Haven't trained front lever in 2 years after injuring myself, tried just the other day and had a shitty 3sec full hold but now i'm definitely motivated to train it again. Especially seeing I kept most of my gains without training lol

Not bad at all! I'm on my way to front lever too. I can hold full half lay for 8s, but full front with perfect form only for 1 second
@datoolz0
@datoolz0 Жыл бұрын
Feeling pathetic, I can only do tucked and the one with my legs not tucked in so much. Half tuck? I noticed his hips were weak, should I do single hip thrusts?
@Emanuele-mw8hc
@Emanuele-mw8hc Жыл бұрын
@@datoolz0 Well, as I have read on your other comment it seems like you are 180cm. Calisthenics skills are usually more challenging for people that are taller. I am 168cm. But it does not mean you can't, my coach is 178 and can do a maltese. Just expect it to be a little longer journey. Back to your question: what do you mean your hips are weak? Does it mean that the hips are going below the shoulder when you try half advanced tuck? Then it probably means that your lats are weak. The thing is: full FL is a position that requires LOTS of lats strenght and abs strenght. When in tuck the body lever is minimum, but as you extend your legs forward the body lever increases a lot, requiring more lats strenght. What I would suggest is: pratice FL in a position you are confortable. If you can do tuck perfectly but not tuck advanced, then stay on the tuck version until you reach around 20-30seconds. Then go to tuck advanced until you reach 20-30second and one leg, straddle, half lay, full. But also, work on other exercises: pulldown is a great exercises for FL, pullups with weight, you could try FL raises in tuck or eccentric FL in tuck position. It's difficult to give precise advice as i haven't see your FL and your training program, these are general advices. Keep going!

@@Emanuele-mw8hc In the video, the poster suffered from weak hips. I noticed in his front lever his hips dipped down! I can already do dragon flags, and pullups, which should satisfy strength requirements. Do I need stronger hips? I don't want my hips to dip down. My plan is to from tucked to half tucked, basically straighten my legs a little more. So far front lever feels easy, but its probably because I am not yet at a hard enough progression.

@@datoolz0 You just need to put in effort and time. Form will come naturally.
@andrew08wong

@@datoolz0 I believe hip sagging can be down to either lat strength or core. I could already dragon flag so it was a pulling issue. Since you can dragon flag too I would say it’s down to pulling strength. Being able to do a few pull-ups is not enough I’d say you would need like 15+ and train weighted pull-ups if you can

I tought I improved ridiculously fast at this exercise but you improved even faster. That said, the video felt very relatable. I started from the same level as you, and now 5 weeks later I can hold FL for 3s (probably not a great form but I don't film myself). I didn't believe it when it hapenned lol. Now I'd like to become as strong as you are at the end of the video ^^. I only train one session per week for 30 min. I would not survive with your training volume. It's way too hard for me. Since ppl share height/weight as it does matter for this exercice, I'm 173cm 68~70 kgs (35 years old). So it's definitely possible to improve for us who are a bit bulkier or older.

Hey! Great video man. I just started calisthenics like a month ago after doing a few months of gym. Im 16 years old 5'6 and 50kg. Since i've started ive learnt the v sit in about a month. I think probably because of the gym, ive built strength to gain the skill in such short time. Im currently training the human flag, and thinking of the front lever. Do you think I have a good advantage with calisthenics and achieving these skills easily?
@andrew08wong
@andrew08wong Жыл бұрын
hey man, great that you started calisthenics! I dont have any expertise on the human flag, but for the front lever you would definitely want to get a strong base in the basics (pushup, dips) and especially pullups (15 i think) then start working with the easier progressions like tuck

@@pac8546 yeap your height is great. your weight is also on the lower end which is helpful for calisthenics, however I'm not able to tell whats the ideal weight as everyone functions differently. Being heavier may actually help if you get more muscle, but again I can't say for certainty

Why don't you try different entering in front lever? If you enter from tucked position, you lose a lot of strenghth, and you won't swing as much as you do with entering straight to full FL. Great video I'm sure you are 5x better now!
@andrew08wong
@andrew08wong Жыл бұрын
on the high bar you need to do an FL raise which is quite tough. On the low bars I think you have a point but I just feel more comfortable with a tuck somehow, it's still my go to entry. I'm working on front lever touch now!

Bro i can do 10 pull ups and i cant muscle up so shall i go for front lever progressions but i can do adv tuck hold now i have benn training for fl from 2 weeks so whats ur opinion to me?i dont have core strength like you any exercises for core that you have done to do fl?
@andrew08wong
@andrew08wong Жыл бұрын
Yes I did a lot of dragon flag training which helps with the straight line for the front lever. 10 pullups is not bad I think you can make a start with FL training, but keep training your pullups at the same time!

Curious about your height and weight, I'm 180cm and 77kilo right now. Can I expect the same rate of progress, scaling it up or down as I compare to your stats?

Hmm I am a lot shorter, like 170cm and 59kg which does give me an advantage but I wouldn’t be able to tell you the rate of progress to expect as everyone’s different. Definitely seen a lot of tall guys front lever though it is extremely possible

@@andrew08wong Geek Climber, with even better stats than you or me, claims it is impossible! And while we can both attain it, based on me being 10cm taller, and 18 kilo heavier, I will need more strength to do it. Or just cut weight, I reckon if I am at 69-70 kilos it will be easy.
