairs. if a morty didnt have a rick he went to school but if a rick didnt have a morty he would get a new one. thus a morty would have to willingly leave his rick. (slow rick) in order to avoid being sent to the school himself.

Hugh Jarse There’s no actually conclusive evidence that he’s actually controlling him with the eyepatch that’s just the assumption that everyone is making. Or it could be a cyborg controlling a cyborg hence the “Ive seen this technology before” comment Rick makes. This isn’t actually what I think happened but it could be a viable theory.

@Zachary Kariotis You're correct, this isn't up to opinion. Watch the episode again, those wires and circuits were attached to brain matter. You can clearly see pink under the wires and circuits, if Evil Rick was a robot, he wouldn't have pink brain matter. Based off of the actions of the Rickest Morty, he probably defeated and implanted these wires and circuits into his brain so he could control him.

My theory based off new episodes is that: After Rick couldn't find the alternate Rick that killed his wife and daughter, he went on a hunt. He found a Morty, as seen in the first scene of the pilot, got emotional and drunk, and accidentally left and stranded him on a planet. This is all proven in the first scene of the pilot. The Morty has black sneakers on, and still does on the planet, and even while being chased by frogs. However, after that, his shoes are white. So basically Rick tried to find a grandson, stranded him, and found a new one. Little did he know that the Morty chased by frogs would survive and become evil seeking revenge in hatred.

you forgot "you could achieve the same effect with a few morties and a jumper cable, i fiddle around with the concept but i would never do it". fast forward to his memory of a morty with jumper cables being electrocuted. if that was the morty we are familiar with he would have likely called rick on the electrocuting him. also evil morty specifically targeted the rick we know implying some sort of past between them.

I also noticed that. Rick stated that he just played with that concept in writtten, that he never actually created a Morty Shield. So if Evil Morty is Rick’s Morty that will make sense on how Evil Morty had this idea in the first place. He probably remembered it and decided to build it instead of just leaving written.

INSIDE INFORMATION: EVIL MORTY IS UNTOXIC MORTY(from another universe) in one universe, untoxic Rick and Morty remained untoxic(never released their toxic versions). Untoxic Morty became very smart and confident. in that universe, When untoxic Morty killed untoxic Rick, he started becoming "Evil Morty"... Hint 1: "our" Rick never knew there was an Evil Morty or an Evil Rick. thats why he was surprised to find their base. Hint 2: similar characteristics, attitude, tone of voice, and demeanor with untoxic Morty and President of Citadel Morty.

Do you remember a point stated that "morty brain waves cancel rick brain waves", that way Rick C-137 was able to stay hidden....but now that the original morty had become so intelligent rick had to find ways to fix his camo and ended up getting a new morty.

I doubt it. The Morty we know has been identified as and has identified himself as Morty C137 at least once each. IIRC, he's also declared himself as the Mortiest Morty in another episode after Rick declares it for him.

I'm late at the party, but there's this one episode in season 3 where they decided to go through Morty's Mindblowers. One of those memories included Morty blowing his candles on his 13th birthday, before Morty threw the candles on Rick's face because he wanted the cake (which annoys Rick and had him remove the memory). Funny thing is that in the first few episodes of season 1, it is implied that Rick had just came back to them, and Morty (as said on S1, Ep2) is already 14. Beth also mentioned in season 1 that Rick "left her and her mom". So... Idk if the baby photo on Bird Person's house, Rick's memory of holding Baby Morty while held hostage by Evil Rick, and the erased memory of Morty's 13th birthday are an implication that they are in fact "Evil Morty"... But who knows?

I think Rick already knows what is gonna happen to the Citadel and evil Morty so he is just letting it be which is also why he doesn't want anything to do with the Citadel. The real questions are: Why is Rick letting all of this happen? And what does he have under his sleeves? Is he trying prove/teach something to evil Morty? From what I seen Rick has a plan from just seeing what happened on his transition from finale of s1 and s2e1.

The first episode of R&M doesn't include evil morty because, as far we know, evil morty is smart and doesn't stutter. The episode includes morty stuttering several times and being slow. His parents say that he is performing poorly academically so this can't be evil Morty. My guess is that the first episode is Rick's first episode with Morty C-137

I agree with this theory but I think EM's past is off camera. I think the one that we've seen as C-137's Morty is not his original Morty, but I think Evil Morty is a Morty that got lost as a preteen.

Simple theory - season 1 episode 1 when rick took morty to get the seeds, when the monster attacked, they actually died that episode and the story shifted to a different pair .. notice the environment of the area the monster attacked vs the enviorment of the next scene .. 2 different areas!

One theory I have is the Vindicators 3 was not Rick and Morty C-137 but Evil Morty and his Rick and takes place before the end of season one. The reason why I think is is because Morty knew how to defuse Rick's bomb and claims to have done it many times before and his personality seemed saltier and nihilistic.

