The song is Kool and the gang- "summer madness". It's been sampled to death since the 90s.

Yes I lived in Philly for 4 years. The Italian Market where he's jogging through was my neighborhood. I used to run up the Schuylkill River, ending at the art museum stairs. It's a great feeling.

Part 2 is for me the best movie of all time believe it or not. That 2 hour build up for that great ending...No other movie still gives me that spiritual chill 40 years later.

All the outdoor scenes were shot in Philadelphia. The indoor scenes were shot in LA. In the scene where Rocky and Adrian were in Rocky's apartment, Talia Shire (Adrian) had the flu. The "bum from the dark" was Sylvester Stallone's brother Frank Jr. Sylvester's dad was the bell ringer during the fight with Apollo. The dog Butkus was actually Sylvester Stallone's dog in real life. Outside the window of the promoter's office was a painted backdrop. Because what was really outside the window was a brick wall. The ice skating rink was supposed to have a lot more extras, but they could afford to only have one.

I wanted to compliment you as the first reactor who had the same reaction to Mickey that I did. I've watched over a dozen reactors watch this movie. Can't tell you how many would say something like this: "Oh gee! Mickey's so mean! Oh shut up!" Like get real. He's a freaking trainer and, you find out in the movie why he was disappointed in Rocky. Sure, he took advantage of Rocky's opportunity, but they trained hard and he wanted Rocky to do as well as he possibly could. You'll see more of this relationship later, but I was so happy that you realized he'd be a kick-a** guy to have in your corner.

Mickey was also a former boxer who experienced some of the dark and dirty sides of the "fight game". Try to visualize him at Rocky's age..

Rocky is my #1 favorite movie of all time!!! And with the amount of movies I've seen and the importance movies have played in my life, that is really saying something! The dog, Butkus, was Sylvester Stallone's actual dog. At one point in his life Stallone was so broke he couldn't afford to take care of him and sold him. When he finally got some money after selling his script for Rocky, he tracked the guy down he sold the dog to and bought him back. The two turtles, Cuff and Link, are still alive and Stallone has them to this day! This movie was nominated for a ton of Oscars. It won for best picture and John G. Avildsen won for best director. Stallone, Shire, Burt Young, and Burgess Meredith were all nominated for either best lead actor or best supporting actor. Stallone was also nominated for best writer. Burgess Meredith was a long time journeyman actor. His most famous movie after the Rocky movies is probably The Story of G.I.Joe, a movie that came out in the 40's and I've never seen it. After the role of Mickey, Meredith is probably most famous for some TV roles he's played. He was The Penguin in numerous episodes of the Adam West Batman series and he also starred in several episodes of The Twilight Zone, one of the episodes where he played a man with very thick glasses and loves to read is usually always ranked in the top and most famous episodes of the series. Apollo Creed was "inspired" by Muhammad Ali, whose name was Cassius Clay before he converted to Islam and changed it. While Rocky II is not better than Rocky, it's surprising how close it actually comes. It's the second half of Rocky's story began in the first movie. It's another great film! When you get to Rocky III and IV...well those are movies, not films. Very very fun movies though!!! You just need to pretend that for just these two movies Rocky's continuity changed from a realistic universe to almost a comic-book-like fantastic universe to tell these particular chapters of Rocky's story. I really do love III and IV, but if you don't consider them "Super" Rocky movies as compared to all the rest being "Real" Rocky films, the change in tone could be jarring and suspension of disbelief will be challenged. Accept them for what they are and you will have a very fun time! Also, Rocky V is the weakest film in the series. Go in with low expectations. I still think it's important though to watch if you are watching the entire series. John G. Avildsen also directed The Karate Kid movies, and Bill Conti who composed the score for Rocky and most of the sequels also composed the score for the Karate Kid movies. When Stallone was filming Rocky IV, Conti was committed to scoring The Karate Kid, Part II, so that was one of the few Rocky movies he didn't score. Stallone got synth music composer Vince DiCola to score that movie and it has a very unique sound that I quite like, though not in the same league as Conti's scores. For one movie though it's an interesting change. You may want to watch at least the first Karate Kid movie. I would say it has a definite "Rocky" feel to it. Another John G. Avildsen movie, Lean On Me, starring Morgan Freeman is another movie I highly, highly recommend!!! I am so glad you liked this film! This film and this series has special meaning to me and I cherish them!!! Best Regards!

Star Wars and Rocky were released 6 months apart and had the biggest impact on movies. Star Wars, obviously special effects. Rocky was the creation of the 'steady cam'. Before cameras were large and on rails or a cart. The steady cam made the run up the stairs possible and the close up shooting during the boxing match. The camera man who created it started a camera company. It is still with us today as when you watch sporting events with the weird angles, like the NFL overhead, that is his company.

Good reaction. Btw, this was the movie that created the 'Workout montage' with the inspirational music in movies. Before this movie, filmmakers didn't see it necessary to show the athletes working out since they thought it would bore the audience...lol. But Stallone changed all of that making sure that there was an inspirational work-out montage in the movie, the very first of its kind. Now pretty much every movie in this genre uses a similar montage.

This movie literally shaped my life...I know it sounds a little dramatic...right! Well I grew up with a father who was a Green Beret that was dealing with ptsd although he couldn't accept that it actually existed. He fell 80' off a mountain when I was 3 months old and wasn't expected to walk and he retired with full benefits. He did walk and today at the age of 68 still has 27 horses that he tends to. So where does this movie factor in? He did a movie called first blood about a Green Beret and became my favorite actor...then Rocky came out and as a kid I watched it so much that the vhs tape we had was worn out... fast forward to age 26 and a failed life. I decided to try a boxing match at a local club and lost but my performance had a few local trainers recruiting me to box. Couldn't box but mma was just starting so I gave it a shot....ended up 14-2 as an ammy and 6-2 as a pro. That success and believe in myself then translated into a job opportunity that saw me making more money than I could have ever imagined. 3 years later I got the opportunity to buy a company in the same field. I now own my own company for the last 5 years and have more than I could ever imagined. Rocky was the reason I thought I could do it! Lol My dad had a part but before that first boxing match I watched Rocky and it gave me the confidence to do it! Crazy but it really did. Rocky 4 is my fav. Jeremiah Jason Wood on sheepdog is my mma profile.

The weight difference would not have mattered as they are heavyweights. Back then i don't think there was a super heavyweight division but regardless i think the heavyweight division is open weights anyway.
@doesnotexist305
@doesnotexist305 3 жыл бұрын
Very true. With heavyweights you just gotta make the minimum. Today it’s 200 pounds. Back then the heavyweight minimum was 190. In fact Muhammad Ali usually fought pretty close to the 190 minimum in his prime. He usually came in at 192-194.

Sly's first success. 1. Actually Rocky doesn't qualify as a Heavy Weight. He doesn't weigh enough. I love Burgess Meredith A good first time/share is the original Clash of the Titans with him. A good First time/share for Stallone is Tango and Cash with Kurt Russell.

@Farmer_Dave 3 жыл бұрын
Why did you not watch this with your woman? If you cant get your woman to watch the Rocky Franchise as romantic and true as it is are you sure she is your Adrian? You will understand that by Rocky 3. And dont let her get on her feelings about a comment like this. I mean really what does a comment from someone you will never meet accually matter. Its the by Rocky 3 to understand what or maybe a part of what I mean. Rocky would be nothing but Adrian is his gift from God. Still she did not build him or make him. She supported him. There is a difference.
