She's from Washington State. When I was in my early 20's, she came into the prime rib house I worked at and I got to wait on her. I told her I loved her music. She was really down to earth and wrote down a recipe for me for authentic New York cheese cake. I still have that recipe...lol. Thanks for the reaction ❤

Thanks for hitting this Justin. I don't know if you'll return to this on the channel or not, but, if not, you should check out this entire album yourself. Every song is A+, starting with the opening number, her only hit single, "Chuck E.'s in Love", up through "Company", one of the most beautiful vocals ever committed to vinyl.

This whole album -- her debut -- is fantastic and worth a listen. Great stuff! When she hit the scene she was utterly unique, jazzy and great poetic lyrics.

Her singing and the lyrics are so poignant. She is masterful in hearing the impact on the audience. She brings the tears more than any other artist because she's so searingly authentic. She captures the moments and the people we've all known. You should go further.

'Saturday Afternoons in 1963' is one of those songs that can truly move me in the most sentimental and nostalgic way. Right back to the memories of the limitations of childhood. Just devastating. Rickie was involved in a relationship with Tom Waits back then......need I say more?! She is also very much influenced by Laura Nyro.......check out her work with Duane Allman!!

This song, her "Rodeo Girl" and Joni's "Amelia" capture the Southwest so brilliantly.

This debut album is absolutely a killer. It's so well produced and recorded, I remember all the Hi-Fi shows in 1979-1981 used "Danny's All-Star joint" as a demo track.

You struck gold today JP as Rickie Lee Jones is a national treasure, period. Off the debut you have Young Blood, Weasel and the White Boys Cool and of course Chuckies in Love all super-worthy to hit up here.

That first album is legendary with contributions from some great musicians from Jazz and Americana. She really put herself on the map as a brilliant songwriter and singer. Know this album now for some 40 years (as long as I'm a musician) and still get goosebumbs....

Still hitting on all cylinders J.P.!🏎😁 Rickie just released her 23rd. album this year. The lady is helping to keep jazz singers from fading away. It's always a great listen from the first record to the last!✌&❤.

The 1960s were all about fast-moving changes, but travelers knew they could count on Texaco. The long-running "Trust your car to the man who wears the star" advertising campaign began in 1962 and a hexagon version of our logo was introduced in 1963. Both would become icons of the road for an entire generation.

So, so happy you've discovered the great RLJ. Truly one of the greats. Plz do her version of 'Rainbow Sleeves' by her BF 'Tom Waits'. IMO it's a perfect song.

Just want to say that Rickie Lee has seemed to disappear in Joni Mitchell's shadow. But spend a little time with Jones and you'll see she needs more of her own Spotlight. Her first two albums are absolutely fantastic. Flying Cowboys is also great. Spend a little more time listening to her. Her songs can make you joyous and can break your heart, I'd recommend the Tom Waits written song of hers called, "Rainbow Sleeves."

Nice deep track from this album, that I am less aware of than "Chucky's In Love", which I always heard on the radio in the summer of '79, and Ricky Lee also performed on Saturday Night Live. Around that time, there was lots of buzz of Ricky Lee being an incarnation of the New Joni -- a very comparable talent.

Rickie HATED any reference to Joni, she actually lambasted her in Rolling Stone, Joni going the jazz route was "disappointing" according to her. Joni replied by saying that maybe Rickie was "trying to kill mommy or something".

I think she "modulated" her chords on the guitar. This is yet another song that makes me cry. She is the car, she needs to be loved to fix her. I like that she draws the symmetry between herself and a car that's been going a long time, through days, nights, alone and slowly breaking down for lack of love.

You should know that at the time she was recording this album she was Tom Waits girlfriend, Chuck E's in Love is about Tom's best friend at the time Chuck E Weiss. The song Lucky Guy on her next cd is about Tom.

Mesmerising, and one of my favourite Rickie songs. Problems with your car mechanicals used as a metaphor for an unreliable relationship - Joni Mitchell did a similar thing with the song "Electricity". The doppler effect vocals at the end. . .magical!

I'm surprised you haven't listened to Rickie Lee before now, 'Chuck E's in Love' got a lot of radio play. You may know it when you hear it. I'm sure I've recommended her album "Flying Cowboys" which was produced by Walter Becker of Steely Dan.

I remember that you received a British music magazine in one of your unboxings which had an article about her in it. It was probably about a memoir that she wrote. She used to be Tom Waits' girlfriend for a while. This song is in contrast to some of the upbeat songs on the album like "Chuck E's In Love". I love how she mimics a car passing by on the highway with her voice. All the car metaphors remind me of Robert Johnson's "Terraplane Blues". Did she miss her last chance or did she get a ride ?

My favourite Rickie Lee Jones song. Just *gorgeous* from first to last note. Builds beautifully, exquisite song construction and production (I might be making this up but I think the synth is played by Randy Newman), and she absolutely nails the vocal. If you fancy seeing a stunning live take - just Rickie and her guitar - this one is compelling (even though she looks high as a kite): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a6iegLhor53Icas.htmlsi=kJzHcixGypllf3u8

Rickie and Emmylou, two singers that are popping for years, asking me to dive in. I love female singers, I could name more than thirty singers with such unique voices or universes that I love... Lori Carson Lisa Germano Hope Sandoval Françoise Hardy Marissa Nadler Neko Case Meg Baird Shannon Wright Nico (a black sheep in here) ahah Linda Perhacs Vashti Bunyan Claire Hammil Judy Collins Elizabeth Fraser Lena d'Água Maddy Prior June Tabor Björk even Jewel!! Eva Cassidy Joni Mitchell Paula Frazer... (I know I'm missing some) Don't bother, I'll dive into Rickie. She's asking me for so long...
