Ryobi Door Lock Install Jig and Keyless Deadbolt Install

I use the Ryobi Bi-Metal Door Lock Installation kit (model# A99DLK4) To Install Keyless Electronic Door Locks at the "Handyman Special" house. Quick Product review and used product to install the new locks.

Hey, Rob, I'm pretty sure you needed to rotate the latch barrel for it to move towards the hinge side of your hole so that the entire lock mechanism was more centered in the hole. That's why part of the hole is still exposed in the interior of the lock.

I had to move it over to clear the door frame and also to attempt to line it up with the existing door handle. Got it moved a bit but yes it was designed to fit in the other setting but I needed to modify this one a bit so it would function. I will be replacing this whole door as it is not quite "proper". Hey Rob! I don't know if its still relevant or not, but I just had to tell you [or the future viewers ] how to do it right: Basically, you did everything good, except of one part - you didn't adjust the core of the deadbolt (the one that has the bolt in it) - it has to be adjusted to the right backset length! I'll explain : there are 2 common backset lengths when installing a lock. You did right by checking and aligning the deadbolt position according to the door knob beneath that. The thing is that you adjusted the right backset length only with the position of the lock on the door, but you didn't adjust it on the lock itself (the core connects between the lock and the frame basically). Very easy fix! just disassemble the lock again, take the core piece out, with a screw driver turn the "+" sign (it could be a different shape but its the same) until the bolt is out. then, depends on the lock type, you will see how to turn it to the right back-set (most of the time by twisting the entire core). its hard to explain it so just take a look on that quick video that I found that shows just that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hslna8SXkqu-o3k.html Good luck!

Rob, thanks for the video. One question....the hole you drilled for the lock appeared to be larger than what was needed. The cover provided on the inside of the door did not completely hide the hole you drilled. Yes/No? BTW....Happy New Year!

There are two lengths of door barrel so you can drill the same size hole in two different locations. The current handle was in the other location. I tried to keep line them up as much as possible by pulling this lockset in line with the handle. I made it about 1/2 way so the handle and lock set are not obviously out of alignment. The hole size for the handle is actually standard but there are two possible hole locations to chose from depending on the barrel length stated on the lockset or handle set. Good attention to detail. is that door metal on the outsides and wood inside?

The steel residential doors have a rectangular wood frame around the outside of the door then styrofoam in the centre all clad in a steel skin.

You are absolutely right. I have needed some better A/V equipment for awhile. Problem is they are difficult to find. I have ordered a set of wireless headphones with a mic for my new iPhone and a camera mount. I'm hoping that will work. Eagerly waiting for the package to arrive... Cheers! Rob

I was trying to line the lock up with the existing door handle as much as possible so it didn't look bad. The handle and the door lock had two different barrel lengths. I didn't want to lock to look off centre so I moved it over a bit so it wasn't so obvious.

If somebody spills something over the buttons and damages it, or smashes it with a hammer, superglue anyone? how are you going to get inside yourself?

Spills are fine, after all, it's a lock on the outside of your house exposed to the weather. You can damage any lockset with a hammer or superglue. Locks only keep honest people out and only slow down criminals. Cheers! Rob
