Nah... Hammerhead Morty's Rick is most likely a regular Rick. C137 Rick had it so Morty could transform into a car, right? In that episode, is it established that the Rick and Morty we were following originated from C137? If not, that whole episode could be following a different R&M. Meaning that there might be massive dimensional shifts for multiple pairs at once. Like Croninburg R&M or (if he was really another Rick) Fly Fishing Rick.

However, when the series starts Rick has just recently come back into their lives after being gone for years. It's a hint that Our Morty isn't C137. He's from a different Universe altogether. Most likely Rick C137 had to escape his home Verse and Our Morty's Verse was close enough except it's Rick died, allowing Rick C137 to slide into his dead counterpart's place. Also Morty NEVER refers to himself as Morty C137. When Morty bumped into Seal Rick Team 6 he referred to himself as Rick C137's Morty. Considering EVERYONE on the citadel knows that number, that distinction seems unneeded if our Morty is Morty C137.

The writers haven't even thought as far as to switch the one we follow as it would degrade the story. What you really see is the writers playing loose with continuity to mess with people.

Actually most of the time they do that as a really messed up joke, for example when Rick turned everyone into monsters by messing with their D.N.A therefore making rick and Morty go to a universe exactly like c137 but the Rick and Morty die as soon as they enter said universe (which is 100 percent possible since there are infinite universes) causing Rick and Morty to bury themselves referenced in a later episode. There's also episodes where they never mention it too. The whole idea is that you can't be sure which Rick and Morty you're following. And that's word of god from Roiland. It's part of the overall humour that you can be watching almost _any_ R&M if they don't explicitly state it.

True both say they are but Morty is a dumbass n Rick has never confirmed Morty to be C-137 Morty n more likely Evil Morty is C-137... Think about it... Everyone says Rick left 20 years ago but Rick has memories of baby Morty(who is obviously not 20+), Evil Morty seems to want to destroy Rick C-137 in particular... they quite literally replaced everyone n everything after they turned the entire world into Morty raping bug mutants so why assume Morty hasn't been replaced once or twice? Hell if you rewatch everything with that in mind it makes more sense n at several early points you'll notice plot points which may have been where Rick bounced universes n replaced Morty

it's possible that Rick implanted that memory into Morty's brain. But it's also possible they're both true to C-137 reality.

Season 3 actually. Also, Morty was clearly just parroting. He knew his Rick was C-137, so logically he must be Morty C-137. And I think it's safe to say that Morty isn't smart enough to know that he's Morty C-137 for sure. He could be, but I doubt it. But it is clear that we're following the normal Rick and Morty we all know and love. Otherwise Morty would believe he was a completely different number.

oh snap.. you just opened up a wormhole! actually due to relativity it would be impossible to reach another galaxy or universe without time dilation due to the vast distances between each object. So if Rick and Morty are traveling to different universes in their space ship then we are always following the real Rick and Morty but they could never return to their original galaxy/universe since thousands of years would pass in hours based on how far away they were from their original point. In other words every time Rick and Morty go on an adventure they return to a paralell universe to the one they left to compensate for the time loss while somewhere else in the universe. Great point!

Morty c-137 will always be Morty c-137 but the universe around him may not be the same. In Morty's mindblowers we see him and Rick having to flee after Morty pissed off the squirrels. So theres no sure fire way of knowing how many times they've changed universes and since each one is different in some little insignificant way. There no proof to say this is the same tammy we've seen in previous episodes and seasons