That episode quite obviously references heaps of continuity from the series including the whole 1 in every 10 rick and morty adventures is chosen by morty. Which most ricks wouldnt agree to cant imagine that this rick would do that twice in a row

One thing that may suggest that Mortys are clones (or it could be a plot hole altogether), is in the first Interdimensional Cable episode, when we see that there aren't many "Summers" in the different realities because in a lot of them Jerry and Beth didn't get hitched, yet, and we see in any episodes featuring the Citadel, that there are a LOT of Mortys, some "orphan" ones even since they are waiting for a Rick to "adopt" them, but why would there be so many Mortys if there are so few Summers?

Well the mortiest morty isn’t the most violent of all mortys, that is a characteristic of Rick, hence why rick is the way he is. The mortiest morty would be the most of who he really is, awkward, impressionable, easily manipulated, etc.

A very interesting theory, indeed. Though, I don't think that Rick meant to abandon Evil Morty in the first place. Maybe Evil Morty was beginning to become too intelligent to the point that he was becoming dangerous (as he said before: "a cocky Morty can give ya some serious problems"). It sounds a bit of an edgy and off theory but ya never know. He maybe was becoming afraid of him and got drunk in the very first episode of season 1 (as shown in the video) and somewhat expressed his way of fear but also kinda love which he might've ended up leaving him deserted on that one planet or something. Who knows? Maybe season 4 might explain it to us and maybe, just MAYBE, our theories could be true.

As you said in the ending, 1) because there are infinitive realities, there are infinitive possibilities. And because Slow Rick (Tall Morty) exists, clever (evil) Morty also exists. 2) in the first episode Morty is already used to Rick behaviour (and building a space machine isn't something special against travelling through dimensions which they do entire semester together - as was said in a school by principal Vagina). 3) Rick said to his Morty that he is the Mortiest Morty, why are you saying he didn't? 4) As Rick is the Rickest Rick - he is the most irrational one, so I don't think this version of Rick could possibly leave Morty which would turn him into evil. :3

I definitely think most if not all Mortys are clones. There seems to be an abundance of Mortys. In the intro we see packaged Mortys as a Rick chooses one over the other letting one fall. There’s Mortytown overflowing with Rickless Mortys and the school full of Mortys waiting to be assigned to Ricks. Also Rick was given a certificate for a Replacement Morty Certificate which suggests replacing a Morty is commonplace. I’m guessing Mortytown is comprised mostly from the Mortys that were found strapped naked to the hideout though some of them may have gone to the school. We know that Rick can easily clone anybody in three hours. But Evil Morty has to kill Ricks to steal their Mortys because he didnt know how to clone Mortys. I feel like this is why he looks through Ricks memories, I don’t think it was the only reason but I think it was one of the reasons. He needs to know how to clone Mortys and also if C137 is the Rickiest Rick maybe evil Morty is the Rickiest Morty. In the school we see slow Rick also called tall Morty. Who we could argue is the Mortiest rick. There is definitely some history between the Evil Morty and Rick C137. And Evil Morty could have gathered information from the other Ricks instead of just outright killing them but he wanted C137. Anyway I do think most Mortys are clones and probably why Ricks don’t really care about their Mortys and putting them in danger.

yes, good points, but ricks probably die a lot cause of dangerous experiments and all the felonious intergalactic activities that they've perpetrated their entire lives. so it's not too far-fetched to think morties would exist in relative abundance between the millions or billions of realities.

The happy baby morty was sick so rick made him a machine with all of ricks memories and was sifting through them to find something that was missing. Earth morty (c137) is the only morty rick can use against evil morty, which explains the way rick treats him, he wants morty to be strong enough and experienced enough to kill the morty rick loved from the beginning.

Rick says the line, it's natural the rickest Rick would have the mortiest Morty and everyone goes with that. However, would it not make sense that the Rickest Rick would also have the Rickest Morty. Rick hates Ricks so he abandoned/tried to take care of evil/rickest Morty after evil Morty did something terrible and adopted the mortiest Morty.

This is what I think, *totally didn't get this idea from a song*. But I think that Rick tried forming Morty into a genius and left for another Morty. And Evil Morty grew up all alone and wanted revenge on Rick, so he planned what he did to get revenge on Rick for leaving.

I do have a theory though not everyone may agree with me, but I believe Jessica, Morty’s crush is not exactly the person he thinks she is. There’s just something off about her, she seems a little too perfect and innocent. And if the theory in this video is correct, maybe Rick could’ve created Jessica as a means of keeping Morty emotional, by giving him a love interest to keep him more human, or Jessica could be another earth spy to keep an eye on Morty. Could be wrong, but hey ho.
