The Roast Dinner is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with a full english breakfast and a fish and chips, but what is the difference between a supermarket version and a takeaway version? Well in this video I head inside one of the biggest supermarket chains in the UK and a takeaway to try out their roast dinners to see who is best!

Morrisons are letting themselves down by doing a roast dinner like that, I’m a big fan of their breakfast though. The place in York was a clear winner there. A porcelain plate and steel cutlery would elevate them to another level though.

I've never had the Morrisons roast meal, but the York Roast Company is very good. I've had the roast pork in the pudding wrap, and it was delicious. Also, their pork cracklings are very good as well.

Great video. The Morrisons roast looked very poor. Almost like one of their microwave meals. We had roast chicken from their cafe a few weeks ago and it was much better looking. The York roast looked good. A decent price but plastic cutlery is almost them trying to annoy you. Surely wooden cutlery would be an easy substitution. Great research by you

I’m going insane with hunger after watching the York dinner. After watching Morrisons I didn’t know what was to come. But I was already sure Morrisons had lost. Frozen food with 2 thin slices of deli roast beef! If I was handed that and expected to pay I’d laugh say no thanks and go somewhere else. That’s a joke for a rost dinner. Look at the chunks of beef in York, stuffing etc. now that’s propper. Same as you a real plate knife n fork would be great but still no comparison. That was a great review. 👍

You summed it up perfectly! You're eating in so why not serve the meal on a plate with metal cutlery? It's just adding to plastic pollution. Other than that, you definitely got your money's worth with 2 thick slices of roast beef. The pork and crackling looked tasty too. Morrisons, oh dear! What a calamity of a roast dinner, not worth the money. Everything on the plate was frozen! Shocking! The thin slices of beef come in gravy, that's why it was on your plate already. It's a frozen tray of processed beef slices in gravy they heated up. I've had it in hospital before, and pensioners buy it if they cannot cook a joint. In other words, a second rate option!

If the price point at Morrisons was lower, if might have been an “ok” meal but hands down the York meal looked amazing and such good value !!!

The York roast company East winner, we always have metal cutlery in the car, can easy put in your bag, you can get cheap sets in the likes of home bargains for around £2.50

The Morrison's Roast Dinner, the Mashed Potato was fine but the other Vegetables looked to have been Frozen ones. The Yorkshire Puddings pale, Roast Beef taken from a Pack of Meat. My Friend & I passed the York Roast Co. on a recent Visit to York. Had we'd been Hungry at the time would have bought something to eat from here. This Roast Dinner in a Giant Yorkshire Pudding looked lovely. The Vegetables were definitely cooked from Fresh, the Beef carved from a Joint with lovely Yorkshire Pudding, Perfect. I can overlook the fact the Cutlery was Plastic, all in all The York Roast Co.was definitely the Winner!!!

Well the first is ok but its a budget meal the second is a quality item, as you say it would be better out of the box and it was the best of the two, but i would eat them both!!!

Childhood memories ❤Sunday lunch 😊 Even in the dark days 😢Family time😊Morrison's.Well a frozen plate of sub standard fair. Really don't want to say any more about this 😢York Roast Company. New name to me,but looks a great idea for a takeaway. The yorkie pudding base seemed well filled. Sometimes a slightly soft roasties spud can be better for gravy mixing. Standard vegetables looked ok.The stuffing ball with beef😮not quite sure about! Now the star 🌟 of any Sunday lunch .The Meat❤ The spread in the window could tempt a vegan or vegetarian to step inside 😂. Beef was for my taste overcooked and a tiny bit dry. thick,hand carved were spot on😊.Gravy looked to have meat juice'n'scraps in.Bonus😊.No sign of mustards or horseradish 😮And plastic cutlery ( maybe banned from today) never a good idea. Pub grub fills a public need.York Roast Company is what this member of the public wants ❤❤😊. Cost of living, I'd say once a month as a treat😊Cheers 🥂 Allan&Family

The take away roast in the giant pudd' wins hands down for me. Okay in a cardboard box with plastic cutlery make cutting that beef harder cut up but it's about taste and flavour. The roast bit soft but more than acceptable. Difficult get genuine freshly cooked crispy roast potato unless from quality restaurants of time spent preparing at home IMO. The Morrison looked straight out the freezer into the microwave and served and twice the cost of that from the freeze. Would definitely try the take away roast should I come across such an establishment. Enjoyed the video however EIE which always create debate.

