@@stevensanders7625 Didn't both George Jones and David Allen Coe do this one back in the day? If you're familiar with Motown R&B classics, its obvious that they took the lyrics to "Tennessee Whiskey" and gave it a new arrangment & the same beat & chord progression as Etta Jame's "I'd Rather Go Blind." Its unmistakable. In fact, if it weren't for the twangy one string guitar riff it wouldn't sound Country at all. Came together real nice though straddling the fence between both genre's. Whoever produced it knew what he was doing.

I'm a Southern Bama girl and the real country songs are blues country. Women down here can't say no to anyone that can sing like this. We just melt like butter. Nothing turns us on more than a smooth talking country singing rough and tough cowboy with that sweet teddy bear heart. Lol seriously. Men could land any woman of his dreams if he had the qualities. Heck even if he couldn't sing then he could go further with turning the radio on and grabbing her hand and pulling her close to dance with her. Your never to old to show your love and romance her with a dance or two every once in a while.

Chris is someone who is underrated in today's country scene. He's been around the industry as a songwriter for a long time and wrote some of the biggest hits for some of country's biggest stars (George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, etc). He blew up in 2015 after finally releasing his own album and has continued to ascend. His voice is gnarly (as you know) and has a lot of blues, rock and outlaw country influences in his music. I've seen him perform twice and his live performances are even better than his recorded lol. Such a humble guy that simply loves making music with a guitar in his hands. Great reaction gents.

SOOO TRUE! In religion, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity all share roots (tracing back to Abraham). In music, rock, blues, and country are much the same, it's just that they all intermingle far more comfortably. In fact, if you go back to around the 1940s, "rhythm and blues" (drawing from blues, jazz, and gospel, and eventually evolving into current R&B) was becoming increasingly popular, as was a more stylized form of folk and country singing (think Hank Williams, Sr., Roy Acuff, or Lefty Frizzell). By the 1950s, parts of each of these were alive and well in rock and roll, like Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, and Fats Domino -- and crossovers and similarities still occur in amazing frequency as the genres continue to borrow from one another. But yes, I think Chris Stapleton is very much an R&B singer with a southern accent and a penchant for singing storytelling songs that you'd expect in country.

@@tupelohoney622 The lyrics are recorded over instrumentals inspired by and sampled from the song "I'd Rather Go Blind," by Etta James, a blues queen. The lyrics of this song are undoubtedly country, written for David Allen Coe in 1981, however this particular version has a blues track behind it, so it is neither straight up country nor straight up blues. It is both. The original and George Jones's version are strictly country.

This particular brand of country is a mix of blues rock with a Southern twang...you're a bit spoiled by starting with Chris Stapleton as your lead in to country, as he's insanely talented and his music is a great mix of styles...if you want to dive deeper, you can get into some George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, Chris LeDoux, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and I could keep going on...I'd be more than happy to put a playlist together of some classic country songs, including some of the best female country artists of all time as well, and you could just go down the line and react to them individually...

ENY Chica Etta James sang Id rather go blind she didnt write the music to it. , the music of these to songs are very similar. Tennessee Whiskey is an old country song. I dont think hes been sued so im sure hes received permission to use both songs and put them together to make a great cover song. Its a shame this is how he got famous. Hes written for other people and has other great songs that should be out there as much as this one is.
