A actor who acted as a Death Trooper actually said that they had sticky grenades they could launch from their rifles. One of them hit Baze, and he suicide charged the Death Troopers, killing them.

jpowell180 the Tie fighter scene was cut for a very good reason: it was meant to be blown out of the sky by an x-wing, but they'd already done that same thing with the AT-AT. So they changed it.

That's what the film makers were saying. That it was just a VFX test shot. But I don't buy that for a second. I think they were pressued to cut it so they just used that as an excuse.

Yeah, but I think they missed a trick with the rebel soldiers. If they had Vader frying everyone on the ship with force lightning, then that would have had everyone on the internet going nuts and arguing over whether or not Vader can use force lighting. Best publicity these days is when the internet goes into meltdown ;)

Nah. That would have killed the impact and glory they had with their respective deaths. It's obvious none of them could have done anything against Vader, so it's kinda pointless to write a scene whose outcome would be pretty much the same as the one we got (Vader killing random rebel soldiers and the survivors escaping with the plans).

I personally would've had the scene play out where Bodhi dies first (being a traitor), followed by K-2SO crushed by the force, followed by a blaster bolt that Baze shoots being redirected and hitting Chirrut. Baze has his gun cut and is stabbed, falling next to Chirrut, who is still barely alive. Cassian, already weakened, barely has enough time to give the plans to Jyn before he is cut down. Jyn, cornered, is about to be slain when Vader turns around to see Chirrut's staff coming for his head. Vader blocks but realizes his saber can't cut through it as the staff is imbued with Chirrut's connnection to the Force. The two duel and Chirrut sacrifices himself to let Jyn get away with the plans.

Rishabh Raj Then Jyn gets a Saber thrown at her as soon as she transmits those plans.

Especially the way he says 'POWER'!

I totally agree, that was a great line. Made you feel like Krennic had some balls, and was a fearsome enemy. And while he might've technically been that in the finished product, I felt like they portrayed him as a bit of a guy who didn't really have control over his surroundings, like a second-rate villain. Total waste of the character, not to mention Ben Mendelsohn's talent.

I would hardly say Krennic was a waste. I actually think him being second-rate is the point of his character. He's a genius architect, a very old and powerful official of the Empire, but he can also be a little bitch and somewhat pathetic at times. Mendlsohn really sells his character, and oddly enough, you kind of feel a slither of sympathy for him. How would you feel if years and years of your work was stripped away from you and put into the hands of a person who just thought of the idea without doing any of the actual work the second it was actually completed? He got REALLY fucked over here. And it's so poetic that he is killed by the same weapon he spent so long making, trying to get, and dedicating himself too. If he had some serious balls he'd remind us too much about the past Siths or even Tarkin in the franchise.

For me, I think Rogue One is the "grand epilogue" for SW:Rebels' storyline and Jyn's death in Scarif is the great divide between the Prequel era (1, 2, CW, 3, Rebels) and the Original Trilogy era (4, 5, 6, Aftermath novels). Technically the scene where Vader butchers rebel troops and the Tantive IV's escape is the prologue to Episode 4.

+Chris Wright It is interesting that Disney chose to continue the saga yet chose to also set up new protagonists, which obviously was disheartening to those who wanted more Leia, Luke and Han (ie ALL of us). I was therefore surprised that having set these new characters up they now choose to have an entirely new trilogy unconnected to the Skywalker saga so it seems it will conclude/jettison the new characters. Having said that; I really enjoyed TFA and TLJ - loved 'Empire' Yoda's appearance in the latter!

I feel they should have just advanced the timeline 100 years, and set the new saga long after the heroes of the Rebellion have already aged and died. Then they wouldn't have to perform character assassination on all the characters we know and love, and wouldn't need to show them acting in ways that don't make sense, given what we know of them.