The York Roast Company is fantastic. We have eaten there and I couldn't get enough. Morrisons was poor in comparison. Great vlog , thank you 😊😊

I love the Yorkshire pudding wraps at the York Roast especially as you can choose exactly what you want inside 😋. The only thing that sometimes keeps me away from ordering one is the fact that Drake's fish and chip shop is more or less opposite 😂😋

Supermarkets cut corners as they don't have a proper restaurant fair enough as i would not expect my local greasy spoon to do a roast dinner. I cant remember if you have done a toby carvery? If you go their at the right time there breakfasts and roasts are very good. If you go at the wrong time and the food has been left out not so good.

The beef at Morrisons is fine in a sandwich, but not when having a roast dinner. The York Roast Company wins as the ingredients looked non-frozen unlike most of the Morrisons meal.

Oh dear. That Morrison's meal looked sad. Even in a box, that York Roast meal looked way better presented than Morrison's, but, at least you know now where to go/where not to go next time you get a craving.

The YRC - I’m mixed. The beef looks wonderful. So do the roast potatoes. I’m not impressed with the York Pudding - far too big and not impressed how it’s served. By the way it looks a very small serve - of everything. When you put that gravy cup next to it - the cup looks massive! But it’s definitely better than Morrisons.

i have said it before but Morrisons cafes are variable and the one nearest me. is pretty bad the meal you had was cheap but it didn’t look enjoyable the other place was good but needed to have some cutlery and plates even if it meant upping the price a bit

I once purchased a breakfast that was served with plastic cutlery in a Styrofoam box. the food was good but the experience and enjoyment was not. The cuttlery was too flimsy and broke before finishing the meal.

think looking at it the morrisons meat looks like the boil in the bag with the gravy already with it. that's why you had gravy on. the second one the meal looks like cut off a real joint. but I do not see it as an eat in place with the plastic knife and fork. and in a box. This was not really a hard win. morrisons looked dry and just thrown on the plate. the only good point was you had a plate and a knife and fork.

The Morrisons one was a total let down. The mash, peas and carrots looked ok and also the gravy. I liked the crockery at Morrison's. The York roast company won hands down, the only let down there was the box and the plastic cutlery. The Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and meat and the gravy looked lovely also the carrots, I'm not keen on green beans and i don't like stuffing. I would give the Morrisons one 4out of 10 and the York roast company 8 out of 10 purely because of the takeaway box and plastic cutlery

Plastic cutlery is now banned so you will have wooden ones! Purgatory. We take our own metal ones around in my bag. But you have to go to York which is a long way from Leicester. Many Morrisons around but did not look very good.

Nothing wrong with frozen fruit and veg.... actually retain more nutrients than fresh. Dinner wise probably the second but the takeaway thing would bother me.

Morrisons is a supermarket who will feed you while you shop with them. York Roast is all about the roast. Up against a good restaurant a proper plate and knife and fork would win.

100% the Morrisons will be from their own food stock. Logically they are not going to cook an entire roast, potatoes etc and have them left over if not sold.

Possibly the most one-sided comparison you've ever done! But I don't think you can beat homemade (or my mum's anyway) over any hospitality place. Even the second place here. The supermarket one looked absolute crap (and I don't like mash either :-) ).

"Not my favorite item" from you is like "pistols at dawn" from another reviewer. The York Roast, while quite a bit more expensive, looked like a vastly better meal. Morrisons was cheaper, but at that price point there are a lot of places you could get a much better meal. I've liked the look of everything else from Morrisons on here but this was a real let down from them.
