The Kansai accent has always been used as an indicative of Johto natives in the Japanese version. Other characters who share this trait are Bill, Bebe, Valerie and Kamado The sole exception for this is Norman who doesn't have an accent besides being from Olivine city

I'm actually very happy Rika is getting some representation in Masters EX. I really love her design and personality, very tough exterior but actually very soft personality so much so that she is visibly infuriated with the player character for entering Area Zero and putting themselves in danger. She shows a great level of professionalism but also compassion and kindness but she also carries herself with confidence in her own strengths which is why she is my favourite Elite Four member. Larry is great but I feel like Larry the Gym Leader is better than Larry the Elite Four member simply because he has a passion for normal type Pokémon and that idea is pushed with Larry but in the E4 he is forced to use Flying-Type's instead of Normal-Type's, granted his Staraptor is still on his team as his Ace but it had more of an impact against Larry in the Gym challenge well at least to me. I wonder what everyone else thinks though 🤔

Rika has my vote. I loved the scene in the DLC when she yelled at the player and her interactions seem genuine. Whitney is a crybaby who doesn’t deserve her title

You know I never noticed that about the Johto trainer dialect. But I'm also thinking because in PMEX Whitney is the ONLY character from Johto I've seen talk like that consistently. Since the PMEX team had a lot of changes after their first year I'm guessing perhaps the new localizers didn't catch that dialect difference.

Also I swear Whitney got so much better treatment in Masters with great writing ever since that Holiday 2022 event and for once she doesn't even cry in here even after getting beaten (being mature to intentionally losing to the kids together with Rika). It's also great to see that an unexpected rivalry of Whitney and Rika, but this is the charm Masters will have, aka expanding characters more than the OG game could. Glimmora would be a great mascot if the treats were iced gems or cupcakes. Clodsire if they were gummies or chocolates. Miltank if they were milk sweets. Clodsire should have won, going by Lear's description. As for the Kansai dialect based friendship, considering that Rika grew up in the inner city and enrolled in an underfunded school, you could say it's a matter of hick-meets-hood. Doesn't really explain why Rika recognized Whitney's region unless either she was from Johto as well or both Johto and her hometown were known to be like the boonies.

I was expecting the twist ending to this story being that Lear would decide that Hoopa had to be the mascot. Glimmora is even funnier though. Yeah because when i think milk chocolate I think POISON STONE FLOWER. Also at this point i wouldn't be surprised if they added the professors before they added Arven, and that would require breaking the spacetime continuum to get them there (unless they're both pulled from the timeline from the crystal pool, where they presumably pulled back and didn't descend into paranoia, and were better parents). If they ever add the AIs I will whale like Primal Kyogre. I don't care that they literally can't function outside Area Zero. There's a lot of energy experts in Pasio and I'm sure someone could come up with something.

I don't know why but I like Rika's Masters model way more than her SV one and I don't know why. That aside I really like that they found a similarity between 2 different characters and then had them interact.