(Yes, Jyn's dad worked for the empire, but he secretly worked against them, and Jyn isn't part of the empire, so any argument about it will be invalid). That *would* be a 'Romeo and Juliet' scenario for a male and female lead. But since Cassien and Jyn are rebels (sort of on Jyn in the first half)there are *NOT* a Star Wars version of Romeo and Juliet! Not my favorite Star Wars film but still a good piece of work. I think The Force Awakens was good but it felt incomplete and the plot seemed to meander a bit (I assume its because its one part of three and we need to see at least the second part to 'get it'). At least Jar Jar wasn't the captain of some ship or wasn't part of the infiltration squad. That would have RUINED it.

Best of the Disney franchise by far.

It was a callback to period war films, which was very deftly done. It recreated the era of the original films in some ways (such as making the matte in the opening scenes look like a c.1980 cinema matte painting) and in other ways built itself as a Star Wars film from first principles, drawing on pre-Star Wars source material the way Star Wars drew on Japanese cinema. It was really a masterpiece on many levels.

Yeah, I made the same mistake before. The problem is it's such a memorable line (at least for me), and when I think of obtaining death star plans, which this was about, you think of the 1st death star but that line.

Although Aliens was trimmed primarily for running time: they could get an extra screening per day with the 20 mins shaved off. But the theatrical version IS better. The extended version has the awful scene in the Jordens' rover, and while I like the sentry guns sequence it has some filler effects shots.

If she's got a good explanation that's one thing, but if a thief steals because he like doing it then he's going to steal from you, too. I learned this growing up in Berkeley and being told not to walk across an intersection on a red light. I asked, "what about being rebels?" as I too had been indoctrinated with that conception of Berkeley protests in the 1970s. I was informed that they were protesting illegal actions taken by the president and military - they were the lawbreakers, not the citizens of Berkeley. It was so true that I could use a fake ID anywhere but Berkeley (they'd just look at it, look at me, and say no). I could go to any club, buy beer, etc, except in my home town. They are the real conservatives, this branding as "liberal" by the right wing is absurd. I also learned that if someone bullies your "enemies" and you take him into your circle he'll start bullying you. Someone who "cheats" in a relationship with someone awful is fairly likely to do it again with someone great. The list goes on. Exceptions are made for people forced into "criminal" behavior such as stealing food to eat and feed their families when they've been disenfranchised from earning a living (as long as they're not taking from others in the same boat); or fleeing the crime scene when you had nothing to do with it but you'll be racially profiled and arrested anyway (or held for questioning) and miss work so lose your job.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like the movie myself but there were certainly elements that could be greatly improved...

If that was the original ending of the movie, it's quite possible that the change to how the plans got off the planet were entirely to allow for the Vader sequence leading up to the launch of the Tantive IV

She is already one of the most powerful characters in star wars without any training. TFA took the excellent story from "A New Hope" and butchers it with rubbish characters!

Try the trailer for Predators. There's a shot where a character gets lit up by a whole bunch of predator shoulder cannon targeting lasers, suggesting the characters are being hunted by a large group of Predators. In the film? It's one targeting laser. There's like 3 predators total in the film, and the character gets out of that situation of being targeted without a scratch.

HanM People borrowing elements or ideas from one another is quite different from straight up ripping off someone else's scene.

It could have just been pure coincidence but either way, Starwars influenced most superificial sci fi movies out there today, and Oblivion is really nothing special anyway, its visually a nice looking movie but its really just your average generic vehicle movie for Tom Cruise more than anything else.

In fact aspects of episode 1 & 2 were preferable - like a coherent and original story.

Right, me personally I'm not too picky about the prequels. ROTS was good but is one of those kinda flicks I'll have to wait and forget to enjoy all over again. TPM had Liam Neeson at least and the final lightsaber battle was pretty solid and AOTC had the late great Christopher Lee and few other small highlights to save it, but yea over all at least they had consistent story line.

Nah... it's a good marketing shot, but would have looked really out of place in the film. I think it worked really well. (But then again, I was actively trying to avoid the trailers anyway.

The reason they changed it was because it was similar to when they destroyed the AT-AT by an X-Wing swooping down and that was the same fate for the TIE fighter so they didn't want a repeat shot close together. Can't remember who said it, could've been Gareth Edwards but it was someone high up from the movie.
