the mount on the bottom is actually a slot for an Arri Standard dovetail. Nice video. From my perspective of using Smallrig products, the quality of the aluminum is not the best, but maybe you already noticed that while using their cages for a longer period of time Greetings OS

I’d say the SmallRig products feel about 1/2 as good, but at 1/10 that’s an easy decision in a lot of cases. I’ll gradually replace a few pieces as needed but spend so little on kit when I just put so much into a camera

I think, in perspective of pricing smallrig would win every comparison against wooden camera, bright tangerine, tilta etc. , but when you have a client, you want to be sure that your main mounting-screw doesn't die during your production. I never regret to have spent much money for wooden camera products or tilta products😃@@stalman

@@oleschreiterdopac696 Very true, especially as the camera gets heavier My experience in that past that goes slightly in the other direction, is I bought all the good Zacuto gear for my 5D mkII and the quality was awesome. But of that $3,000 worth of rig, I only ended up using a few pieces regularly. Mixing in cheap stuff can really help figure out exactly how you want your rig to work.

I’ve been eyeing shoulder rigs for my Canon Cinema cameras ever since I watched a video by VICE showing how they have theirs setup, but I’ve never pulled the trigger because (A) I’m 6’4”, so the angle of filming is almost always too high up and (B) I don’t want to pack even more gear/add more weight. The native system of the top handle and adjustable mount for the LCD is starting to grow on me the more I use it. I just leave it built (with the top handle always attached) and it gets the job done for me. Always interesting to see how others want their cameras rigged though. I’ll be checking out the other rig options at NAB next week. This was a really helpful video Tyler, thank you for making it.

When I see them in the wild, 90% of people are using the default mounts so obviously it works fine. I’ve had shoulder mount kits before but rarely end up using them. It’s so big that it restricts the other ways you can move the camera.

I think the EVF/monitor extender is designed for Canon's OEM handle, so the clamp will fit in it's grooves and not getting loose over time.

1fareast14 Panasonic developed an organic sensor with a global shutter and that 29.2 stops of dynamic range and they are releasing it in an upcoming cinema camera called the AK-SHB810. The article talking about the new sensor can be found here: bit.ly/2xeEKR1

I built most of my rail kit with SmallRig parts. I use a follow focus on my zoom ring and only one front handle. I do agree the quality vs price is 👍🏻.

I've got a rig setup for my C200. The monitor placement after putting on the rig kills my neck from looking up at it. I got an arm and put it lower to my eye level.

Some bicycle bar tape might make the grip more comfortable, also some medium threadlock on that mount screw will stop it coming loose. Great video as always.

Nice review! I loved the Smallrig parts, especially the same handle you use on the Sony on my 5DIII, but in case of C200 the parts are not coming together as nicely. I probably gonna opt for Bright Tangerine if I will be able to justify the price. Btw the mount is an ARRI style dovetail, mostly used on higher end cameras (still the best you can get if you have the money)

So the default setup is large and not that good, and then you make 5 times larger and heavier camera LOL :) C200 EVF is better than the LCD and you get the additional point of contact for stabilization, and you don't need the handle or most of the LCD mount parts, that's how C200 is great to use, small and light.

The shoulder mount isn't an alternative the standard setup, that's for shoulder mount shooting which will always be huge. I very rarely use rails, so typically it's stripped way down to just the handle and I'll be getting a Titan Arm for the monitor.

@@stalman You said you just bought the C200 after owning Sony A7 series, so you're basically just copying what other people do with larger cameras and other people are copying Hollywood like they will ever do that level of production. You shouldn't do that because small crew/one man production is not the same as 100 or 200 men crew and you have to scale down and be small and light. All of this is totally unnecessary, the point of small production is to move fast, no matter what you film, because again, it's not Hollywood and you should not copy their practices, it just makes everything slower and more complicated.

Great video, thanks a lot! I am in the process of buying a C200 myself and have a really stupid and noob question but.. i will ask anyway simply because I dont know about it or how this camera works. When shooting RAW, are any video profiles or LOG modes selectable or can/need to be applied (like when shooting MP4), or because its RAW, basically is just RAW straight out of the sensor with no procession and end of story? Thanks again :)

There are no profiles, raw is just shooting raw. When you process the raw on a computer it will want to default CLOG2, which is by far their flattest profile, but you can change to any of the available profiles at that point.

and btw, CLOG2 isn't available for the MP4 or AVC codec, which is kind of weird. Only CLOG and CLOG3

I think the Smallrig gear is so cheap because they have no R&D cost. They can rent American made gear, that has tons of R&D behind it, copy it and then sell it right back to us.
