OMGoodness...She is talking about L.A. and man was she on point. This is exactly how L.A. is. I moved from the East Coast to the West Coast and ended up in L.A. What a lonely nightmare. I once wrote a poem about L.A. .... and the isolation in the midst of crowds. Generally speaking, the South is far more real and understand relationship so much better. So nice Jones found herself once again in the South among a charming, soul people.

Agreed a really well done interview one that allows her to share with us her own personal challenges. I dont know if Ricki will see this but i had a incredibly special virtually private musical performance by Ricki and her band one evening in the early 90’s at Largo in LA. I had came in to watch my friends band who had finished up very late at Largo and pretty much everyone left except a few at the bar. I was getting ready to leave myself when Ricki and her band came in and played i think was the whole album of Pop Pop. All acoustic i was the only one in the audience. I was so blown away im here by myself sitting in the perfect position and getting what felt like a private performance of what also happens to be my favorite album of hers. If your listening Ricki i just want you to know it was truly a special moment for me that i will never forget. Thank you

One of the most brilliant singers. Once upon a time, I had a band with a wonderful female singer. When she suggested singing Chuck E's, I talked her out of it. There are voices, that are untouchable! Bless her!

In the spring of 1979 Rickie did 2 shows at Alex Cooley's Capri Ballroom in Atlanta. At that time, my roommate, Mark, worked the Capri's stage door, and we lived on Mathieson, right around the corner from the Capri. I had a ticket for the first show and went over to the theater in the afternoon and started the line at the door. When I got in I planted myself front center on the rail. The show was great, and near the end Rickie remarked on how much she liked Atlanta - the room got quiet and I said, loud enough for everyone in the venue to hear, "so why don't you stay and marry me?". She paused just a moment, and she was less than ten feet away from me, looked me right in the eye, and said "I might have to take you up on that". There was a cacophony of all my Buckhead friends throughout the theater saying "alright Danny" "hey Danny she said yes" and whistling and whooping. That moment was mentioned in the Journal Constitution's review the next day (you can look it up) and a month later people in Buckhead were still calling me 'Rickie Lee Jones fiance'. I didn't have a ticket for the late show but Mark got me in, and I was bummed to see how smacked she was when she came on stage for the 2nd show, I knew right away because I had seen the first show, but most of that audience didn't know that they were getting the watered down version of RLJ. A great artist, and she came through it all tremendously - I sure wish we were still young and beautiful and betrothed, but I'm sure I'd have tried to 'rescue' her and the end result would have been awful, but I would have liked to try.

This was a great interview. I love the way the interviewer left the door open and Ricki was gracious enough to step through. It was cool how, a few times, she was asked a question to which she answered with another question she asked herself. Love her.

That song Chuck E in Love Touched all kind of people. I was 17 years old when it came out.And when I first heard the song it had so much soul. 2021 listening to this it brings back good memories of the song Chuck E in love. As a forever L.A. native, it pains me to hear the things she said about L.A., but it's probably true. I think this happens to people in all big cities, you close up to protect yourself. I've always wanted to check out New Orleans, but I'm not sure if I could live with heavy humidity. Seeing Rickie is like a religious experience, and I'm not religious. So glad to see her drag herself back up and be a contender again. In the middle right now of this very good interview. Why do we see stars? Because it's not about us. We are part of it, but they do not exist because of us. Certain local hip radio stations in L.A. are not currently playing her, and it pisses me off. Seems ageist to me. When you have a remarkable talent and you are still relevant, you need to be heard.
