I have this tool and it works pretty good but did have a couple tear outs of the wood here and there. Great tool a must for any DYIer or professional. I also saw you used the door hinge router template they sell. I just discovered this had to go to 4 Home Depots to find one. Worth it's weight in gold. I ordered 3 more so I could set them up on one door with two or three hinges rout them all without having to move the one tool around got one extra in case one gets broken.

Not sure why so many negative comments on here. Very thorough and is clear you are a bit of a perfectionist, nothing wrong with that! Especially with some of the sloppy diy stuff you can find on here. Thanks for the in depth video. 👍

I have just one question. My new doors is about 1/4 wider from the old door. Should i use a planer and shave the back of the door? Or the front? Or does it matter?
@DaddioWaddio
@DaddioWaddio 3 жыл бұрын
@@jorrba3934 I am doing doors now and had the same problem. I bought an electric planer and have been shaving the new doors on the hinge side to match the existing width. First door I did wouldn’t close. Don’t think the side matters really, but I figured the hinge side would be less visible if I made a mistake planing

I saw another video on this tool and the guy went crazy hammering step 1 and on step 2 he pushed the tool as far as he could and laid into it. When he was done it looked twice as deep as the striker backing plate. I have 8 solid oak doors to do so I was looking for something to make it more consistent. I like the 1st part, but as far as the 2nd, I think a really sharp chisel would do better. Work from the finished edge to the center. I also cringed when during the 2nd part you get to the end of the cut and have to remove the material. I just know if it were me something would splinter.

@@danlux4954 gotcha, I'm sure there are other uses and I'm probably thinking narrow minded, since all I can see is the current project at hand which is a single pantry door my wife wants installed, which requires...everything I don't have to install minus a drill. lol But, as the wife finds more crap for me to do, perhaps a router need would surface indeed.

Good video, however I think you should spend half hour sharpening your chisels. The tool itself is probably ok for DIYers and wouldn't be much use in the Uk. I think I would have been faster using a couple of sharp chisels.

So what I took from this video was you’re reviewing a tool you don’t trust to do the job so you took a 2 step process and turned it into a 14 step process with your extra chisels. “Imma put this all the way in then pull out a bit now for a test fit, oh wait it’s not deep enough lemme put the tool ask the way in and do it again “ 😂. I wasted my time watching this video thx
