1 of my dad’s favorite songs ever ❤ he played growing up at full blast, subwoofer in the couch, surround sound in the ceiling & now that he’s gone since 10/27 2009 (This month) 🥹 from a massive heart attack at age 50 few years before my 19th bday.. I can’t help but listen to it for him, all the time 🎉 he went through a lot of pain in his life & thing song hits my heart sooo hard❤ I love you, Dad 🛐 R.I.P. Thank you for showing me all of the best music growing up, every genre, you were the best man I’ve ever met. I wish you could see your grandson grow up! Other musicians played a key role as well, sure it was a Watered-down Pink Floyd band project but man that album is it up there with that bands' greats if you put it against that catalogue! Amused to Death is just spectacular.

Back in the days when listening to a song also meant understanding the lyrics and what the writer was trying to say. I miss those days. I have the CD, still remember about QSound, and I quote “To hear the QSoundTM effect you must be positioned centrally between the two speakers. If the dog barking at the beginning of the record doesn’t sound like he’s in the yard next door then your speakers are out of phase.” By Gods grace, hopefully, I leave back the CD collection for my son to understand how meaningful music was in the last century.

Waters and Gilmour worked well together as they both did what the other couldn't do. Waters is no musician but he is an amazing lyric writter and Inventer of musical concepts e.g who'd think of building a wall between the band and the audience where as Gilmour by his own admission struggles with lyric writting but is an amazing musician and to my ears has a slightly better singing voice but not by much.
@billyf29434 жыл бұрын

@JohnnyPaton3 жыл бұрын
I think once you become a real fan of Pink Floyd it becomes apparent that the real Floyd existed between 1969 and 1973. By Wish You Were Here they were already fragmented and Animals was brilliant but not representative of a true band. The Wall and Final Cut were Waters solo stuff in all but name as was AMLOR to Gilmour. Imagine they had stopped at Animals???? They’d be even more legendary than they are now.
@lapelcelery423 жыл бұрын
@@Fcutdlady I'm totally with you on almost everything, except "Waters is no musician". He wrote a huge amount of the Floyd canon on his own, and played bass (though Gilmour played on a lot of the Wall, and a couple of other songs), and synthesiser on almost every track during the 70s, as well as electric and acoustic on a few more. He's certainly not a soloist, but his additions make a huge difference - a massive part of the raw sound of Animals comes from his electric rhythm guitar on Sheep and Pigs for example (particularly noticeable as it's not there on Dogs). He ay not be the virtuosic musician that Rick or Davis were in the band at the time, but few are, and his contributions are vastly undervalued in their shadow.

Roger has always included the "sounds of life" in his music-eg. cars going by, birds singing, thunder, spoken words, feet walking on pavement etc which gives the music..... a..... third dimension if u like. It adds texture and immerses one deeper into the song-it also inspires mental imagery that mixes with the emotion he evokes so well. My fave artist of all time.

I have a strong suspicion that this song is a bit of an allegory of how he lost his second wife, engaging in wish fulfillment (a metaphor for one's mission in life) and suffering the consequences. This song doesn't really fit in with the overall concept of Amused to Death, but it's so good that it doesn't matter. Roger Waters is a true artist.

A lot of people don't know this, and some do, but this album is loaded with subtext and background imagery that sets up the tones. In this song, on the album (not this edited version) there is a background confession of a woman (possibly from South Africa) who confesses to killing her children in a failed attempt of a family suicide which included herself. Due to extreme economic hardship.
