Good now Rolex is not trading more than retail. We wouldn’t see flippers! Good news for watch collectors!

I really like the commentary on the economy and I actually feel it's very relevant to the discussion. I'm not a watch collector or anything...All I want is my Rolex Submariner (No date). I registered with an AD 2 months ago, and I'm hoping that this cooling of world wide demand will result in me getting my Submariner sooner than later.

Flippers are gone... but the ADs havent gotten easier.... nor has it stopped July 2022 watches being listed on the grey market... Almost as if watches are going from ADs to grey dealers without flipper involvement 🤔

It's only necessary to see what is happening to economies all over the World to realise that things will get a lot worse before they get better. There is no quick QE fix this time. I bought several Rolex from an AD last year and turned down one. So far this year I have been offered one and turned it down. I have only bought the watches I wanted in good times and bad. I'm keeping $35K in my back pocket. I expect to get offers I want as watches fail to sell. I've been around the inflation block before. I'd advise all to trim your monthly expenditures now by as much as possible (at least by the rate of inflation in your country) so that you don't end up in trouble and have to sell your beloved watches. In times like these a dealer will smell your need and you will be slaughtered!! 😉

ADs will carry on selling part of their stock in bulk to grey dealers because these are top clients for the ADs. The casual Rolex private buyer will come last on the list.

Picked up my DJ 41 blue after a 6 month wait and we just picked up my wife's DJ 31 pink dial after over 9 months, it was her retirement gift. I'm on a list for the bluesy.

Interesting vid. This makes me feel better about having sold my AK and Explorer 39 mk2 a year ago. Just got bored of them. I would have taken the black dial Explorer 2, I think that might be my next Rolex.

I won't buy over MSRP unless it is a discontinued or sold out watch. And even then, I wouldn't spend over a grand more. There are too many great watches to do that.

The market is soft. I just bought 2 omega Schumacher (blue and yellow)… offered 12-15% off and both were accepted. And one was a fixed price. So my advice is to make an offer or wait at least 6 months.

These are high quality items made in factories. There is nothing scarce here. Rolex creates them and sells them at a healthy profit margin to dealers, which mark them up and also make a healthy margin on the retail price. To pay above retail is simply dumb outside of a rare version or meaningful to the buyer aspect. The helicopter money bros bought cars and watches. Track the 1.5T car market bubble collapse and you'll see the parallel in the USED watch market. They cant afford the fuel, or the payments and repo guys are overworked. This was due to auto loans being unregulated and dealers marking up the rates. No income verification. The ADs are also in serious trouble as their actions have damaged Rolex brand.

Rolex has traditionally been a reasonable long term hedge against inflation just by nature of it massive brand value. It’ll be interesting to see if that holds true as our government tries to invent a way to forestall the coming crisis that doesn’t involve any fiscal responsibility on their part…

Not doomed at all. This mild recession doesn’t affect the luxury watch collector demographics. Plenty of people lining up to buy Rolex at MSRP, any available inventory is instantly snatched up. I take any Rolex I can get calls on, just to wear and enjoy them, and still have duplicates in my safes for collection and back up. None will ever be flipped, just for my personal archive and enjoyment.

A r ecession cannot be measured in real time, a recession is measured in hindsight based on a variety of factors, NOT just two quarters of negative GDP. Economists will not be able to call a recession until late 2023 (last recession in 2008 was officially called in late 2009). Leave the politics out of it, my friend, it’s unbecoming - stick to watches 👍 ✌️
