The girl chose the hero Dimash. The rejected boy grew up and became a dictator, with whom Dimash’s hero fights. The pregnant woman is the same girl who became Dimash’s wife. They already have a daughter who dies in this terrible war. The tragedy here is also that Dimash’s hero has to kill his former friend, who once saved him. That is, in a war there are no winners, everyone is a loser, because... many innocent lives have been lost. Dimash is steeped in sacred music and has a deep understanding of the mystic teachings and symbolism of the major world religions as well as Kazakh shamanism. It is not by coincidence that the first performance of this work took place on September 14, 2022, at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan. The written statement at the end of the video is directly from the “Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” signed jointly on February 4, 2019, by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad el-Tayeb. Dimash met and spoke with both men at the September meeting. Everything Dimash does is intentional, and this piece has layers that would take a dissertation to unravel. I only touch on some of what struck me in the symbolism. The music is a dissertation all by itself. The pendant is an interesting element. It is a gnomon from a maritime compass sundial. This triangular blade is attached to the sundial, casting a shadow on the sundial while the perforated pinhole projects the image of the sun onto the dial. It was used for both timekeeping and navigation, with the gnomon oriented to True North. (Thank you, Snarky Tart for that information). In the MV, (the taller child) who later becomes the military commander, never puts on the necklace. After Dimash, (the drowning boy), gives his friend the pendant. The camera focuses on his hand and shows that his friend has bent the gnomon in anger over being rejected by the girl (later Dimash's Wife and the mother of his daughter who is killed). Thus bent, it can never be oriented to True North, and he has lost his moral compass. Later, we see a version of the gnomon as the military insignia on the uniforms of the commander and his soldiers, but distorted and without the hole that allows light to shine through rendering it useless as a compass. When we lose the original intent of a symbol by twisting it into something it is not or by just paying lip service, it no longer has any spiritual meaning. At best it becomes a useless prop, at worst it is used to mislead and manipulate people. Contemporary music is also present: With the phrase "We have passed the moment of Imagine," Dimash reminds us that we are past the sentiments evoked by the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. We can only raise our individual and collective consciousness by bringing to light what needs to be healed in our lives and our world, and then we need to work together to restore wholeness to what is broken and bring about peace and unity, one step at a time. My interpretation: in childhood everyone is innocent, one of them grows up and becomes corrupt, Dimash and the girl who form a family, remain on opposite sides. The girl they kill is their daughter and dies while her mother is giving birth. Then when Dimash dies (he kills the tyrant because he plays a soldier) his son is born who grows up and is equal to his father and leads all religions to a typical peace. MASTERPIECE!!

Thank you for your reacting to this masterpiece. In The Story Of One Sky he composed and sang the whole soundtrack himself. The video shows once again that Dimash is an absolute genius. In composing, in singing but also as an actor and as a storyteller. The powerful message conveyed by this video is more relevant today than ever. I think this video is mostly about the message. This message however, is for the first time more important than his vocal abilities. His voice is just the tool in this video. But simply unbelievable. His singing is indescribable and I don’t have the words to express it adequately. But it is only the mediator of what this video is about. This is so heartbreaking and sad and an awesome masterpiece. Pure goosebumps. You probably have to see it more than once to understand it. He worked on this composition for three years and also wrote the screenplay. The premiere was on September 24, 2022. As some have mentioned, this video should be seen by many people. It may be very brutal for some. But let’s not forget that for many, including children, this is everyday life in some countries. And Dimash relentlessly shows us how ugly war is. During his concerts he always tells the audience he loves all people in every country. He visited so many different counties with his concerts and he realized that there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And OMG he is such a phenomenal actor. Dimash was the little boy who was drowning in the beginning and he gave the necklace to his childhood friend (and future leader) and the girl. The girl on the beach was his future wife. She was pregnant and in the end of the video she gave birth to her and Dimashs' (character) second child. The littel girl who was shot was Dimashs and her first daughter. When he came home and saw his daughter dead on the ground, he had to assume that his wife and unborn child were also killed. Desperation and maybe revenge has led him to kill his former friend. When I first saw the video, I was shocked. I didn't think he was going to shoot his friend. But in the end that all made sense. Dimash wanted to show what revenge can do. Violence always breeds violence, and because of this, not only is the leader dead, but so is Dimash. It was so heartbreaking to see Dimash drown at the end. Dimash in the last sequence of the video was the baby that was born and now as a grown man unites people of different nationalities and religions for peace. In this video you can see how the main religions are represented mostly with his voice. I wonder if I ever get through this song without crying! 😅 This song is about the message of peace and about children suffering because of the decisions of adults. In the end war did not unite anyone. The friends became enemies and they and lots of others were killed in the process. 😭 But the child that was born later walked peacefully with people of all nations and religions towards a common goal. ❤ This video is more about the message than the stunning vocals. You probably didn’t pay attention to them that much. 😅 That’s why I would recommend for you to listen to it again. Dimash sang *everything* from the deep bass notes to the highest soprano notes. Thank you! Yes, it took me at least ten viewings to dig out symbols, allusions, and references in this masterpiece. And I probably missed more. So there are several levels: the vocals (all by Dimash, including the om chant), the music (composed by Dimash), the script (written by Dimash), the lyrics, and the visuals. I wish to talk about the vocals, but it would take a book. In the lyrics, well, so much to say, but I’ll mention a couple. “We are past the moment of Imagine” is a reference to John Lennon’s song of peace “Imagine”. He’s trying to say that just imagining a world at peace is not enough. Pacifists should stand up and do something. Also: the Piper refers to the Pied Piper of Hamelin who led the children to their deaths as they were hypnotized by the sound of the pipe, not thinking beyond it. To drive the point, the voice of the dictator booms over the ongoing fighting. The script: there are two main layers, the storyline and the parallel of the travelers. As you said, they represent all religions, and the low voice speaking in Kazakh says something like We are all travelers in life. You see the Muslims (Qur’an, Ihram- the two pieces of white cloth worn in a pilgrimage to Makkah), the Christians (cross, bell ringing), the Jews (tallit - white shawl with blue stripes, and shofar- horn), the Buddhists- red robes, om chant), and probably more religions i didn’t identify. There have been such seekers of truth throughout history, and they are marching through heat or storms, but always upward, toward the light as you said). Some may die on the way to this ideal, but what’s an earthly death compared to eternal bliss. The Dimash character may be himself after death, or may be the grown up child. Open to interpretation. A few more interesting details in the film: the symbol found by the child in a fisherman’s tackle box is a gnomon, part of a sundial or a seaman’s sextant for determining his position. The dictator uses that symbol but takes out of the design the hole, thus making it impossible to use it for finding out where he’s heading in life. The burning sign in the ground “Waldenberg” makes a reference to the German town of Waldenburg, which was the site of a last ditch effort by the Wehrmacht by the end of WWII, but was almost completely destroyed by US 3rd Army. The message is that it doesn’t matter which side you’re on, it’s innocent people who bear the burden of loss and suffering. This is shown again and again, fir example in the scene where Dimash first appears as a soldier, he shoots an enemy soldier dead against a wall but then falls against that wall in the same position, with a wound matching the spatter of blood on the wall, and then is hit by an explosion. Somehow foreshadowing the ending. Which is where Dimash “screams” rock or metal style for the first time. Screams his heart and soul out.

The Commander was the boy who saved Dimash (soldier) as a young boy. The lady giving birth is the young girl at the beach and is now Dimash's wife. War here is a means of expressing the contrast of what happens when we lose love for one another. It is about the call to unite, to stop dividing each other along national, social, religious lines in order to preserve life, love, friendship, and the land for our children. Story: The clip is divided into several parts. One day the friend saves the protagonist when he almost drowns. The three children are friends and their common external symbol is the necklace (gnomon). Both boys are in love with the girl. But she chooses “Dimash”. The other boy feels hurt. The pendant is a gnomon, the shadow hand of a sundial, which served as a nautical compass in ancient times. This symbol is upside down on the uniforms. (That's not how it works.) It's war. The children are grown and the two boys have parted ways. Dimash's childhood friend has become the country's president/general and mercilessly follows his twisted ideology. As an antagonist (He is the Piper - based on the “Pied Piper of Hamelin”), he carries the idea of a saving war: “Only war will lead us to peace. Only the strongest can find love in their hearts. You must be strong enough to give freedom to the world. A world where every city, every home is one. We accompany everyone who is ready to start this new life. Anyone who resists has no place with us. I choose freedom. The world is my oyster and I want to give it to you… War is the way to a united people!” The main character, Dimash, also speaks of unity, of peace, but through the lens of kindness and love. He's struggling, he's confused, he's in shock, but he has to save his family - his pregnant wife and his young daughter. When he finally comes home, he is horrified to discover that his entire family has been killed. His wife has disappeared and his little daughter is dead. The loss of his daughter almost drives him crazy. (Dimash says in a growling voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. - Kazakh proverb) He wants revenge and an end to the horror. He shoots the general, his childhood friend and former lifesaver... and is killed himself. The protagonist's wife survives with the help of people who know that she is the one who will give birth to a special child. Thank you for your sincere reaction, you all did a good job figuring out the story line! 🥰 When I first watched this MV, it broke me, I became very emotional, it was heart wrenching, to say the least! Have you noticed that Dimash is the main solder right from the very beginning of the war scene, when he was walking under the overpass, also when he was shot in the arm, many people miss that? Dimash has worked very hard for 3 years composing the music for this song, and around 20 days to make this MV. It turned out to be his most valuable MV, in the ideological sense, ever made, a real Masterpiece! I believe that Dimash deserves THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE for his selfless hard work and tireless efforts, not only for this MV, but for trying to bring the world together in love, peace, and harmony and through his many charities. He is a Legend in the making and will go down in History. This is my breakdown of the story, as I see it: This mini movie is full of symbolisms, it's the story of 3 youths, and the necklace which was created by the young Dimash and shared with his friends symbolizing lifelong friendship and unity. The boys both loved the same girl, but she loved Dimash, so the other boy grew resentful over time, started a war, using the symbol of the necklace given to him by his friend Dimash, as the crest on his army uniform. 1) Dimash, was the boy drowning at the beginning and at the end. 2) The Piper, is the one who saved Dimash, became the leader, and was killed by Dimash at the end. 3) The young girl, who died in childbirth, became Dimash’s future wife, had two children together; a daughter who was killed by the Piper's army; and the birth of a son who inherited the necklace from his mother…, they were all affected by the war. “People are the caravan…. Life is the way”: Dimash spoke these words in Kazakh, when he found his daughter dead. For the symbolic aspects, Dimash is showing the different cultures and religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hindi, etc.), through throat singing, which is called the REQUIEM (mass for the souls of the dead), from different religions. The Pilgrim or (Shepard or a Wise Man) at the end of the video was Dimash’s baby boy, born in his image and grows up to guide the Representatives of different religions and race from different Nations to the light, for a new beginning living together in peace, tolerance, love, and harmony. Dimash composed the music and did the screen play. It took 3 years of his life.

This song is a "modern" multicultural interfaith Requiem (the traditional Requiem is a song for the Mass of the Dead in the Catholic Church. The best known requiem is by Mozart I think). The Requiem usually has 2 parts: one mourning death and the other celebrating life. Dimash says in a low voice: Адам керуен, өмір жол. Man is a caravan, life is a road. (Kazakh proverb) So for me, the caravan is his (and our) inner world. Religiosity is in us, the religious man dies when a part of the soldier (Dimash) dies when he finds his daughter dead. So when he seeks revenge, there's a storm. Death follows death: Piper dies but the soldier (Dimash) dies too. Death is not the answer. And so violence is not the way (You can murder the "bad guy" but if everybody thinks that violence is an answer, another "bad guy" will appear for sure.) And then we see that his son made a better decision... His son joins others in seeking peace. That is the final answer. Hug from Brazil 😍🇧🇷

I’ve watched this MV more than 3 times, each time I like & dislike it, not Dimash but that this is true in reality. The wars in Ukraine & Israel, all those innocent lives lost because leaders can’t agree to disagree. I cried for those lost lives each time I watched this. God, I hate this world sometimes!

The pilgrims in the “alternative reality” scenes are from many different religions. There are pilgrims with Christian symbols. others with Jewish symbols, some with a Koran, some wearing Buddhist robes.

If you note, as a young boy, the general bent the symbol on the necklace. The symbol is part of a mariner sundial/compass, thus he, symbolically, lost his way. Also, Among the refugees, you see different religions represented as being under one sky. Catch some of the lyrics, the piper referring to our leaders, passed the point of Imagine refers to John Lennon.
